Tencent has Invested in Grinding Gear Games
Hmmm... feels like jumping out of the window of a skyscraper... thinking with every passing window: 'Went fine until here.'
Let's hope, Tencent keeps the game core as it is. I could even live with it, if they botched up PoE for the Chinese market... as long as the rest stays fine. ...but I am a little sceptical. " Let's hope it stays that way. |

ok, so.... all of you people that say that you were only buying supporter packs because you were supporting an indie company, bad news. GGG stopped being an indie company long ago. so in essence, for the past few years, you have not been supporting an indie company.
also, as far as you all saying your financial support ends now, because you think the game will become a p2w game now, there is a small problem with that as well. tencent bought into GGG to make money, plain and simple. they are a business, they want to make money, that is what businesses do. if so many people stop buying supporter packs, tencent will undoubtedly lose money. this will eventually force them to do exactly what we dont want them to do in order to make up for the money lost. they WILL then begin to make the game p2w. this then will be he players' fault. oh. and i absolutely know what i am talking about as i have a masters degree in business Last edited by juidshui#1331 on May 24, 2018, 8:58:49 AM

i have played this game for along time now off and on. With Tencent Chinese overlords buying the company i will no longer play it. Every time a company like GGG sells majority stake its a major trend to shit fest , i will not ride this on its final circle down the drain

To many posts in disagreement are about Tencent and money. But folks, it should be about Tencent and what they support - the government they support. Direct your attention to Sesame Credits and how they are running a social credit scheme for China's government. Doesn't this show us how easy it is for a company like GGG to shift its moral compass with the flash of cash? That is what makes me sick about this deal. I don't give two craps about why GGG sold its shares, hell, its what makes businesses grow! If it was anyone else I wouldn't have cared, but Tencent is a morally corrupt company using their money to usher in an Orwellian world. Over-dramatic? It's already happening - look up Sesame Credit, look at Tencents' role, look at how China is demanding it be mandatory by 2020 and tell me if that's where you want your money to go. How appropriate that they mask their money in games because video games draws our attention from real problems. As long as we're entertained, we'll be blind and not question what that money supports. I just can't overlook that crap. I'll play because I love this game, but I will no longer spend another nickle on it.

Guys,
GGG is doing goooood and will always try and be the best.. the verrrry best (pokemon) I dont really think that when someone invest in something, in anything for that matter it expects it to change and be something that isnt that product (authenticity is worth a lot). (I learned that from sharktank :D:D:D) So I have full trust in God Chris and the whole GGG staff to keep doing what they are doing and keep up the good stuff! So GG for GGG for a more secure future for GGG peace out p.s. I will keep supporting my favorite game and I dont give a shit about tencent taking a cut. |

" by what metric did you consider them a non-independent company? " That's some very interesting mental gymnastics. The players didn't tell Chris to sell his company. Not our fault or responsibility to satiate the profit yield expectations of an investor. If neither Chris or Tencent took into account any potential financial backlash from this deal then they both deserve to lose money on it. People talk as if PoE going downhill and becoming 'ruined by Tencent' is all bad. I'd hope it would serve as an example the next time a company like GGG grows from a niche community and finds themselves with this decision. I'm not an addict who is willing to pay and pay and pay out of fear of a game I like being ruined by a profit-driven publisher. If they want $10 from you today; they'll want $12 tomorrow and $15 the next day and $20 the day after... At any point that trend breaks you'll be facing the troubles you predict. I'd rather get out now. (I already stopped supporting GGG with all of their lootbox BS and 'trickle-out' MTX from Bestiary - purely indicative of the very crap that makes them attractive to companies like Tencent in the first place). " Multinational conglomerates do not support any government. They only support themselfes and a "free market". Free to sell you the air you need to breathe. Of course, they make deals with them, if that's of any benefit. Last edited by dyneol#3245 on May 24, 2018, 12:12:17 PM
