I'm having difficulty increasing my critical strike chance. I'm really confused.

I have a rare Coiled Staff that has a 20% increased critical strike chance mod that I added to it by crafting in my hideout. In one of the blue sockets I have put an Ice Nova skill gem that has a 6% critical strike chance.

When I take that Ice Nova skill gem out of the Coiled Staff and put it into a Crescent Staff, which has an 80% increased global critical strike chance, the critical strike chance for the Ice Nova skill goes down, not up.

What am I doing wrong?
How do I get my Ice Nova to critical strike more often?

Well, "x% increased critical strike chance" didn't show up on my list, did it :P Weapons (all white Weapons) have a base critical strike chance, so the mod "x% increased critical strike chance" only helps Attacks. It will do nothing for your Ice Nova.

If you want to pick the right Mastercraft for your build, you'll need to visit Headstones, which is the crafting bench associated with Catarina, Master of the Dead. As you can see on her mod list on the wiki the mod you want would be called "x% increased Critical Strike Chance for Spells."

But that doesn't make any sense to me. I'm not trying to be argumentative, I just can't wrap my head around this. I've been staring at the mathematical formula for Critical strike chance in Wiki for nearly two hours now and the error I'm making in the math totally escapes me.

If the "20% Increased Critical Strike Chance" mod that is on my Coiled Staff has no influence upon my Ice Nova skill gem, why would the final CriticalStrikeChance for Ice Nova lower when I move it to a different weapon? After reading what you wrote, it seems to me that the final CriticalStrikeChance should remain the same no matter what weapon I put the gem on so long as the weapon doesn't have the "% increased Critical Strike Chance for Spells" mod on it. Right?

Sorry for bothering you with this again. I just can't account for the reduction in CriticalStrikeChance for my Ice Nova when I move it and my failure to do so is really nagging me.

This might be better suited for an individual thread or PM. In any case, you should probably unhide your characters:

1. Click your account name on the upper left of the forum when logged in (mine says adghar)
2. Click Privacy settings in the box on the right
3. Uncheck the Hide characters tab option
4. Click Update

and maybe also link the given items into your post(s), by clicking your character portrait in the upper left corner of the forum website and clicking your items, while a post Content box is activated.

My guess would be that one of the gem setups has Increased Critical Strikes Support while the other one doesn't, but I'm not too imaginative when it comes to issues like these.

I have a question if I connect the BV + IQ gem, and if I kill the monsters by an explosion from the wand obliteration, will IQ work?

I have a question: what exactly counts as "shatter"? For as far as i know this word is only used on HoI and shattered chains.
What I am mainly wondering is if only killing a frozen enemy counts as "shattering" it, or if effect such as pyre ("Ignited Enemies you hit are destroyed on Kill") count as such?
