PoE 1 PC servers are restarting in: .
They should be back up in approximately .PoE's performance is poor for a lot of people
Guess main issue with gfx in D2 was resolution. There was also game called Divine Divinity. It was still based on spirits and it's sequel used 3D gfx - guess which one was more popular and memorable? Look on Minecraft or Neverwinter Nights, if you have good game concept (like PoE), you don't need mind (or GPU) blowing gfx. As a matter of fact pro gamers often use simplified gfx settings over flashy gfx in order to see more. Sure, look of your skeleton in dark etc is cool but you won't notice that during fight. However you will notice fps drops during fight that's for sure.

The crazy thing is that the beta was buttery smooth for me, even lockstep worked pretty well. As soon as 2.0 hits, my frames and latency are all over the place. Even playing with 100 texture quality and vanilla cyclone I get ping spikes and frame lags which never happened in 3 years of playing the game.

My PC might not be THE godly gaming gear - I5 3470 at 3.2GHz, HD 7970, 8GB RAM (cant remember specs, lol) and the only game that gave me issues so far is PoE. Granted, I dont play THE newest games, but I can play stuff like DOTA 2, CS:GO, Bioshock Infinite, Battlefield 3, Crysis 2, Borderlands 2 and some other on ultra with stable 60 FPS.
I can run modded Skyrim just fine as well. I dont use that many mods (mostly due to area loading time since I have no SSD, plus Im lazy in finding proper good mods) but I can run 4k textures, model overhauls and few others at stable 60. Meanwhile in PoE all it takes for my PC to start sweating is a high level incinerator in my party or frozen ground/desecrated ground (those seem to be particulary nasty in certain tile setups, like, I can run frozen ground in some maps just fine, and on others they give me 10 fps. TEN. FPS. And Im not even running PoE on ultra :| Ive disabled post processing (which makes game look way uglier, but ugh.), switched filtering to trilinear. Gonna try switching shadows from high to low, see if that helps. But Ive got the feeling that its neither my PC nor the drivers that are at fault here. I agree with whoever said 'go easy on content, fix the engine instead', as no matter how good the content is if you can enjoy it with smooth gameplay. Considering my PC isnt the worst and yet Im forced to play on medium without post processing makes me think about all the people with worse PC that cant run the game at all. Some feedback from the devs would be nice here, as this thread DEFINETELY deserves some. |

Since it will have an nvidia card, I'll be interested to see if the problems I've been seeing replicate on that machine. PoE and AMD drivers haven't gotten along in the past. I wonder if this is less a problem with nvidia. To the above. For me, personally, I don't notice much difference between lockstep and predictive when it comes to fps. "I would have listened... Have you removed Asus ROG/GameFirst yet? |

I'll just post this to sum it all up for those that were not here since the beta.
In beta I had a spare media desktop that I used for work (data entry) and playing movies on a old tv (s-video!). It had 2 gb ddr2 ram (333mhz), a slow 15 mb/sec 40gb hard drive (IDE), pentium 4 2.4 ghz cpu and a nvidia 6200. Basically a toaster... and it broke 50 fps. It likely wouldn't even be able to load the title screen now. And yes, it was a old pc even back then... but when you have a PC you use for work and it's all setup it's kind of hard to get yourself to move to something new when your don't critically need to (or really couldn't at that time, since the programs I needed could not be used in a newer OS). I've upgraded it all since then immensely. And no, that wasn't my gaming pc... I was just screwing around when I was supposed to be working. Just tried it today on systems with better specs after being away for months (last played before atziri was made)... and it's gotten far, far, far, far worse. My current work pcs in a map are slideshows despite being above the recommended stats by quite a bit (and a immense magnitude stronger that then old pc! Weakest card I have now is 20x that old card). edit - and on the SSD issue... wheter it loads constantly is not an issue as much as that it can only perform one task at a time and must wait for that task to complete entirely. The loading is on the fly, as it's needed and it's all inside of one giant compressed file. Open that box, and until your PC opens that main client file and loads the needed assets... you are frozen client side (0 fps) while the server mobs wail on you.
