Race Event Season One announced!

I think it's really cool, especially the chance to get some of the prices without playing every event. :)

To some of the points mentioned here regarding orbs... they could let you buy orbs with your RP, although I really think the current reward system is pretty awesome. I always felt like orbs as a reward is lame... unique items with unique skins... nice. :)

Just quoting this for agreement. Or perhaps combine it with the progression-rather-than-level idea, so that you get a currency bag if you defeat Merveil/bandits/whatever?

That would mean that people who aren't fond of grinding in one place can still aim for a prize, if not reward points, and beating a boss is still challenging on the whole.

Or what about making the currency reward untradeable? That would mess up the economy a lot less (I'm still skeptical it does affect it much, but you'd know better I guess). That way people can actually use the items to twink their character.

I guess I'd envision it like this:
- New untradeable items, that mimic currency ones, but have charges on them - e.g. "Chromatic Bag", which you can use five times and then it disappears. Thus different artwork and slightly different mechanics for the untradeables.
- There are given on a per-race basis, so still motivation for casual players to participate in single events and not worry about over all status.
- They are rewarded for progression-based achievements (e.g. defeating Merveil), appealing to those who don't care for grinding in one spot, and also casual gamers who are essentially competing against their past selves but don't expect to win anything.
- The exact amount and how its calculated is whatever suits GGG.

This is something that I reckon can be changed for this season (though maybe only mid-season as I don't know if you've got the code for untradabled items, or if other aspects are awkward to code in) - if just this is changed then at least more people will participate, giving more feedback for things people want to see in later seasons.

I am all happy about game and what you guys doing but if you want it to BLOW UP you need more .

Also this would be a great addition, though I'd say its something to think about for later seasons.

it always amazes me what new ideas the devs team comes up with. i already expected to not getting orbs for reaching certain level thresholds as this would ruin the economy with so many players.

i'm sure with the RP-system you found the right motivation for the majority of people to play the season ladder games. like the artwork on the new prizes alot.

I was super excited to see the new race season announcement... until I saw the prizes were replacing the currency rewards instead of in addition to.

This prizes are cool but I don't really see myself being very motivated much to get them.

I'll probably race less and focus more on playing the main league as things stand.

I hope the prize system gets reconsidered.
What's up with the race times???? No races at night EST?? Well this is really disappointing.
I really love that Races are on & the whole Season Idea! :)

But I'm not sure about the Reward-System as Incentive to the 'casual/normal' Players. I personally compete for fun, but did like getting some Currency on a good Day's Race here and there. I just would like to have somme kind of Currency-Reward for the RP besides the great overall System with Ladders, Uniques & so on.
Looking foward to Races and the Discussion to work out the Incentives for the Players with much Love for PoE, but maybe not that much Time/Experience/Skill ;)

During the Closed Beta, we gave out Demigod’s Presence unique amulets to the top players of each character class in an event. In the Open Beta, we’re keeping this concept, but with a new item. For most short races, the top player of each class will receive a Demigod’s Triumph unique wreath. Like all other race reward items, this helmet can be traded with other players.

We will also be adding a ladder of reward points for the current season. This ladder will show which accounts have the most points so far and will help us track who is due to win the overall season prizes. At this stage we’re expecting to give alternate art Demigod’s Triumphs to the top 20 people in the overall ladder of reward points for this season. Details of this will be announced when we have the ladder of reward points implemented soon.


Did you guys complaining about the rewards even read that part? Pretty damn good rewards imo.
If the orb rewards continued with the amount of players in open beta the economy would get completely wrecked.
