noob question here. For the black sun crest, is it easier to just chrome spam it for the 3 blues and 1 red or should I craft it on artisan bench asking for at least 3 blues. I chrome spammed it like 7 times and didn't get anything.

Use the bench for 3 blue. It's a str/dex item, so it's highly unlikely you'll roll BBBR by spamming orbs at it.

I'm planning on trying this build for the holiday weekend. Just wanted to say THANK YOU for having such a detailed guide. As a casual player who just doesn't have the time to try to theory craft having a very detailed guide with a leveling section is a huge help.

There's not a problem, but you kinda just wasted 20 fuses. The beauty of the staff is that because it has an implicit skill, the staff doesn't have to be linked. Every support gem acts as if it's linked to the main skill.

actually, the chrome calc says that using vorici 1B or 2B is the best option - and those two options are very close to each other in terms of average chromes required to hit 3B1R. but they are clearly better than chrome spamming or vorici 3B...

It's an average. I myself used around 200 instead of the 70 the vorici calc said for my boots. 3 blue might cost you more if you have good luck, but way less if you have bad luck - and you can't test your luck until you waste a few dozen chromatics.

sorry, but you have absolutely no clue how probabilities work. there is no such thing as "an item having bad luck bound to it" which could be "tested" by trying some... essentially, processes like chroming or fusing are internally done by a markov chain, whose determining property is the "memorylessness", i.e. new rolls are independent from previous rolls.

with vorici 1B, the average chrome cost to hit 3B1R is 203 chromes, the standard deviation is 50.34 attempts or 201 chromes. with vorici 2B, the average cost is 233 chromes, with a standard deviation of 8.81 attempts or 220 chromes. with vorici 3B, the average cost is 273.4 chromes, with a standard deviation of 1.71 attempts or 205 chromes. so the variability in chrome costs is actually not lower with 3B compared to 1B!

the reason for this is simple: when you do vorici 3B, the one reamining socket has 3 options; getting blue on it is quite unlikely. green or red have the same probability. so you are almost guaranteed to get either 3B1R or 3B1G, but in half the cases its 3B1G, i.e. the fourth color will miss. therefore, you have a slightly lower than one in two chance to hit 3B1R when doing vorici 3B. (the average number of required attempts is 2.3, the standard deviation is lower at 1.71 since the distribution is asymmetric...)



tldr: everyone should be doing vorici 1B, no matter what.
