Hello Path of Exile players

If you're serious about this, you'll need:

- a method to determine which players to ask which a) is random b) avoids repeat results if many people are doing the survey
- proof of reliability (I can't think of something apart from stream/video)

One way I can think of is to just stay in towns and ask random players near you. This could lead to players being asked multiple times but I can't think of a more practical way to go about it.
You have to be realistic about these things.

It's fine, we probably wasted more on pointless feedback and suggestions than never had the slightest chance of seeing the light of day. Besides, it isn't their job to determine if Chris was just tossing some wool on us with that vocal majority thingy :)

I'll test the waters and see if I can't find a few people that are genuinely interested in unraveling the mysteries of modern advertising and public relations.

Certainly, but I don't feel I must do it, so it's not work. What's more, I usually post while I'm at work so I have additional motivation to do it. Undertaking a serious, coordinated project to do something worthwhile?

I shudder at the thought.

When I said it's their job, I meant surveying the community's opinions on various aspects of the game. It's obvious to me they should be doing it and I'm baffled why they aren't. Actually, no game I've played does this, which makes no sense to me. They should have daily polls in the main menu. Not saying the community's opinion is the word of God and must be obeyed at any cost, but it would certainly provide valuable information. I mean, companies which sell fucking washing powder do this, and their product is infinitely more simple and straightforward than a pc game.

The best way to know the community reception is to examine ingame data: how many people are engaging in lab content, for how long and how frequently. They can do all these without polls.

-They removed tits
-Game is still fine
-Game is not dead
-Lab is 'QQ' topic #1 since it's release, so lets talk about Lab

I hate lab too tbh. Until I made myself a mjolnir jugg.

idk, it's perfectly fine, quick easy grind, enchants are freaking op, uber lab can have insane drops on their chests. just dont run vaalpact or a es char with a slow es recharge rate/start and u are more than good. Damage at the current state of the game shouldnt be a problem at all.

That's the basis on which Chris said his famous 'vocal minority' line, a significant part of the community claims it's bullshit, that Chris is either lying to us or deluding himself. It's one of the reasons for debate, Chris claims that very few players hate the lab.

At the moment, I am. We'll see how bored I am one month into the league and how hard will finding 19 more bored idiots of suitable character be.

- I thought of using a random number generator on the ladder for some of the results and asking around the town for the rest. If we stretch it out over a week or two we shouldn't get many overlaps, especially if we have players from different servers.
- Some of it would be streamed, yeah, I had it set up recently and wouldn't mind recording it. A few more people should be fine, if the rest of the results are similar to those it should be proof enough, after all it isn't one man doing the whole work, a coordinated scam that involves known names of moderate disposition from the forum and reddit with a few streamers added to the mix would be unlikely.

But yeah, ultimately depends on the community response, and it should be more interesting than sinking a few more k alts in that 6L Exquisite blade I got and getting pissed about the results.
Wish the armchair developers would go back to developing armchairs.

The lab straw poll has 2400 voters. This is a more than excellent sample size for PoE's population and has at least a 97% confidence level. If you are talking about something, like mathematics, statistics and sociology, it's recommended to at least know some basics or you'll probably make a fool of yourself.

Article about sample sizes in sociological surveys (table 1 on page 3)

Unfortunately, a lot of sampling bias takes place with these forum polls. I would take them with a grain of salt.

I agree with Bars on this, if people will still argue like you all do about this game, the game is still kicking :)

You could almost say you're working together to keep it alive :)

You could probably conclude that a majority of players hate a lot of things. Sure if you break out individual pieces for a survey you're going to get a lot of negative responses. But when you take the game as a whole it's a different story.

What do you think this poll would tell:
On a scale of 1 to 5, with 1 being you hate it/it's bad and 5 being you love it/it's great, rate the following:

Labyrinth/Traps
Three difficulties
Trade
Map drops
Risk/reward balance
Item/Skill Balance
Melee/Range balance
Experience penalty
Spike Damage/One Shots
Droprate/RNG

I bet when you get the results of such a poll, it'd be easy to conclude that a majority of players hate this game.

Easy to say now when your league character is a god, or you're running it on standard characters after months of practice. A lot of the early dislike/feedback/hate was legitimate - the lab was not perfectly fine. Some of the hate was justified and was fixed by GGG. Some of the hate was justified but was only alleviated because of heroes that posted layouts on reddit and other websites that make the lab much more palatable (2000% less backtracking). Some of the hate was people overreacting on day 1 to brand new confusing/challenging content.

I think some people took their opinion in the first 3 days and now don't want to update their stance or admit they've softened on how much they dislike the lab.

I stand by everything I said on my first lab encounter. It was true for me, at the time. Before reddit layouts. Before knowing that being the same level of the zone is meaningless, and you're supposed to be 10 levels over to make up for their tuning. Before anyone realized that life regen, instant flasks, and movement speed let you turn the SATs into a preschool aptitude assessment.

I'm not nearly that upset about the lab given the shifting circumstances. There are legit gripes though, and I'm certainly not running it for fun or loot any time soon. I still think the traps are overdone/poorly designed in that there are too many traps and not enough monsters. I still think that full lab reset on death/dc is over the top for SC. I still think the little side chests aren't rewarding enough, and if they have to nerf the end chests a little to make the side chests better, so be it (not that they should listen to me, they should listen to people that like the concept in the first place).

I'm over it. Still think it has design flaws, still don't find it fun, no longer mad.
