Tencent has Invested in Grinding Gear Games

it is not GGG i dont trust

As to why do you sell 80% of your company? Because you are looking for a large cashflow to continue to improve the game and develop the next game at a AAA standard. If you wanted a payday you sell the whole thing and retire. If you're passionate about your development you obtain what you need to see it grow and retain a proportion because you have faith in your vision.

I just can say what the only reason is i'd sell out my company shares at 80%. That would be if i wanna retire from what i am doing right now. And please, you dont really think any of the accuired now private wealth would really go into a new game? there is way more different ways to fund a new game tbh. And tbh selling 80% is basicly the same as selling all of it, wouldn't you agree?

So if you bought a $100 pack Tencent gets $16 while PoE itself gets $80 to continue to operate.
Which is $16 more than I want to give to Tencent.

all i know is i have bought supporter packs and points to support the game, not GGG. as long as the game stays basically the same, i will gladly continue to do so, but if it changes too much i will have to pull out completely

The only real change from bringing on investors is the ability to access large amounts of financial support to improve the game beyond the current means and develop new products. Why is that bad?

They are NOT investors. Tencent is the new OWNER of GGG.

So why should I continue to purchase your supporter packs anymore when you guys are funded by a multi-billion dollar company? What the fuck is the point?

What was the point in the first place? You supported the game... which was and still is completely free to play. That's what being a supporter means, you're supporting the F2P model of the game which we hold in high regard.

Are you saying that you'll continue to play the game and enjoy it but not support PoE financially simply because a proportion of the profits now go to another entity?

I'll make this simple for you:

Tencent ===> resources (read:money) ===> GGG

Players ===> money ===> Tencent ---> crumbs for GGG

They no longer need OUR support to run their business, so what exactly are we supporting by throwing money at GGG? Short answer, nothing but people like me who've spent far less money on PoE than what a lump sum or monthly subscription would've been.

But hey, if you want to keep throwing money at Tencent so that I can keep playing an f2p PoE, go ahead. Just know that PoE's well-being no longer has a relation to how much money you decide to dish out; you're simply paying to let others keep having an f2p game to play. Tencent alone will more than make sure that PoE stays alive, with or without you.

Is that how you approach all your purchases? Do you know who ultimately owns all the companies you purchase from?

Suppose it isn't....does it matter?

He DOES know about the ultimate owner of this one (to the extent possible...) ...Isn't that good enough? Even if he approaches different purchases differently, he still has the power to vote by walking away with his money, right?

I actually agree its his total choice, but I find it interesting that because GGG was transparent and sent clear communication about the future plans, they are being held to the fire. Lesson here appears to be "Dont ask Dont tell"
The words "Majority stake" are only good when a dev company is completely under water. I'ma take this as a bad omen. They "claim" GGG will retain development freedom, but majority ownership tends to give people a god complex.
I barly write in this forum, but that news and that they selled 80% of their stake worries me. They basically selled the company. I wish you would be more transparent GGG and also told the community what the "majority" is (well at least the shareholdings are online visible) and why you decide this. There must be a big positive thing for the game or not? My assumption is that there is no big positive thing for the game, otherwise you had wrote about that.

For me it is just a matter of time, when Tencent will influence the game. With that in mind, I can not support the game anymore.

People would have found out, because people did find out something was happening before this was posted. Imagine how this would have gone down if they had tried to hide it.
