Grimdawn vs poe ? ( tying to find " tha game " )

My annoyance with Grim Dawn is because there isn't truly as much randomness to the grinding which makes it grow a little boring faster than PoE, it has some Diablo 3 infection like auto-coin pickup, not needing to identify items, and a ludicrous amount of inventory space. You'll also probably never fill in more than 2-3 skills on a skill tree that you actually use since the rest go to passives and those abilities destroy everything anyway

But what it does do correctly: Good feelings of progression, SERVER LISTS, available offline, and overall it feels like a game made by someone who just wants to freaking play a game.
Both are amazing games, depends on my mood which one I'll prefer on the day.

Both have their issues and strengths, and both are far better than any other current ARPG's.

Grimdawn is nowhere near PoE in anything - complexity, endgame, loot, grind, possibilities, skills, etc. etc. But it's still great ARPH, probably even #2 ARPG after Path of Exile.

And then there are people like me who think the opposite. I'd rate Grim Dawn above PoE in all those.

You should check out the Grim Dawn Game Guide.

My top 3 ARPG's are Sacred, Grim Dawn and Titan Quest.

problem with Grim Dawn is lack of secure multiplayer, but if you play solo or with friends this is not an issue

Hi all if anyone has played grimdawn did you like it ?

I really like poe in general but honestly the last death of my highest leveled character killed the game for me with the latest double xp nerfing patches . I have grinded and grinded so much in this game .

What i am sick and tired of in poe is :

1. loot never is good ( maybe i find a good item in a year playtime or so ) , i wanna be able to find stuff for myself in a reasonable time invested into the game . Though i like trading but when the game's items is so much designed into trading in mind and this affect the drop rates of fun items , this is imo not very good or/and fun design . I mean farming dried lake for alteration orb is not very interesting to me . I am not taking about the droprates of d3 because that is just too easy and casual but in poe it is simply not fun for me anymore . Poe atm just reminds me of d3 ah time years ago ( didn't like it ) . Poe atm farm for orbs to buy a good item for each itemslot , save up for 1 itemslot and then save up for the next itemslot . This is exactly the same game as d3 vanilla was when it comes to items . I completely get it for the " hardcore players " that like it this way but for me this is simply too slow . When i play a game i wanna be able to play/try most builds the game can offer me , this is something poe cant do for me ( too expensive and you dont find anything yourself ).

2. 1 shots mechanics . I get it the best players like it this way , for me it is not fun . I build my characters defensively , doesnt matter , boom you're dead anyway .

3. xp . this is a big annoyance imo , the nerfing of xp . I had plans to level my main hero to 100 , but i have given up on this ( my friends never though that i was to give this up but ...) . For those that say the game ends at level 90 , for me it doesn't its that simple . I wanna build a kick ass hero = level 100 imo . Maybe its because i am a completionist in games ( min - max ) . a level 90 hero is imo a unfinsihed build . People have different opinions of this and that's fine . The xp on death is also something i dont like , its just too much on a high level hero , its probably like 20-30 % or so compared to before on a high level hero ( too extreme for me to find this fun and reasonable ) .

4. the crafting . I dont even wanna call it crafting but instead gambling and its too expensive imo to craft a cool item . Crafting is fun but when its so much rng like in poe , no thanks .

A coule of stuff i wonder about grim dawn :

1. how is the multiplayer game play ( 2 player is enough for the most part ) ?
2. How is the game performance ? ( i know its also a offline mode but when i wanna do a multiplayer game , is it a stable server for it ?
3. If i can play poe in a stable way ( for the most part ) how is grim dawn in comparisson . In general what i mean , if i can play poe with no problems can my pc most likely be able to play grim dawn ?
4. the combat : pretty important imo , how is it . I have seen videos and it looks a bit slower than poe .
5. the loot , is it higher chance to find fun items in grimdawn compared to poe ( lol most likely ).
6. trading , how does it work if it is any ? is it a ah for example ?
7. crafting ? is it made in a good way ? ( not too much rng )
8. compexity . I have seen videos and it looks to be almost like poe . Interesting skill tree with double classes , though the skill tree in poe is very good .

In general its also another game named : Wolcen that looks to be a really good game in the near future . Maybe even better than both poe and grimdawn , hard to say at this point , but it looks to be a potential contender for the goat arpg imo if its a serious game company .

thanks exiles , hope some of you know a bit to be helpful :)
have a nice day :)

1. I dont play ARPG for multiplayer, and dont recomend you to play for it either. If you want great multiplayer, play MMORPGs. Both GD and PoE offer poor multiplayer experience.
2. GD performance is a blast comparing to PoE. Even on my old PC GD runs smoothly, while PoE lags like hell even on my current PC. If you care about performance and dont have top-tier PC, dont play PoE.
3. See 2.
4. Indeed, GD combat is much slower. Player's movespeed is very limited, and movement skills can only charge you to enemy and have severe CD's. In GD, killing enemies takes some time, you cant oneshot mobs with 1 click screen-wide (unless you great over-level and over-gear them). Is it good or bad - it's up to you for decide. For me, GD's alower gameplay is better.
5. You have greater chances to find good items in GD, but in PoE, top-tier items are far more powerful.
6. GD was desighned to be played self-found, so there isnt any developed trading system. If you like to trade for your gear, choose PoE.
7. In GD, crafting is very poor. Crafting rares is the same RNG shit as chaos-spamming in PoE, and is just as unrewarding. Comparing to GD, PoE has real crafting, so if you like crafting, play PoE.
8. GD may look like a complex game for some. But compared to PoE, it's far, far simplier... And in both, meta builds blast others out easily... PoE has much more complexity than GD, i mean, the number of somewhat viable builds in GD is far less than in PoE. But that doesnt means you shouldnt try GD - its mechanics can be kinda different from PoE. And both have a system to customize your character - in GD, it's dual-class and devotion, in PoE, it's Ascendancy, talent tree and sockets in items.

I hope i clarified things for you.

I love Grim Dawn. Have made three characters that have hit level cap and geared them out over the years. Fun and fair mechanics all around.

IMO gameplay wise Grim Dawn is far superior, but POE's economy and persistent world vice lobby based multiplayer system are why i keep coming back for more PoE.

Grim Dawn lacks content and trading not to mention the competitive aspect in Grim Dawn is just non exsistent .

Grim Dawn certainly does not lack content and it is still not done updating or even adding more contents. Trading may seem lacking, but it uses the simple form of trading. As for the competitive aspect, Grim Dawn is meant to be an offline single player ARPG, so it obvious that it will be non existent.

A bit off topic here, I will always chuckle that there are good amount of criticism (be it negative/positive) of PoE from the Grim Dawn forum and vice versa. It is like you have to be married to one to feel special. lol
Sometimes you can take the game out of the garage but you can't take the garage out of the game.

I just can't stick with ARPGs that dont have dedicated servers. Which is why I didnt stick with torchlight or Titan Quest. It sounds like you want a POE SSF league where drops are vastly improved. Something I'd be interested in. Until then, trading is basically required.

I do want to try out Grimd Dawn and Victor Vran and Van Helsing but only when they are super cheap

Sorry, but Torchlight (2) is really, REALLY bad ARPG. It's incredibly simple, has very poor itemization (most stats on items are literally useless) and character customization, and it also lacks of content. It's just a simple indie game, that wont keep you for long, sorry. Only GD, and to certain extent, Sacred 2, can compete with PoE.

Why not both?

What i prefer over PoE in grim dawn is their item system tough.

If you want to farm something specific you can, since only certain mobs carry certain items, and the mobs always spawn in set areas.

GD is pretty fun for quite a while so give it a shot imo.
