First Wave of Trade Improvements

I was pretty damn sure this was going to piss off a lot of people.

It's not necessarily a p2w feature, but it certainly gives you a pretty large advantage when it comes to trading. Stash tabs in the first place, buying more anyways, wasn't p2w, because you could make mule accounts and dual-box to mule.

Now if you don't have premium tabs, you're at a pretty CLEAR disadvantage compared to people who bought tabs.

It's not a big deal really for most players, but it goes against the non-p2w nature of this game. People who say it's not a big deal are either deluded or ignorant.

This!

Nobody is forcing you to buy, the old service/index websites still work, The old methods are not removed. Hence this is not P2W, but a luxury to those that have supported the game.

A new option that is only available to people who pay. Ok let me provide an example to make my point more clear.

Before the lockstep mode you could still play the game without it. The desync was annoying but the game was playable.

Imagine if you did this: You offer a micro-trasanction that unlocks the lockstep mode in the new patch. People complain saying that this is unfair (and some others say that it's just a dollar and whoever disagrees is a whiner and a troll). You respond saying that people can still play the game the way the were able to do before it's just that the lockstep mode opens a new option.

The point is, this feature is a feature that greatly enhances gameplay experience and it's supposed to be the starting point of a new trading system. And you make it so that only paying customers get this new feature.

And please don't tell me that I can use external tools like acquisition, I already do for some time now. You did not make these tools, you are not maintaining them nor you are responsible for them. If the creator of these tools stops supporting them then what?

In the end of the day you have to realise, this isn't about me or anyone else specifically (personally I have many premium tabs so this won't be a problem for me). It's alienating new players and deviating from your original goal to only make ethical microtransactions to support the game. In the end if this wasn't the stance of the company from the beginning, I would probably not be here today.

Many people who already play the game are supporting you because of your business model so far. Don't assume you can just change that without people getting upset about it.

Glorious post.
This action (the trade changes being premium only, as well as GGG employees standing by this decision), has crippled my trust in their business model.

Why not make it for non premium stash too ?? Why ?? why ??

Regular stash tabs aren't customizable. People pay for the privilege to customize tabs, and for GGG to undermine that by allowing everyone to customize their tabs to set up shop is stupid as you can still do this w/o the premium tabs.

This is not really changing anything....yet

so keep ya panties on

No one suggested taking customization from Premium tabs and adding it to regular tabs. It is a feature of premium tabs after all.
Adding ability to trade using regular tabs doesn't remove anything from premium tabs, they have exactly the same difference as before - you can customize color and name of the tab. If they make trading for premium tabs only - everyone who bought premium tabs will just get new feature for free, while everyone else doesn't have this new feature that is essential for the game. Yes, right now there is a shitty 3rd party replacement (which is not guaranteed to stay for long).
Did it say anywhere when you buy premium stash tabs that new trading system will work exclusively with them? No, it didn't. Even if you can come up with some excuses why it's not p2w it's still a shitty move to screw those who bought regular stash tabs.

Diablo iii = $30
Dark Souls iii = $60
You & Girl Friend out a night = what, ~ $50 - $100?
Etc.

Path of Exile = Free
1 Premium Stash Tab = $4
6 Preimum Stash Tabs = $20

And, what is the question again?

You think everybody lives in a US/UK? Some people earn X times less per day and still play video games. For me - 6 premium stash tab = 1 day of work, you ignorant a...le.
My guess as to why they linked it to premium stash tabs:

If they don't restrict this feature to at least accounts with some form of purchase on file (premium stash tabs or perhaps other microtransactions) they will be flooded with thousands of seller/spammer accounts.
btw thats no solution for the biggest trading problems in poe for new players = they dont know for how much they can sell their stuff! so i still need a look at poe.trade to know i can sell it for 1 chaos or 1 exalted.

as i said the best way would be a ingame auctions house like D3 oder even better, talk to poe.trade and build it in the game itself (its like d3 but with ui from poe, if u know what i mean)

Nobody can guarantee that these old methods will still be supported, because they are not maintained and supported by GGG. The only thing they can tell us is that they would not forbid using 3rd party tools for trading, but developers can easily stop supporting them (and actually 1 of them already did, and nothing can stop Xyz to do the same at some point).

Wow, sucks to live where you do. So, assuming you're not held captive in your country against your will, move. Otherwise, continue F2P and just enjoy the game. Don't obsess over this new feature, instead chalk it up to improved premium tabs, which always cost money anyways.

Having to spend.
Free game.

There's your hint.

I don't think anyone is denying that GGG are deserving of every single cent they get and more. I think people are more concerned about PoE potentially moving away from being a free game, where you actually don't have to spend anything. It's not that premium stash tabs carry an exorbitant cost that people are too cheap to cough up, but that people cherish PoE's reputation as truly F2P. That reputation in particular has made me and presumably quite a few others throw money at GGG to support their business model and I suppose now people are concerned that model's going to crack depending on the final state of the trade feature.

I mean, you more or less already written out the answer to your own bafflement. It's not about the amount of money, at all. It's the part about having to spend it in order to experience something that I believe many feel should be a core part of the game.

You just think it's that easy to emigrate?

Person 1:
Lol it sucks here, better just pack my stuff up and leave!

Oh wait, I'd have to pay to emigrate, leave my family, possible emigrate illegally ect.
