Tencent has Invested in Grinding Gear Games
I have to admit Tencent has a pretty bad reputation in China, domesticly. However, can anybody name a fucked game or app outside of China after acquired by tencent? Lol, Clash of clan, discord?
It is better for GGG to be owned by Tencent than EA or Activation based on historical record. The motion of Anti-China is purely fed by your one dimensional media which lead to irrational fear and hate. |

" Not a single part of me is mad at them for comfortably cashing in/out on their work. I'd have loved to see them take it above and beyond by their own means but alas I'm an outside perspective who doesn't have to deal with this vitriolic shit day in day out. There is assuredly more to life than pleasing people with or in a game. There might be something to pull out of all this in their design/ or a crowdsource backed design approach. It might well be to many heads at the table. I hope all of GGG retires comfortably if they so choose, they earned that at the very least. Man it sort of feels like the last game developer I trust just died though. Back to crawling indie projects I guess. Now presenting! Venom ink; malice in the pen, poison on the paper, anger in the mind.

I think what makes a lot of people upset isn’t necessarily the fact that GGG sold to Tencent in particular. I think it has a lot to do with people not liking the fact that an independent company is not independent anymore. I also think that even if GGG foresaw some kind of negative reactions around this they underestimated the value people hold to this. In the west we have seen a trend of this craving for locally produced, micro brewed, authentic stuff for quite some time now and I think the timing was bad for GGG to make this statement (and also to some extent how it was delivered/worded). I also think that Tencent being a huge global actor with some (possible) shady business back in China just added insult to injury.
I also think that the fact that Tencent bought 80% of GGG cements this even further. Selling out 49% would still have made people go ape$hit on the forums but at least the independent part would still have been true to some extent and the rage would have ebbed out faster. From my experience with backers stepping into a business and demanding such a huge majority of the shares often means they see the venture as a (small fish) high-risk project and they want to be able to take over the rudder if things aren’t turning out the way they like them to (aka the current business model isn’t producing as much profit as promised). If Tencent only wanted to get a nice return on their investment in a company that was bigger, and in their mind more stable, they would probably just have opted for a smaller share with zero need for operational veto. Those 80% are there for a reason and that reason might not always be in line with customer wants/needs. Just my ten cents :P |

I'm a chinese player. My english is not that fluent. You can believe i've spent all my effort to type all these word even if I can't express my own opinion clearly and exactly.I just feel disappointed and angry.
Tencent is a shameless GAME company.Actually,Tencent has a very strong capital that makes it enough to invest in all the game company, even EA or Blizzard. But,almost all the money is dirty. The core spirit of Tencent is "wei chuang xin",it means they just copy the core game mode from successful game company, like Nintendo, or frames of famous games, and then change the colour of characters'skin or add some new mod.A new Tencent game borns. No creativity, just copy. All these plagiarist behaviour is legal in China, I can understand the decision of GGG, because no one can resist the temptation of money. But I can't agree with GGG.I m afraid the affection from Tencent will ruin the game. It's really pathetic. Congratulation, you will get abundant amount of money, finally. |

Im sure that this will effect the game negatively in the long term.
You cant keep a straight face while telling me that youre equally invested into a company where you own the majority, or are practically an employee. Aside from my doubts of the motivational aspect, i also feel that this will lead to players purchasing less supporter packs. GGG has always had this "small indie game company" vibe, where you feel like they personally cater to your problems. Tencent doesnt give me that feeling. TBH i dont really care about microtransactions all that much anyway. As long as POE stays free to play ill play it every odd season. |

It's their given right to sell to whoever they want.
That being said, I was so happy to play a game owned and developed by an INDEPENDENT company with amazing ethics. Happy to contribute as much as I could (even if it's not a lot). Now I'm not so sure. It was important for me to know my hard earned money was not going to some big corporation, but to Chris and his team. We'll see what happens. |

I really hope that with the money Tencent's gonna be investing, you guys can afford to put more work into improving the game's performance. As it is if you don't have the game installed on an SSD, then the loading screens take forever and town instances are a nightmare lagfest of half-rendered MTX effects. I would be totally fine with seeing less new content for awhile if it meant the existing content became more stable.
