How we Made PATH OF EXILE: ROYALE

My thoughts:
The game mode was excellent, however with the repetitive game style it could die off quite quickly if done as a stand alone.

I think it would be a much better approach to do the following:
-Run royale as a weekend event similar to how Destiny does trials of the nine.
-A set of gear will be created exclusive to the royale league (or multiple sets to support ev/es/armor)
-Similar to the harbinger gear there will be multiple pieces for each item in the set which you must combine to create the item.
-Winning a match guarantees you one piece at random, with an incredibly low chance of the also dropping from chests ingame so you do not necessarily need to win to collect the set, winning will just make it alot faster process.
-Create alt art items of already existing uniques; combining the pieces with a unique will change its artwork. Would be a good source of using pieces you have doubles of.


Balancing ideas:
-Split arrow is really only overpowered due to the multiple projectiles. I suggest for royale only, increasing the level requirement of split arrow to say 5-6, while at the same time largely increasing the drop rate of lesser multiple projectiles, and altering its mana multiplier to 100%. That way by the time level 5-6 comes around multiple skills can easily balance with SA.

Other ideas:
-If you are going to run it as standalone game on steam as you did this weekend, you reallllly need to fix the loot clutter issue. Anyone picking up the game to play on a weekend event will be immediately turned away by a screen full of items, as they will have no idea what a loot filter is just downloading the game on steam. I have a feeling this was overlooked, even by most players as using an item filter is just natural to us. Not so much to a newcomer.

Overall thumbs up on the game mode, I love pvp. To anyone who claims you cannot have a successful pvp campaign in an arpg, you really missed out on Diablo2. Pvp in that game was some of my funnest memories from gaming. I truly hope PoE eventually finds a way to offer this same level of enjoyment to the pvp experience, and Royale was a stride in the right direction.
I'd say bring it back in a every league towards the end and have it run for a weekend. I don't see it lasting too long if people play it all the time. It's a good gimmick in a small period of time.
MORE PLEASE. If it's always available it will get heavily min-maxed and abused, and regular players won't be able to enjoy it very much. To prevent that from happening as much as possible, it should have modifiers to the maps, mobs, skill gem drops, and loot drops. For the same reason, I would prefer to see it available infrequently - perhaps weekly or bi-weekly - rather than available every-day. What if it was 1 day a week, and each week the variables were randomised each time (somewhat like lab)?

Modifier examples e.g. "Single projectiles only"; "Projectiles move much slower than normal"; "Items have unusual stat requirements [ie. Str, Dex, and Int are swapped randomly]"; "All items are corrupted"; "Monsters are greatly enlarged and have onslaught"; "Melee attacks have 50% more attack speed, 50% less damage"; "Players spawn with a random curse"; "Every weapon is imbued with a random curse, applying that curse on hit"; "Shrines inhabit the land"; "The Island is significantly smaller than usual" etc. To keep it very interesting, multiple modifiers (e.g. 3) could be selected each week - so players can't immediately memorise the "best strat for modifier X", because other modifiers will mix things up and might make their practiced strategy redundant.

It also think that the Rhoa Dinner mtx was a great incentive - I think many players played it just to try and get that (not sure how this incentive could be re-created in future). It would also be excellent if this mode contributed to Leo XP.
Relly nice mod but I think it should be accessible limited time in a day/week.

Not really. I approve of making it a fun event that happens once in a blue moon but the core game is still gonna be what makes me come back long term. Battle royale doesn't do that.

I think you mean a legitimate test of rng if you got a good loot chest closer to you then anybody else, kill the 4 guys that got no loot/shit drops while proceeding to the middle and avoiding others asap to farm mob xp as much as you could before anybody else got there. if you got shit or no chests right by you die asap and relog and try the rng game again. most of the time that was the best way to win.

I didnt have any fun doing this event, but seeing that you plan on having some point in time again and balancing the skills might make it better at least.
