" Very intriguing - can you help specify where on the skilltree you're talking about? Where is the "second skill duration cluster?" Thanks in advance! Last edited by Baloosh#4288 on Mar 14, 2017, 11:12:59 AM

amazing what a shitshow this thread has turned into.
I'll say it again: the second duration cluster only comes into effect against enemies that stand still for more than 5 seconds in a row. minotaur and sometimes phoenix fall into this category. hydra, chimera, shaper and uber atziri dont. simply put: this build is already freakishly strong against bosses that remain stationary and can be facetanked. its the fights where a tough boss keeps running out of our stacked icestorms (hydra in particular) and/or uses strong attacks that force us to move away (uber, shaper) that this build ""struggles"" with. moreover, since this build already has the first duration cluster, taking the second would - in an ideal setup - at most be equivalent to a 31% more multiplier, not a 45% one. (1.9/1.45 = 1.310). but the 8 passives required to get there also cost us tons of int, and probably at least one instance of base duration. so even in an ideal setting, it would effectively be a 20% more multiplier at most. so tl,dr: taking the second duration cluster would buff our single target dps by something like 20% in those rare fights where a boss is neither dead nor has moved away after 5 seconds of stacking icestorms on top of his head. for all other bosses and for mapping, it means a loss of int, damage and ES. and ofc it means reaching certain build goals later, i.e. a higher level would be required to get to all the "good" stuff. ----- about the helm discussion: I'll admit that I overlooked the damage bonus which doedres gives per curse. so a perfectly rolled doedres would give us 80% increased damage on those monsters that are acutally cursed. some math: the elementalist version of this build has a total of around 800% increased damage if we add up the bonuses from the passive tree, jewels, golems, ascendancy and int. adding another 80% on top of that is approximately equivalent to a 9% MORE multiplier. black sun provides 15% increased int. if we're running a perandus signet, but no emperors wit or emperors mastery jewels, we are sitting at a base amount of %inc int of 18% (WI) + 10% (perandus) = 28%. adding 15% on top of that is equivalent to a 11.7% MORE multiplier (1.43/1.28 = 1.117). the 20-30 int on doedres should almost make up for that 2-3% gap. so against enemies that are cursed with all three curses, doedres gives almost the same damage and provides a bit more ES (though not thaaat much...); on top of being easier to color. note, however, that this math breaks down if the enemy isnt cursed with all 3 of our curses. say because the new blasphemy radius is pitiful after the aoe nerf, or because we havent been hit yet so that cwdt-ball light-coh hasnt triggered yet. so in the end, I think a well-rolled doedres can compete with black sun, but the difference shouldnt be massive, neither for damage nor for ES. So...totally new to the game but decided to roll this build for my first character partially because I really like the playstyle and partially because it's throwing up nostalgia back to my blizz Sorc in D2.
Anyways, what're the best ways to procure the gear that I need? Specifically, Whispering Ice, Astramentis, Fertile Mind, and my Agate Amulet and Cobalt Jewel? If I find a amulet/jewel without the necessary modifiers, is there a way to re-roll them? |

" Search for them in the poe.trade You can try crafting them, yeah but i rather just buy a good one. |

" How much should I expect to pay for them? I'm pretty poor right now since I just started up. I think the most valuable thing I have right now is a chaos orb. What are the drop rates for these items like? Is it even worth it for me to try to farm the necessary items naturally? |

" the only item that's truly mandatory is whispering ice itself. you can get one with mediocre rolls for 1 alch. 1-2 chaos orbs should be enough to get a rare amulet with 60+ int and some str/dex to cover the stat requirements. maybe another chaos orb for a 400ish rare chest. so yeah, at this point in the league, you can start out the build with a 3c budget. that will be enough to farm dried like, where you can do the chaos recipe for a steady income of 5-8 chaos per hour. that should easily carry you into maps. |

Okay today i bought this for 2 alcs. I really hate -light raidus of black sun. Anyway it was 1 socket and got 4 sockets with 3-4 jewels and got 2r 1b 1g in about 4-5 chroma and linked them around same number fuse. So basically it cost me around 2-3c which is a total steal :) I never used black sun so i can't compare dps and leech, but dps went off to the roof after swtiching from a bad rare. |
