post your ideas for new monsters!
In case not to be missed/overlooked;
Had a speak regarding families of species, i remind suggesting Lizardmen/Troglodyte families into Wraeclast for enhanced gameplay experience, also they fit quite well with the atmosphere & environment of PoE. Troglodyte #1
Spoiler
Troglodyte #2
Spoiler
Troglodyte #3
Spoiler
Also mutated versions of a comoda dragon or a hyena would be suitable in wilderness next to Rhoas, imo. "This is too good for you, very powerful ! You want - You take"

as per request i'm copying this here from a thread i've started in the suggestions section on the forums, feel free to comment/criticise
Sorry if it has been posted before million times but here's my 2c regarding new monster types. Enemies -------- Torso (or any other body part) - just crawling with it's guts out trying to reach you and claw some of your life away. Creeper - moves slowly until it gets close to you where it charges/dashes/leaps. Burrower - has the ability to move under ground - attacks by emerging or just by protruding some claw/limb/tentacle from beneath. Doppleganger - elite monster that mirrors/mimics your abilities using them against you. Stalker/shadow - monster that is stealthy/invisible and static when you're far from it (underground parts, narrow corridors) and unstealths/attacks when you get close. Flying monsters - patrolling by flying above by irregular paths, turning into a normal monster when attacking (descending from flight and turning into normal attack animation) Swarms - normal monster that splits when attacked making it unable to hit for a while until it 'regroups', vulnerable to elemental damage Summoners (spawning new minions giving no xp or loot, capped on certain # per summoner type) Necromancers (ressurecting dead monsters as spectres) Healers (if there already aren't, otherwise just more of them) healing other monsters Rock lobbers - throwing projectiles that fly balistically (like leap slam, just different gfx) - can also lob minions Squealers - when attacked/ on low life start running away fast alarming monsters en masse Trappers - snaring you (not just by cold magic) and luring you into traps immobilizing you (not stunning to prevent stunlock) so that you have to use ranged attacks or abilities to break the immobilizing effect Preachers - specific monster that temporarilly converts your minions to enemies Debuffers - cast debilitating spells and curses on players Traps ------- snares, explosive, poison, shock, burning traps triggered either by intelligent monsters when retreating from you or by proximity when walking past or over them |

It might sound too cliche but i'd really like to see cannibals in act 2.Act two is gorgeous but not creepy enough imo.I have the feeling to hunt mushrooms^^
Think about cannibal holocaust.i know weird movie lol Alira's camp has the appropriate atmosphere for it but fighting archers and bandits... What i'd like to see too is crocodiles coming from the river, more mobs appearing as spiders would be a nice touch , creepy moment to me. I think about resident evil 5 (not the crrepiest one for sure) but the scene with crocodiles was really amazing in term of atmosphere. Some really giant snake in the river, think about anaconda.I am a fan of horror movies ,so sorry for the bad referencesXD The forest act is a little bit lacking in term of wild and dangerous atmosphere. The north part (broken bridge etc)is fine with bandits and bears.More European forest ruled by kraytin. While the south considering the design is more exotic.I don't see why we have archers again. Some more exotic mobs would suits better.Man eating plants, crocodiles etc. The spider forest is perfect in that sense. But reaching alira's camp and pools an stream it still seems civilized.Due to the bandits of course. But alira leading cannibals would be nice. The overall design of the game is good but something is missing to make wraeclast a real creepy and dangerous place. I am also a fan of cthulhu's lore so feel free to inspire from his books. Let's not let this great thread once started by dust7, die.
What came to my mind shortly before is in Dark Forest, let be some trees living and evil. Let them have the ability bind you to ground for about 3-5 seconds and by the time leeching both your mana/life for a total of about 2-3%. And they would have random sets of curses also. I think these kind of more environmental monsters could add immersion and challenge at the same time. Also they would prohibit mindless rushes from one place to another just in order to pass x place because it isn't a quest place f.e More could be added/expanded, this is what's on my mind right now. But i'm sure it shall add tension, fear, and excitement to gameplay experience obviously. "This is too good for you, very powerful ! You want - You take"

I would like to suggest the inclusion of a primitive race of people that look like cthulhu.

