Scorching Ray Skill Gem Mechanics

What about Echo? does it work with Echo
I don't like it's mechanics

why have stages, incinerate already has that

I was expecting the skill to simply deal damage over time, not apply damage over time in short durations

and again, why fire and not another element

yeah sure I'll try it out, but the skill could have been better
Assuming these posts are correct about DoT and burn damage... here's a really really early tree of what could possibly be used. This is a really weird skill and I'm still confused on how we go about building it, life, low life, CI, hybrid? Also, what modifiers work with it? I feel Elementalist might be the best choice for this skill because of Beacon of Ruin.

Scorching Ray, Increased Burning Damage, Added Fire, Faster Casting, Fire Pen, Spell Totem.

Then a kick ass tree.

One would presume so, it scales with cast speed and has damage, so echo which effects both of those things should apply in this case.

We've already done that. See the earlier pages. Added anything won't work. Neither will Fire Pen. Use Elemental Focus and Controlled Destruction instead. Max damage will come from self-cast with Rapid Decay instead of Spell Totem, but of course going totems has the advantage of safety.

Totems may also have the benefit of being able to stack multiples of the -fire res debuffs from scorching ray! Lots of damage potential here.

I highly doubt they're going to allow you to stack resistance debuffs from the same type of source.
