Well, it's a mixed thing. What happened in Iran was certainly US fault, the place was becoming liberal before the revolution.

Also, protecting Saudi Arabia allowed them to finance Salafism and the like.

I'm not saying to blame the west for all ME's ills, but there is some shared guilt.

You are right. Afghanistan was also more liberal, until US & Paki started the fight against Soviet influence, by directly supporting the islamists "mujahideen". Hmmm, dejavu... The same shit is happening right now in Syria.

The US and some EU countries are helping to create a total mess out of ME in the last decade, helping salafi/wahhabi islamists into power everywhere: Libya, Syria, Yemen,... ok not everywhere, there's brutal secular dicatators that are still our best buddies and untouchable, like the regime in Egypt ;)

Saudi Arabia has our politicians by the balls. Dem oil $$$ dont stink. That's why out of the US presidential candidates I hate Hillary the most - she's a Saudi wh**e, like Obama.

Have you seen that guy Erdogan? It's going the same dark path...I'm not sure how overcrowded is ok, specially when you hear stuff like people being in the streets (that means, Turkey has not enough manpower for that).

Yea, Erdo has gone full Sultan mode. But consider this: Turkey is begging EU for money to help refugees, while simultaneously fueling the war in Syria (they even deal with al-Qaeda affiliates) AND waging war on the Kurds inside Turkey. They have the money and manpower, they are just spending most of it on war. Turkey is part of the refugee problem.

Then, as I said, there's a bunch of Muslim / Arab countries who arent helping with the refugee crisis at all. Among them the big players in the war itself: Saudi & Iran.

What’s a European Liberal to Do?

The answer is: stop listening to regressive cultural relativists and stand up for the values liberals are supposed to fight for.

While women in Iran are fighting the theocratic regime to remove the veil, some "liberals" in EU are fighting to promote these practices, lol.

I grew up in a community where The Veil was a thing, but it wasn't taken very seriously, at least not by most. Like, how Jewish is Jerry Seinfeld, and how Christian is your typical US Christian? Not very; very few go full Orthodox. So in Michigan I saw veils that covered the whole face except for the eyes, veils that covered the hair but not the face, and veils that covered about as much as baseball caps on young ladies in full makeup with their hair did. And of course there were teenage girls in my high school claiming Muslim without wearing the veil at all.

So it is in a culture which mostly shares a common religion (I figure my high school was about 60% Muslim), but allows each person control over how much they follow it.

My point was that there is not a lot of consensus about what to do or how they think, for many valid (or not) reasons.

I mean, even if you don't believe in the idea of western culture being superior to the rest, it doesn't mean that every culture is equal or that there are not things that suck in them.

¯\_(ツ)_/¯

GGG banning all political discussion shortly after getting acquired by China is a weird coincidence.
Regarding North Carolina:

A law regarding bathrooms (or anyplace else) in state-owned, public buildings is one thing, a law for bathrooms in privately owned buildings is another, and a law passed, at the state level, regarding city-owned buildings is yet another.

First, it shouldn't be any government's place to say how a private place of business maintains its restrooms. A law requiring private businesses to do things a certain way is wrong. This means BOTH the Charlotte law and the North Carolina law are, for the most part, wrong.

The state doesn't own city buildings, the city does, and the city should be able to make rules for its own publicly-held property. Therefore, the portion of the Charlotte law which would apply to public buildings should be upheld, and the state law should not apply there.

The only thing left would be state property, for which I imagine the state law should apply.

Generally speaking, however, the actions of the North Carolina legislature represent the most petty form of politics, attempting to override a valid local decision with the sheer raw audacity that a bigger government knows better than a local one.

A deal in which Kasich does not compete in Indiana, in return for which consideration, Cruz will back out of Oregon and New Mexico?

To begin with, the Cruz/Kasich voters in the effected states should be HOPPING MAD! They’ve just been told that THEIR votes don’t count!

More than that, Oregon and New Mexico come AFTER Indiana. How stupid does Kasich have to be to trust Cruz not to renege on their deal? =0[.]o=
