Supporting GGG and PoE, but not necessarily Bestiary Leaguespansion

Once again, this is not about the fact that we're going to capture and sacrifice them, animal cruelty or anything like that. It's about both the justification and the reason for doing it from the perspective of the ingame exiles, viewed through their personalities.

It just doesn't fit Ranger and Templar for example unless it has some sort of corruption cleansing as a background information. Which I doubt. They wouldn't accept doing that with any other justification. NEVER.

The other part is the reason why. We already enslaved and killed GODS, why would we bother with shamanistic rites if we could kill the beings we're calling upon? Unless of course, we can't (in the case of other eldritch beings like for example the first ones). The gods aren't omnipotent in PoE. So if we really call upon a force that surpasses EVERYTHING else, then I have no problem with it. If it's just some random half assed explanation, then it just won't cut it. It would make no sense.

I am choosing to see these animals as coworkers I am sacrificing to get to upper level management. Makes the whole thing more palatable.

Why are some of you getting it so easily and some not? I have trouble with accusations of trolling when it seems the people trolling are those going out of their way to miss the point. If NONE of you got it, I'd blame myself, but several of you are absolutely on the same page as me even if you don't necessarily agree (which is perfectly fine).

Is it just because you're used to my way of typing, so to speak?

As I mentioned earlier in the thread, I do understand that, and the characterization of some definitely feel off (I mentioned ranger and Karui, though I feel the Templar, who was once a soldier of God and part of Oriath's blackguards before being exiled, wouldn't take offense at this, cleansing 'the land of the damned' of beasts twisted by nightmare).

The witch, shadow, and duelist seem like the best proponents for this sort of menagerie.

I'm of the understanding that, like all prior league expansions, this will begin BEFORE we even understand Gods are returning to Wraeclast. In that case, would it be so odd for the exile to take an easy path to power through animal sacrifice the way the Ezomytes and Vaal did? We already use Vaal gems, capturing souls to fuel our power. Is that no crueler, no sadistic, than sacrificing an animal we've captured?

I understand the OP. And maybe I'm still missing the point, but I think the characterization of some exiles still fits the league.

The ranger, and arguably the marauder or templar would probably be appalled at this. But I think the rest wouldn't think twice about this opportunity. The scion might. The scion might be extremely vocal about her distaste and talk to herself for an hour about how wrong it is. But in the end, I think she'd still do it.

I *am* of Chinese descent, and I've eaten dog. After watching it be slaughtered in a pit for a village feast, of which we were guests of honour. It's second-rate meat, else we'd be farming dogs by now.

Out of curiosity, and without trying to derail, I'm a huge meat-lover. I joke that it is my candy whenever I turn down sweets. I often say I'd eat any animal as long as it's cooked.

What other kinds of meat have you had that are out of the norm?

Idk. I can see both sides of it, really. Sacrificing lesser creatures seems a bit off, especially after caging them. But it's well within the character of for several of the exiles, provided power is the reward. Even the exiles that might question it a bit would probably be able to draw justification from the notion that these tainted beasts can hardly be considered animals anymore, and caging and even sacrificing creatures whose wills and minds are so lost is not so unreasonable, especially if the power acquired from doing so helps them to restore the balance.

Now from a player perspective? Yeah, I've got a distaste for it. A quick death for hostile beasts when it's kill or be killed seems reasonable, caging and sacrificing them at your whim is far from mere survival tactics. And yet gaining power is part of survival as well... the lines blur. Maybe that's the intent.

Now for my part, how I'd sell the lore? I'd probably ditch the menagerie aspect of it completely (idk about you, but i don't give a **** about it), and change the lore of the 'capture' mechanic to more of a 'scavenge' or elder-scrolls-style 'soul trap' mechanic.

Either have the exile immediately gather a physical piece from the given beast than they can then use later at the altar (or lore-wise a new crafting bench), or have them trap a fragment of the beast's life energy that they can then use at this crafting bench/altar.

Hell, with the latter, there could even still be a menagerie mechanic... instead of keeping living animals caged up, some device could use the life energy to project an image of the beast it once was. Until you decide to use that energy at the altar, anyway.

And idk how the whole pit fight thing works, but operating under the assumption that you fight a beast or beasts before you can sacrifice them at the altar or whatever, the latter option again would work... when sacrificing the energy for power, you must fight an echo of the beast it once was before you can fully mold the energy into a new form.

Something like that? I think all the exiles would feel that's no less reasonable than any of the other actions they take.

IS SSF btw Bestiality league still gonna be an ethical league?

Peace,

Boem
I'm a forum warrior, i was born to post, raised to defend my league. Now my post has been removed, chained and exiled by mods who Ban. Ban is my brother; i do not fear it. I see it in the eyes of men and beasts that i troll. It will take me to play the actual game when i am ready and i am not ready.