How about an advanced race of underground beings inspired by Cthulu mythos? Like say...
Illithids (Mind Flayers) Illithids are regarded in D&D as one of the most horrifying beings to ever run into in the underdark. llithids have a basically humanoid body, but their head is octopus-like. They have four tentacles around a lamprey-like mouth, and require the brains of sentient creatures as part of their diet. An illithid who snares a living creature in all four of its tentacles can extract and devour its living brain. Their eyes are pale white, and they can see perfectly well in both darkness and light. Their sense of hearing is slightly poorer than a human's; they have difficulty distinguishing between several sounds mixed together. Their skin is purplish blue to gray-green and covered in mucus, and is very sensitive to sunlight. Though sunlight does not actually harm them, they loathe it with incredible ferocity. One of the most feared powers is the dreaded Mind Blast, where the illithid emits a cone-shaped psionic shock wave with its mind in order to incapacitate any creature for a short amount of time. Illithids also have other psionic powers, generally telepathic in nature, although their exact effects have varied over editions. Other powers include a defensive psionic shield and powers of psionic domination for controlling the minds of others. ------------------------- I always loved Beholders as well, since they had so many abilities and innate magic and elemental resistances. Randomly encountering one of these often meant your DM was intentionally trying to kill you, especially if he threw in a few Gas Spores (Creatures that look curiously like beholders, but explode in a cloud of poisonous gas and spores if they take very little damage). In dark areas (where they tend to like hiding) the two should be very similar in appearance, but not just a change in skin... Beholder Gas Spore Obviously they share similarities, but have an overall different appearance. |

The game has a low/dark fantasy feel, so I would like to see more animals such as black panther, more realistic spiders (hairy and thin, instead of the goofy looking spiders of PoE),
Also some light nudity would be nice, which goes well with the theme. Right now we have lightly dressed females holding the life and mana orbs. How about some more human female-based enemies? Something like Amazons as a counter part to the bandits, rushing on you like they're on drugs and soaked in blood, ... Centipede.. Giant Praying Mantis.. Wolves |

Carrion creatures that have chances of showing up once you have partially or fully cleared a map of enemies, leave the map, then return.
They would spawn near dead enemies, but if a character disposed of all the corpses in some way--explosion, ice shatter, raising--they wouldn't show up. Maybe they could be exceptionally strong, but slow, so that players have the choice of killing them or just running through. Maybe there could be a rare chance of a Carrion Lord Unique(or something) spawning, that would be as powerful as main quest line/Act end bosses, and something like 10 levels above the area level. When the player enters the area text shows up on the screen saying "You sense a foul presence." and then they know, oh shit, do I start a new instance, try to avoid him, or kill him for the loot/exp? The Carrion Lord could have better than usual drops to increase the desire to actually clear an entire area of enemies, and revisit cleared areas. There could be a few different ones with varying abilities, all of which are swarms of small creatures though. This would actually make it realistic that a unique boss respawns, since the death animation could be part of the swarm escaping, thus showing the character that death and decay are never truly extinguished, but merely ever beaten back. Quick examples could be, Lord of Rats, Lord of Flies, Lord of Maggots, Lord of Crows. All of which are made up of a swarm of their specific creature. Each would have varying strengths and weaknesses, but all would be able to feed on corpses to regain health, and take more damage from attacks with a radius. You would know which Carrion Lord was present in the level based on the minor carrion creatures present. For instance, if you returned and you saw the "You sense a foul presence message." and then began encountering giant maggots (think carrion crawlers from D&D, Baldur's Gate, etc.), you'd know somewhere the Lord of Maggots would be lurking, feasting on the dead. Flourish. Last edited by Corsaer#5810 on Jun 9, 2012, 5:03:48 PM

cthulhu-esque monster or bust.
Alma 48:17
17 Yea, verily, verily I say unto you, if all men had been, and were, and ever would be, like unto Moroni, behold, the very powers of hell would have been shaken forever; yea, the devil would never have power over the hearts of the children of men. |
