And do you believe it would be difficult for Tencent to bump their holding to 90% if they wanted to or if GGG did not listen to their guidance on the game's development?

Just offer a premium on the shares and remaining holders will accept with open arms.

Yes. Very difficult.

Chris owns over 13%.

If Chris and his team is willing to sell 80% what is keeping him from selling his personal shares (posibly under pressure of tencent). It's not like we have (or deserve) a say in the matter, but please live responsibly and don't add to mega corps.

Power corrupts and corruption empowers.
I really don't like when publishers buy the game companies. Especially not Chinese publishers, who are basically economic figureheads of the ruling 'party'. Well. Hopefully PoE dies before the next 'head of the party' obtains power, and commences a 'purge of corruption'...that sounds like a cool vaal skill. Why is Vaal Purity not called Purge of Corruption?

But...Tencent seems pretty content to simply leech income rather than meddle with successful companies. Still. I don't like it.

Actually, in principle, gamers - ie. the people paying for the game - are the ultimate people to decide a say in the matter. If you piss your consumers off, you will go the way of the American comics industry.

I think it's O.K. to be concerned with it. The way the gaming landscape is and how other companies have suffered for this same sort of thing... its only natural to be nervous. I personally am only concerned with where my money is going. If its going to GGG then Im good. Ill keep buying Supporter packs if this money gets pooled and gets divided among their other games, then I wont.

Im just happy it wasn't EA. Then id be saying "Its been nice knowing you".

Well guess you don't need to sell Supporter packs anymore, and I probably won't be buying any.

We can all pray this turns out okay like Digital Extremes and Warframe, but then again they were bought by a Chinese agricultural company (who actually kept their promise of non-interference) not Tencent.

Warframe? Warframe is pay to win game, if you did not notice, that is not something I would classify as "ok"

Just going to straight up say you're a moron for calling Warframe a pay to win game. Everything in Warframe that is sold for platinum is farm-able and obtainable through normal game play as well as cash currency being obtainable EASILY just being a free to play player, and just playing the game. Anything sold on their website is obtainable besides "exclusive cosmetics" which have no impact on game-play just appearance but you obviously never played the game and are just spouting non-sense. Digital Extremes is a perfect example of a free to play game and PoE turning out like them would be a god sent improvement being able to earn MTX by playing and being able to trade it with players for desired MTX you wanted or for MTX points those players already own to use in POE's MTX shop. All while continuing league packs with exclusive cosmetics and MTX points, and every expansion releasing new MTX obtainable in-game and through their MTX shop. It would be perfect.. but will never happen because Chinese companies owning games is the worse mistake which causes most games they buy out from other regions to crash and burn.

It's also kind of obvious when a Chinese company purchases majority stakes and in this case 80% of the shares at that, they have full control over development and as soon as people stop wanting to support a Chinese company and don't buy supporter packs anymore it will be Path of Exile's downfall and annihilation, because honestly GGG made this game... why would we want a huge majority of our money going to tencent... and not to GGG.

Just check NZ Companies register it tells you everything you need to know.

This may not be a complete list of historic shareholders for this company. Every company is required to maintain its own share register that records the company's shares and shareholder details. To obtain a complete list of historic shareholders please contact the company directly

Tencent

Well, guess Abyssal was the last Supporter pack I bought.
Thanks for saving me money, GGG.

edit: nvm idk - sounds supa sketch! hope ggg stays on the right PATH (of exile).

skeet

You do realize that GGG is being very modest when they say tencent is one of the biggest game companies right? They literally have majority holdings in every huge gaming company. They are literally the THE biggest gaming company in the world. What makes it sketch? Just because it's a China company?
It's a shame to see every independent dev get absorbed into these massive companies, but at the same time it makes their future far more stable.

I wouldn't get too worried.

You mean selling to Disney and now making billions?

We are not Entitled to anything, you supported the game, if you don't want to keep supporting the game then don't. But we the players don't have a say in what this business does at all with the money they have gotten.. We paid for content, they gave us content.
