Now there are good things about the lab also. The chests can be very lucrative. And running uber lab for 'noobs' is also nice for making a buck, via fees or enchantments.
No one doubts that the lab is absurdly lucrative (to the point where it gives an appearance that GGG knows it has to bribe players to make them play through their "baby"). But putting the best rewards in the game behind the worst content doesn't even things out. It makes them twice as bad.

I agree with this sentiment.
Gating desirable rewards behind gameplay that many find unrewarding is what they did with Leo; GGG did that by attaching exclusive rewards for Leo (a PvP master) that are very attractive for PvE, knowing full well that a very sizable proportion of their playerbase had zero interest in PvP.
I think even the flies hanging out on the wall in the meeting(s) where that was decided must have wondered what those involved were thinking. Why not attach useful PvP rewards to a PvP master, instead of useful PvE rewards?
With lab GGG did a similar thing as with Leo, but with the volume turned up on both "unappealing gameplay" and "desirable rewards" to the following level:
Now that prestige classes will finally leave lab in 4.0, will GGG get it right this time or will they find new ways to repeat old mistakes?

Lab is shit. It is boring tedious and not fun. You telling us we need to learn how to play is irrelevant silly nonsense. ;)
Not as silly as you not understanding what isn't convenient to you on purpose :]
Lab is the equivalent of asking you to stick your <pick body part> in a book and smashing it for a thousand bucks.
Then people saying its fun to do. No having the money is fun. Lab is the same way.

ve only periodically poked my head in here so I may have missed some actual suggested alternatives. But it just occurred to me that GGG set the value of ascendency nodes to be equal to 5 passive points (5 regret orbs to refund one ascendency node). So instead of having the lab give ascendency points, just have them cost 5 passive points each. Each lab could give you 10 passive points instead of 2 ascendency points. Then people who skip the lab could still get their ascendencies without going through the lab.
Interesting thoughts, but the ascendancy class needs to be chosen at some point, by ... ascending.
SSF is not and will never be a standard for balance, it is not for people entitled to getting more without trading.

How about a $20 donation nets an official GGG employee chaperone through the lab? (Bex, Chris, Rachel, etc)

$20 should get 4 trips through the lab. :-)
Over 430 threads discussing labyrinth problems with over 1040 posters in support (thread # 1702621) Thank you all! GGG will implement a different method for ascension in PoE2. Retired!

Sure, and then for couple of chaos he kills Malachai and ends the game for you.
And then you can directly ask him to look for clues on the shaper, so that you don't need to map yourself.
