[edit2] Someone posted on global in legacy earlier that normal, magic, rare ring/amulet type yields an alchemy orb from the vendor. Checked it myself and it is true (i checked with gold ring).

This was a bug and is fixed. There is still a recipe for that, but it's not quite the same as the one listed.

QUOTED FROM BETA MANIFESTO:
Some example recipes (these are just made up on the spot, and are not actual ones from the testing copy):

-hand in two magic (blue) items for an identification scroll
-hand in a quality=20 weapon for a whetstone
-hand in six rare items for a chaos sphere
-bring a specific NPC a magic version of each dagger base type in return for a high-ish level currency item

These recipes allow people to offload their junk, upgrade some certain types of existing currency items, and collect sets of arbitrary items to get rewards. It’ll encourage trading (for the missing pieces of sets), and the information disparity will reward players who discover new recipes. We intend to change the recipes available at each NPC over time.

This whole system I think is not the best one to say the least. 20 weapons for a whetstone for example, in about 2-4 zones I will have enough to trade for 1 stone? Yes I know MF, quantity etc. The reason I say this is because you can't hold that many weapons, not even mentioning the other things you want to collect for other currencies and there's lots to be had. So at the end each zone or in the middle of a zone for most cases sometimes more, I'm forced to go back to town, stash or sell? Most likely stash because I don't have the right combinations and have to repeat this for every currency in the game...And for the "chance" at getting the right combinations of items for my desired/needed currency??

Also with these "secret" recipes you're wanting a player to take a chance and more than likely lose out because they're "secret" on possible better combinations for the desired /needed currency? Yes, people will find out the combos, and vendors and they will be listed somewhere on the web, but why take away from the game to learn these "secret" combos and such?

Is the whole point of this system to make the currencies even more sought after and valuable? Do you really expect people to trade loot for combinations and keep these possible match making items in their stash instead of items they want to use for alts, other possible gear sets for specs etc.

I think this system in its current state really takes away from the fun of your game and adds a whole other unnecessary feel to this side of it and make it not enjoyable.

It's not 20 weapons, it is a (single) quality=20 weapon. In Diablo 2 terms, it would be a +20% enhanced damage superior weapon.

Yup my bad on the interpretation of that. It still doesn't change my view on the whole system, and it's obvious downsides. You still need to collect loot that takes up WAY more space than you get in return for their "secret" rewards.

Does increasing the size of our inventory (stash, maybe too?) help alleviate the problem so we're able to collect enough of the proper and best items for combinations to get the currency we need want? If not we're still left porting to sell and stash several times in a zone.

Look at it this way, before you saw an orb of pretty much anything or scroll you picked it up, they only take one cube. Now you are limited by the room you have and the combinations you are able to make to get these currencies. Essentially if you don't have room in your inventory or are not lucky enough to get the proper or "secret" combinations (lol trading) you're in reality leaving these orbs and scrolls on the ground that are the currency in its current form.

Use the 6 rare items for a chaos sphere example. For ONE chaos sphere !! You cant fit 6 weapons and armor in your inventory. Ok, you might I haven't tested but that still leaves you with little to no room for anything else to get other currencies you might need/want. That leaves you to item stashing in your stash with repeated trips to town mid instance more than likely, taking away space from your stash and also removing you from the GAME to play a side game of Path of Exile banking and inventory management...Not fun IMO. Just bring back the currency drops already.
5 identified magic rings of the same type = 1 unidentified magic ring

That's such a copout. Playing the game is optional too but we're all here to give our input to try and make the game better.
The nerfs will continue until morale improves.
Killing monters is optional too lol.

The "it is optional" is most reused phrase used in defend the "not so fun" vendor system. It also compeletely not true.

Optional...Really? That's the best explanation you can come up with for the defense of a screwed up currency, inventory and "crafting (lol)" system? You must be buddies with Whiteboy88 there in alpha, you sound just like him.
