Here is why the Labyrinth favours softcore and is a very bad design.

The problem:

Traps deal percentage damage. If you gear defensively and go for large hp/es pool, this does nothing to help you against traps. Except, your recovery will take longer, resulting in less ehp overall after you are done with traps.

Basically, your defenses (against traps) suffer if you gear/spec deffenisvely. Which is bad design.

I propose solution:

Traps deal percentage of base life combined with flat damage. Example (numbers pulled out of my @ss):
- trap used to deal 50% of health+ES per second on all difficulties
- trap now deals 25% of health+ES + 100 per second on normal
- trap now deals 25% of health+ES + 500 per second on cruel
- trap now deals 25% of health+ES + 1000 per second on merciless

This way traps will not be trivial regardless on difficulty, but still high health/ES players will live noticably longer against them for their ehp investment

Offtopic

Hardcore/softcore/it's hard!/it's easy!/ascendancy points should be free/I like traps/I hate labirynth/Ponies are kewl

Seriously, how does above add anything to dicussion about this particluar mechanic?

Nice to see at least one good post in multiple threads about the same topic, rest is insults as always :> Not a surprise most people didn't even notice it xD

Good solution IMO.

Imagine Spiderman shooting his web onto a bridge and swinging across. Now imagine Batman trying to do the same thing, except Batman is trying to swing across the bridge while he is still sitting in his car.

OK, I'm imagining it. Batman will just drive across the bridge.

If he has to do it in the air, then he'll just jump it with his car, or his car will turn into a plane, or a batplane will come down and attach to his car to give him a lift.

I'm not sure I get your analogy.
Face it, all of your suggestions are worse than this idea:

OP it can't possibly favor SC over HC, when the idea around it is a hardcore mentality. You complete it all at once or you don't SC players actually have less advantages in the lab compared to what they are used to.

Should be changed. How? Do you have any better idea?

It's not really that hard to find solutions. Introduce life flasks that heal percentage of life and es could be one.
Remove ascendancy points from lab and put them on malachai for people who have trouble or don't want to run labyrinths could be another etc.

Percent life + ES flasks.

ES flasks.

Vaal Discipline is now completely worthless.

G_G.
Zzz. Hardcore players literally just running through traps with flasks or using movement abilities to avoid them entirely.

Zzz. Less time spent in the trap = less % damage dealt to you.
Harvest sucks! But look at my decked out gear two weeks in!

Labyrinth salt farm miner.

"But my build diversity" , "Game is too hard!" - Meta drone playing the same 1-3 builds for years.
I think at this point I maybe average getting hit by a trap once per map section? The only time I consistently got hit by traps was when I went and beat merciless on my undergeared char who had 12% move speed. And no movement skills.
beat it 3 times as my no-movement-speed, flame dash 10k ES witch (will do it few more times for helm enchant, got desired gloves and boots on the first 2 runs)

died to a phone call in lava - it happens and no amount of pots would have saved me

other than that - todays layout is very light on traps so really difficult to spot where the danger is. never got below 50%, get hit once per map or less. i just got way better at avoiding this stuff than i was on the day 1

spike traps are harmless as you must deliberately (or headless chicken) run into them, lava is flame-dash-able + ES recharge on the safe spot, giant swiss knifes are for the blind. the most dangerous are the sawblades (they murder anyone who runs along). the totem+blades dudes are so easy to run trough that i no longer consider them trap

i understand that when someone lags (or has congested connection due to downloading steam patches) it can be dangerous but doing it as CI i did not even once though 'gee bad i have no pots'. maybe because im SC hero and i do not mind dying from time to time but still
