Isn't the math wrong ?

The prob of getting hat in lets say 500 intervals is .9934% (1-.99^500) if you wanna convert it to hours you need to 1st * 5 since intervals are every 5 mins, and than / 60 so its 41.66 hours (1-.99^500)*5/60

No, their math is not wrong. Yes, your math is wrong.

its 1% chance to win so on average it should take 100 rolls = 500min = 8.33 hours

24 hours of watching streams without reward...
What do GGG mean by saying "average" ? So it means if I'm unlucky I won't be able to get it throughout the event even if I watched something like "average" 8 hours/day ?

Same here, nnow its like hazard. Wasted so much time, meybe one hour more.. :)
Great idea!

Does it count if I watch it on my iPad?
So I'm guessing (and I didn't bother to read 34 pages of comments, so if this has already been clarified elsewhere, apologies) this does not count for watching streamers host other streamers playing POE, correct? Since the stream you're watching must be tagged as "playing Path of Exile," and (from what I can tell) hosting someone doesn't change that streamer's "playing" designation.

In order to qualify for the d% rolls, you need to be logged into your Twtich account which has been linked to your POE account and watching a Twitch streamer directly who has set his (or her) "Playing..." setting to Path of Exile and also opted into the rewards thing as described in the original post.
