Detailed Atlas Mechanics

So this system punish players who travel and explore all the maps, everyone will just run a few maps near the "main" map you need to farm , If you accidently run a map in another path it ruined your map drop by add a chance to drop another "useless" map to your drop rate pool. Great looks like now I will have to play with only 3-4 maps the entire of the league (and go to Youtube to watch what's the new map look like because I don't want to accidently complete them).
I think people are largely pitching a fit over nothing. Or more accurately, pitching a fit because GGG is giving them a new Kia instead of a BMW.

Were accounts "bricked" before by the 100% RNG map drops? No. You still have far more control over your maps then you did before and honestly granting the people the ability to remove maps from their drop poll would be downright abusive.

I also doubt that we are going to be allowed to cherry pick maps via trade. GGG would be stupid to allow us to 100% optimize our map pool. I, like other people, bet that when you unlock a high tier map via trade that it burrows a path back to the nearest t1.

As for the whining about having to farm higher tier maps to get drops of maps you've shaped? Meh. It's again like complaining about having to choose between cake or ice cream for desert. Maps drop rates have always been gated by mlvl why should it be substantially different. The shaper orb seems to simply be a way to keep maps you like relevant for a longer period once you've passed them in level, not a l33t h4x method of optimizing xp gain.

After all, the point of this expansion is to lengthen the end game, not shorten it even further.

So if I get it right, I just have to wait for players to farm red maps (or make an alt account to do so), use them and I'll only drop red maps and 4 white for the rest of my life ?

Roughly, yes, but it depends on the exact mechanics.

First of all, the problem isn't with tiers (or red/yellow/white), it's with layouts. If, say, Gorge and Orchard are on the same tier, and you've played only Gorge, then every time you find a map of that tier it will be a Gorge map. However, if you now play Orchard, even only once, then from that moment on, for every character in that league (hi, Standard players!), you have a 50/50 chance of maps of that tier being either Gorge or Orchard.

The other part, which would open up this system to abuse, would be if running a "new" map unlocks just that map and not the entire path up to it. If it doesn't and you just get the new map, you can cherrypick the maps of each tier that you want to be able to find.

What I think is more likely is that it functions the same way as legacy maps, meaning it unlocks the entire path to this map. This will mean that you can't unlock all the high maps (guardians in particular) within screwing with which maps are unlocked at lower tiers.

In either case, there will be the serious risk of bricking your atlas at the account level, by, e.g., forever turning 50% of your Gorges into Orchards.

another problem is if this system stays the same, every new league there might be changes to map layouts which means every new league if you want min max or if you dont want to play shit maps you will have to wait for those that are willing to ruin their atlas to figure out best maps to play. Players in standard leagues will have bricked atlases after this league anyway. Only alternative to this i see is they never change map layouts again :)

At least you should have unlocked a map from every tier. but maybe im wrong :D

Yes, cherry-pick (=buy from poe.trade) one good map from each tier, run those only and you can exclude at least some of the drops you dont want.

Meh, I'm mostly hyped for the new tilesets & boss fights, so in the end I'll probably just complete the whole Atlas. Maybe create an alt-account for specific farming.

I posted this in GD, but i will ask the question here as-well.

What happens if i trade in 3 of a kind shaped maps?

nope

If you trade for a map and complete it then it unlocks on your Atlas, even if it's not connected to any other ones.
Well it appears to be a less radical of a change that was generally expected it seems, but I overall like it. Really don't get the uproar about the shaper orb. It still seems very useful.

Well personal challage for the essence league is to fill in the Atlas then!

Not if we don't try out the new league just for fun. By strictly sticking to Standard play we can prevent that outcome.

... There's just so many good things coming out of this announcement :/

You can indeed just buy specific maps you want and unlock only them. Those maps will drop:

- Maps on the Atlas that are connected to them (you sell those to buy more maps you want)
- T1 maps

So, this way you can exclude a good portion of the atlas out of the drop equation.
