Hmm, currently using a 5-link with EQ, Less duration, Melee phys damage, Increased aoe/conc effect and deciding upon the last slot. I'm choosing between added fire damage and melee damage on full life.
I do have an aegis and tooltip dps is around 19k with auras will full life gem, and around 17k with added fire. However I sometimes drop below full life which means my tooltip dps drops to around 12k. Note sure if the consistent 17k is better or 19k with drops to 12k every now and then and on bosses...

Any thoughts? :)

Honestly, I would use BoR instead of 5L, I was getting 30k dps with AoE gem.
On maps where you can sustain full life almost all the time, you should be using Melee damage on full life, if not, added fire.

If you are constantly dropping to no-full life even on easy maps, I see some problem, (maybe lack of armour?)

not sure if you've seen and its not me but someone made a post on reddit they took down hardcore malachi with a similar build though going into templar tree https://streamable.com/56z4 and profile https://www.pathofexile.com/account/view-profile/holysleven1/characters

Well done. Take down Malachai core isn't easy but I'm wondering if that was a melee or a mid range aftershock EQ?

This build is very tank, but the DPS is a bit low. Has anyone tried using an Abyssus and a armour/es chest?

This build can do Core map, but you can't face tank it. You have to use AoE gem and only attack with Aftershock damage while kiting around. (But, it takes a long time to do this)

I really enjoy leveling this with 2H weapons. I think the 1H weapons are inferior for the process of leveling. Thoughts?

I felt like 1h dual wielding was better early to mid leveling,
then 2h weapons felt stronger from mid to end of leveling.

But everyone has different preferred leveling build
Having some serious intelligence problems here. Would you suggest the brute force gem anywhere?
I see most varunastra builds going for RT, but those crit nodes seem appealing. Anyone try going crit with varunastra?

You can go crit but not with aegis block since you wont have enough points.

I have an assassin varunastra. 60k sunder with crap budget gear. I reached 120k dps with facebreaker and abyssus. But on a duelist block you won't cap crit and block sadly. Cause tbh varunastra should be built with crit imo.

Once my gems hit 20 I'll reroll and try this. But i will start out with my facebreakers. Ez life.

Build is going great, such a change to be tanky - I'm normally always ranged and squishy,or pure evasion/dodge.
Damage is better than I though too. Wish the aoe was a bit better, but HoA and gratuitous violence helps clear packs/fracture mobs etc.
Got most of my end game gear now and a few jewels ready to go (went for one quad damage rather than a life one as couldn't resist)

Gear

I recommend getting them from gears like ring/ammy. If you can't, then yea you can use brute force pretty much everywhere