Nahh.. GGG is free to play. What you're suggesting is definitely pay to play and certainly NSFW. :)

Cheers,
Matt.
There are 10 types of people. Those that know binary, and those that dont.
hi i totally agree with op. there were ways to to this without upseting anyone. instead of using the whole alive animal u should just use a trophy (once u launch a magical trap on beast that enhance it to revel the essence of his corruption u can take it - if u manage to kill the buffed beast - and use it on altar.
any combination of these essence of corruption can generate from void another creature with mods from original beast and on death drops the item u desire to craft. that way we can just farm for these essences or sources of corruption and keep them in inventory(this fits the style of ggg so later can sell a tab specially for these :p). But the ideea of this zoo is disturbing. already in real life we hear of how destructive is man and so many species are in danger and some zoo are sanctuary and fight to save some of them, i really dont see the point of doing it in game also and more to implant in the mind of chieldren the ideea that this is on any world a good thing. Please ggg rethink this ideea really u can do it is easy get rig of the zoo, this is just a game make it fun not morally debating, try least not to do towards bad ideea please remember that even in a video game many minds are touch by what they see think and do and can influence their growth.
this can be a great ideea, a great add to the game to expand the craft and use of elements of the poe universe but please remain in the spirit of old poe game and do not make this generation of poe exiles into the savage masters of the beasts that kind of power only leads to a ruin of civilization like vaal before it... or u planning an end to this world to launch poe 2??

A few examples

Frog isn't that much out of the norm but I was surprised how frequently it popped up on Guangzhou-rural area menus, basically just stir-fried or steamed and eaten like little chickens. Fiddly shit. Do not recommend.

There was also some sort of water snake I think. Less rubbery than crocodile (which is basically chickfishpork) so more like an eel, but less tender.

Amusingly, probably the most unusual meats I've had were here in Australia, not some otherwise inaccessible pockets of south China.

Kangaroo was reserved for pets for a while but it's pretty chic in Australian supermarkets nowadays. I find it tough and gamey but with the right sauce it can be okay. Roos are still considered a pest here so there's nothing unethical about consuming them outside of the usual quibbles against carnivorous inclinations.

The other animal on our national crest, the emu, is surprisingly tender and delicious. The few times I've had it I've been reminded of really good beef. It's not economically viable to farm for meat, though. Just not enough yield per beast.

I'm sure there's more but that's all I can remember right now. I don't go out of my way to eat weird things. These just found their way to me.

FTR I'd never eat cat. I've owned too many as pets and I figure they'd be super tough and bitter. Just like their personalities.

I want to stress: it's not the act of killing that strikes me as off. A few of you seemed to have missed that one. I fully acknowledge the Exile is a killer, even from the start. That Wraeclast takes their psychopathic tendencies and gives them full rein. Piety says as much to the Witch when they first meet in Axiom Prison. Most of the Exile dialogues reflect some form of monomania regarding strength and power over others. I am 100% on-board with the idea of the Exile killing to survive and to thrive. That's Wraeclast for you.

It's the 'not-killing' that I find out of character. The delayed killing. I keep trying to find other words for it that some of you might understand but 'cruel' is still the best one. It's one thing to be a hunter to survive or even an assassin to fill your purse or an arena fighter for the glory and the attention...and another altogether to methodically fill cages and enclosures with living things that have been proven to feel pain, that you intend to eventually kill. That takes a whole different mindset to the aforementioned murderous paths in life, and I'm still not convinced it's a mindset all of the Exile archetypes would embrace. Especially when it's exactly the sort of mindset embraced by those most corrupted by Wraeclast. Those we put down. Sometimes repeatedly.

That said, I've exhausted this topic and know it won't make a lick of difference. I'm disappointed in GGG, who have until now seemed to understand that methodical cruelty is real evil, even in somewhere as savage like Wraeclast, but they still get my cashmoney support so what do they care, really?

Huh. My mace dude is now an actual cultist of Chayula. That's kinda wild.
I love that GGG is still keeping their dark vibes in and wish they would go even more brutal. I absolutely miss games like Dungeon Keeper that were max to the top badass and brutal in every aspect, full of torture, gore and smacking slaves with your hand. I played these when I was fucking 10, didn't feel bothered even for a second which still remains the same. Unfortunately because of sensitive Sams, this vibe is fading out more and more.

And they could have done all of that without doing this. I didn't take you for a fool but I'm a bit worried I may have misread you on that one. Stop missing my point just to post asinine and largely irrelevant attacks. I am not a 'sensitive Sam'. And you damn well know it. You don't play PoE for 5 years or support it as I have if you're squeamish or dislike the darkest, goriest shit to ever hit an ARPG.
