Race Event Season One announced!

People with jobs/studies can really forget about competing in the new reward point ladder which sucks.

Also i think the rewards are way off. For example in 3 hour solo if you reach act 3 and get level 32-34, you will just get 7 meager points. Someone who is just facerolling western forest can get level 26 very easily and get 5 points. 26 level in western is attainable by top players in about 2 hours.

Now lets compare that level 32-34 winning 2 solo races and getting 14 points. The less skilled player will play 3 races up to level 26 and gain 15 points. So if the skilled player is doing 2/3 of the races and getting max reward level every time, the players who are just doing every race and getting a semi bad level will win in overall points.

So in the end this reward point ladder is just mostly measuring in how many races you can participate, it's not checking actual skill much at all. Even if you would do 50% of all the races and win them all, there is no chance of competing in the overall ladder.

/rant off

I really enjoy the schedule though, with lots of differential starting times there is a high chance to do 1 race every day at least. So just for fun and possibly demi sweeps :)

I like the system(even though it can be improved) and I'm a sheep.

You hate the system(even though it can be improved) and you are the greatest person ever.

If that's the only two possibilities, I'm gladly a sheep. However, I contend that you don't have to shit on everything to be the greatest person ever. I dislike the current trend in life where it's the cool thing to hate on everything. Seems like a rather horrid existence if you only find pleasure in hate.
Looks interesting, but how to do it with the lag we get playing from Australia ?

IMO these times are very biased against the US player base. Being on PST and working a normal 8-5 jobthere is only one race max a day I can play in and it starts at 9pm. If it's anything more than a 1-2h race this gets to be very late at night. This would be even worse for someone from the east coast where none of these times really work into the normal work day.

Nonetheless, thanks for all the effort that was put into this aspect of the game! It does look very exciting and can't wait to try one.
last question of mine related to race prices:

would you do the races if there were no prices at all, just the ladder and if not: why?

- Remove the 1st hillock kill reward. It overwhelmingly favors shadows (pretty sure they have a 99%+ 1st kill rate in cb races) and is a complete hit/crit diceroll as to which shadow actually gets the 1st kill, with next to no skill or thought involved on the players part. Replace it with 1st brutus, 1st merveil, 1st oversoul and 1st piety kills instead.

- Change top 20 death notifications to display with global/trade chat disabled and /dnd activated. This is useful information for top racers, yet theyre generally forced to go without since it currently requires enduring a sea of screen-obscuring spam to see it.

- Add an option for parties to disable the loot timer during races. Have it either be under the control of the party leader or require unanimous decision to disable. The timer breaks flow, acts as a useless timesink and feels out of place in a cooperative party- what was originally meant to be a boon for casual players becomes a bane for a focused group.

See you all at the races!

All this! Hillock reward for 2 points is just ridiculous shadow favouring.
And the loot timer disable is really needed as an option.

Also, to all the people who think it's OK for races to have no incentives whatsoever unless you're a no-life top-20 player, would you say the same thing about a poker tournament? Would you play a poker tournament with fake chips? No. Why not? Because it's not fun. Why? Because there's nothing at stake.

What happens when you play a fake-chip poker tournament anyway? People don't play the same way. Why not? Behavior changes when there is nothing at stake. What kind of behavior changes? People care less about their own survival and bet recklessly.

What kind of behavior changes will we see in an effectively reward-less PoE race structure? We'll see everybody outside of the top 20-40 players playing recklessly since they will never get a reward anyway. Then we'll see them never play another race again because playing recklessly is equivalent to a lack of engagement in the activity.

If the races have no rewards except for the top 2% of players, then only the top 2% of players will continue to play them.

Of all the expected QQ, this is the funniest.

First of all, poker tournaments are played with "fake chips" - although technically, they are physical chips you can hold in your hand, so they are actually "real chips". But they are fake in the sense they hold no cash value. You can't stop mid-tournament and cash out. You play until you lose or win. If you have to leave half way through the tournament but have the most chips in the room, you get exactly $0. If you pay to play in the tournament and don't show up, you get exactly $0.

...

As for who will play in a race that doesn't have prizes that YOU personally feel are insufficient... check any of the 100+ places you can play online poker for free. No money invested, no prizes given out. Just playing poker for the sake of playing. Almost as if it's a VIDEO GAME. HAHAHAHAHA I'd say right this minute there are at least a half million people playing poker for free with no opportunity to win any prize at all.

...

It amazes me how people continue to think they are an expert and can dictate how GGG runs their business. Get off the internet, start your own business, and for the love of christ... get over yourselves.

I'm kind of shocked by the feedback here...
GGG sets up a new system for a bunch of small races that is clearly designed as a test of their league capabilities and some people are QQing hard...

I don't really need any rewards. I'm just thrilled that I'll have a chance to compete with other people in this game. These 'races' are very similar to the tournaments that Blizzard used to run for Warcraft 3. There were no rewards for those tournaments other than certain tournament icons for your account and they were generally placed at awkward times for me.

I'll be the first to admit that I won't be able to make probably even a third of these races. But I'll get to be in the weekend ones and probably get to group with my friends for one or two. I don't care a lick about the rewards. It's a pleasure just getting to see how we stack up against other players in this game.

Also, this is clearly a 2 month test run of their league system. There will be more seasons. There will be more rewards. There will be more content. What more can we ask for? Look at how little is being done with Diablo 3. There is no game out there offering what PoE is.

Little disappointed with the response to this one.

The best you can do is argue semantics? Looks like you're the funny one. You don't think I know how poker tournaments work? Would it have been easier for you to comprehend if I had said fake money poker GAMES?

Fake poker is popular because (a) real poker is illegal in the US (b) people are afraid to lose real money (c) gambling is addictive. Again, pointing out these things completely misses the point of my post. Again, you're the funny one.

Try re-reading the post, comprehending what the message actually is and how it applies to PoE then come back and comment on it.
