I think so, at least early on. When you've got all your crit nodes and a larger mana pool, you can maybe consider using GMP at 90+ though it would be situational. I think the damage and spread you get from LMP is enough.

Its hard to manage the mana when you want to use LMP on a 5L after you've gone CI since you're running 4 auras. It need some mana jewelry to the point where I don't think it would be viable to even be able to run GMP until 85ish.

Sorry for the maybe nooby question, but how do you sustain your ES? I know the Occultist passives are great but I don't see any kind of leech or anything other than stone golem regen. I'm struggling through act 3 merciless right now with about 5k es and capped res and I'm not sure why I'm just getting blasted to smithereens.

Can you go onto your account settings and go into privacy settings and uncheck the hide characters box so I can see your character and tree?

If you look in the spoiler at the bottom of the main post there is a big section describing all details. The part you're at is where you're at the shitty part of the build that you just have to grind through. It does come good but you're weak at that point in the game when your crit hasn't come into action and your ES pool is still small.

You need both Vile Bastion and Wicked Ward to make this easier on yourself, as well as properly rolled flasks.

Hi bro. I have been following this guide and i really love how you build your CI char. However i get my FP CI to 7x lvl and i'm not sure if the ~ 100 ES regen from stone golem is worth it plus the ZO skill point altogether. I currently using flame golem to increase my dmg output and also considering using chaos golem for even more physical protection. So what do you think bro?

I started using Stone golem this patch when it was introduced and I think its great. It not only provides the "taunt" to help take away enemies but the life regen really helps against degen and small damage sources. Degen is one of the most dangerous types of damage to CI and when you have a small bleed or standing burning ground you can sometimes bypass that damage altogether since if you manage to regen enough then it kicks in your ascendancy nodes and you're on full ES for 4 seconds instead of waiting forever for it to recharge.

Zealot's Oath is worth it for me since I like the way how regen feels with the ascendancy nodes. I also got this enchant which is pretty OP.



If you are wanting more life regen, you need to scale it and I'm aware this is an issue. There are 3 nodes just above the crit nodes that you go to in shadow area called Growth and Decay. These are the best value nodes in the top half of the tree giving you 2% life regen (which is huge) for 3 skill points. I planned on grabbing this after level 90.

However, before ascendancy I did also think that Zealot's Oath didn't do enough for the build for the skill tree investment and also adding another mod to your gear that you couldn't afford. Stone golem and the ascendancy nodes changed my mind, but you can just do what I did before. Use Ice golem if you don't want to use stone, the extra 1% crit will do more damage for you than a flame golem despite your tooltip (you have a higher crit multi, you crit more, you do more damage) and chaos golem would be the way to go for more defense but I'd use Ice golem if you're 80+. I did find the need to give this more links to do the same thing as stone golem though.

With stone golem I could get away with just Stone golem > Minion Life.

With Ice you'll need to add Minion Speed or Minion Elemental Resistances, or both.

Updated main post with revised build since I was informed you could save a point on the way to Deep Thoughts.

Also added a levelling guide to around 60ish designed before CI.

Now level 90, #82 Occultist in HCP.

Hey, love this build. I have some questions :)

1) Have you tried using faster projectiles / elemental focus instead of cold penetration and why have you chosen it instead?

2) I had few ideas to modify your skill tree:

- Why not go down to scion's tree and pick up "Foresight" + "Path of the Savant" + "Harrier" + "True Strik" ? I think it's pretty efficient.

- Another idea is to pick up "Retribution" next to templar and go down for "Sancity" picking up life reg and cast speed / energy shield.

- And at least i've found this jewel called "Energy from within". It grants you 12% increased ES and makes %increased life nodes transfer to %es nodes. So i've thought it would be a good idea puting it near "Melding" right of the witch tree. It would allow me to take 40% increased ES in 4 points.
