LA + GMP hits (most optimally) 5 people and then jumps to 3 nearby enemies. If you add 2 additional chains to that, it becomes much stronger than a 50% chance for arrows to hit another target.

This is definitely true, but I think it comes down to personal preference and how much damage you are doing with Chain in your links.

With Chain, I was only around 20K DPS (with golem/auras only). In higher tier maps, this was not enough to one-shot packs. A 20/20 Chain is still 31% less damage and quality does not help us much as it's only projectile speed. However, a 20/20 Pierce provides 29% more damage and quality gives another 10% increased projectile damage. Switching to Pierce gave me a nearly 10K sheet DPS boost.

Now, again, this is personal preference - some of you are going to have enough damage with your gear/tree that the less modifier from Chain doesn't impact you much, and you will clear faster with it as a result. However, for me, because I was slightly more defensive-minded with my tree choices (I don't trust my skill to avoid getting one-shot in higher tier maps), Pierce has proven to be just as effective in terms of clear speed, and often even more so because it mows down the first line of enemies much more reliably.

All of this results in far fewer melee enemies sprinting into my face, and still plenty of the 2nd and 3rd wave of enemies getting cleared from the piercing as well. Plus, we still get the lightning strikes even if the arrow doesn't pierce, so plenty of enemies take damage on a single volley. It's not as many as Chain of course, but overall with the higher damage I've found it more effective for my tree, gear, and playstyle combination.

Or have the best of both worlds and pick up Ricochet in the Ascendency and use the Pierce gem. I'm trying to decide what to swap the Chain gem out for. Right now Increased Critical Strikes is looking pretty good since it adds about 20% crit chance, but Pierce could be a good option with the more multiplier.

For those who went Ricochet, has anyone thought of taking Powerful Precision as their 3rd node and using it in conjunction with the Pierce gem? It seems like a pretty powerful combination since the gem would be a more multiplier with 50-150% increased crit chance, in addition to the pierce effect. It seems more useful than getting Far Shot or Sharp and Venomous.
Quick question: I was playing raider with a normal phys lighting build, should I change to deadeye now that I've got the voltaxic setup?
Finally 6 Linked my voltaxic and it gave me a DPS increase of 10 000 without charges. With full buffs I can hit over 130 000 DPS on LA now. Insane. Took me about 14 ex in fusings, and it was about 12 ex to buy a similar 350 DPS one.

I know, I was asking if it was worth it or not, been reading a lot of the thread and I can't seem to find a definite deadeye setup (and I don't want to make those 30 regrets 40)

Well if you lack of dps, deadeye is best choice.
Imho Onslaught buff to defensive and offesnive power is more balanced.

What are your goals for the build? If you just want to map effectively, Raider is fine. If you want to do Uber Atziri, Deadeye is probably a stronger choice. Tougher to keep up the "on-kill" status needed by Raider. Ricochet and Far Shot make for a very powerful combo.
