Farewell, my friends!

The actual traps are fine and the boss fight is a good bit of relief once he's finally found. It's only the actual being lost in the maze that's too much for me to take. It might be the several concussions I've suffered over the years or the exposure to flooring adhesives over my years of work affecting my memory or something, but I can end up all the way back at the beginning and completely forget the route I took to begin with. Then I start running low on time, my head starts spinning and panic attack sets in.

Sound fun? It isn't. lol

Be well, exiles!

(yes I know. nobody cares yadda yadda...)

I am sad to see you go, and I do hope you find something that will keep you entertained. I know that lost feeling all too well - I get that in first person 3D games all the time, and in real life occasionally. Unfortunately in RL, I can't just find the edge of the map and work my way around, like I can in an isometric game.

I have had dreams about frustrating game aspects (not yet in PoE), but usually after a couple nights of those, my subconscious found a solution and when I was awake and playing the game - whatever I was doing wrong was 'cured'.

You will be missed :-(

edit - just saw this comment later in the thread:

@ Sid - Yes. Solaris (among other areas) I can become semi-lost. But there's a real difference in that there's only one way out, so even if I must explore the entire level to find it, I DO eventually get out. The maze is very different as there's multiple exits that can loop back into areas with multiple exits, etc...

I wonder if GGG can add a way for players to track their path through an area, or allow us to 'mark' our map/mini-map with some various symbols using hot keys. I wasted about 15 min trying to find a point I had been at earlier in the maze (there was a silver door, but I didn't have the silver key yet). If I could have clicked something like Alt+MM_SK (mark map silver key) and see the icon on my map, it would have helped. Maybe you could use some numbered points as you work your way through an area to remind yourself which path you took?

*sigh*

Thank you for the words, sir!

GPS on my phone does wonders for IRL direction finding. It's the one thing that I like about these new fangled cell phones! lol

The other day, Charan & I talked briefly about a 'breadcrumb' feature. As a way to mark points of interest on the overhead/mini maps to help a lost exile find his/her way. Might be just the thing!

The areas are just so large and confusing, it can be overwhelming

I wonder how difficult it would be for GGG to add something like this. Even if it starts out as something basic - maybe 3 color choices and then a letter or number we type in.

It would be great for finding those strongboxes you decide to open later and seem to disappear, or that side area you decide to explore after finding the way point. I walked all over the submerged passage - seemed like I covered it inch by inch - at least 3 times trying to find the Flooded Depths opening. I ended up having to start a new instance to get the quest.

If PoE had a way to mark the map, it would have been so much simpler. Gah, wish GGG's meet up was within driving distance, so I could go bend Johnathan's ear and see if he had a solution.

1.) the map layout changes daily, if you make notes on your first run of the day which door on which direction to take, you can follow your notes on future runs for that day.

2.) you can get the fastest route to the boss from reddit (as was mentioned) and i'm sure there will be a website shortly which explains the daily labyrinth.

3.) ggg ever had a dynamic level design, they started with a highly flexible level layout creator but got bashed down by thousands of bad tile interactions so they took back some of the flexibility. with the lab it's all back to it's former glory.

4.) using the path table in the lab you can quickly find out if you're still on the main path to the boss or in a side area to get a key. otherwise just go upwards and take one of the 2 doors.

tl;dr their goal always has been for the player to feel lost. the lab is just the extreme version of it.

if you hate it and it's giving you mental problems, you just have to do it 3 times for your char to get the asc points, shouldn't be that difficult?

I was hoping that there were something other than those current location deals that I was missing! For me, those things don't seem to help me, as I can check them and find I have managed to loop around and end up at the same spot multiple times! lol

See if this helps. I ran the labyrinth a couple of times, so I sort of got the hang of the layout.

A few things about the labyrinth, if you are walking towards an area with an inexplicably large amount of traps, it is the wrong way. Find another path.

On the current location, you start on the west side, your goal is to go towards east.

If you go to the next area and that area has some symbols (silver key, cache, etc.) that is the wrong area, go back and find another route in the earlier map.

The exception is if an area has a Golden door, this requires you to go to the next area with the gold key location marker, then, you go back to the previous area to advance by unlocking that Golden door with your gold key.
With all due respect, Vio... Many of us don't have hours upon hours to make notes in order to make it through a single area of the game.

It's NOT giving me mental problems.

I have logged off a few times because it was taking too long due to being lost and needing to do other life things. So to say it's only 3 times per character is incorrect. For me, it represents potentially many multiple hours and tries.

And worst change is putting almost all bosses in new version of maps into fucking small areas, where you can't kite well or dodge stuff. What a terrible idiot invented that I want say to him: dude flick you, seriously flick you very much.

sorry if it came over as offensive, gf says i often do but it's not intentional.

the current labyrinth areas mostly have 2 exits and they're always on top right or left.

after one lab run a simple:
east
east
west
east
west
will lead you directly to the boss for the day without having to do side areas.
if you have problems finding the exits, they're marked on the minimap after you headed north.

things would be different if you had to get all the keys and beat the middle boss in order to get an enchantment or at least some gratification.

Cya, stay safe!

Can you do us a favor, tho? Can you please take all the Lab haters with you? That'd be appreciated. :V
