he has more hp than atziri.

a character that takes five seconds for dominus will still need 2 minutes for malachai
My reaction was exactly the same..I will never do him again because the fight is so long, so frustrating and ultimately not rewarding at all. The ending is totally anticlimactic and you dont even get a freaking reward for it.

It took me nearly 19 minutes to kill him as a 2h melee. I died once due to several mechanics aligning to a deadly spike--being cornered by red circle of death, bombed by 3-piece lob and escaping his tentacle AOE while passing through mines into red bolts all in a matter of 2 seconds.

First phase of the fight is very annoying, Piety mechanic is very punishing for melee. Second phase was better but there is a lot of shit going one, which often forced me to just run around like a headless chicken without even a thought to attack Malachai.

On the upside, I survived being clipped his slam. I also realized that best time to damage him is when he is submerging for his teleport slam, since it gave me 2 or 3 second opportunity window to attack him.
I haven't done merciless Malachai, and I most likely never will...

The last half of act 4 after the crystal veins is intensely boring... just a sequence of 8 very similar cage fights without much in-between...

Daresso and Kaom at least have a little bit of content leading up to them, but killing Piety yet again is not needed, nor are the three before Malachai, and Malachai himself could be reduced to one fight.

If they cut out those 5 fights, it'd be, well, not more 'enjoyable', but less of a PITA...

yeah it is kind of silly, even if he had super drops (which he does not) he would be the least efficient boss to farm in the history of poe .

plus he moves around and his arena is tiny ao not much chance for a culler to be consistently safe which is kind of a mandatory requirement for serious boss farming anyway.

i dont quite mind the 3 you need to kill before malachai since they die reasonably quick and have respectable drops for what they are.

they dont hold a candle to the daresso three, but then again the daresso three aren't exactly easy to cull with their wildly different movement behaviors.

My thoughts exactly. Never again will I do Malachi in Merciless!

NEVER!

I hope so. I've been having a bad PoE day, dying all over the place in maps from crazy monster damage (using evasion and es builds), so I'm just getting salty about the game's difficulty in 2.0.

GGG wanted to please the most masochistic hardcore players, and they did. I have a feeling, however, that their overall player numbers will start to drop. I'm curious how Tempest players are faring in maps, and which builds are being culled out as useless now.

It does seem like a lot of the changes made to the core game with 2.0 were to please those masochistic "PoE is too easy" hardcore players. I've played other games where the Devs catered to those kinds of players and basically ruined those games by making only 3-4 builds viable for "end game" content.

Sure there are literally 100's of possible builds but if you don't stick to just a handful of viable ones you're going to have a bad experience.

If GGG continues to go down this road I will be jumping ship to another game. I only became an Awakening supporter in order to get a Beta key because I was excited for the new content and to support GGG but I've been disappointed with what we have now.

Of course the hardcore folks are quick to say "don't let the door hit you on the way out!" but are there enough of those hardcore people in order to support PoE? Again, in my experience with other games the answer has been NO.

If Malachai would drop / grant something special, then i'm sure more people would attempt Malachai on Merciless.

Me too. I can put my videos from my chars taking more time to kill him than killing atziri.
Now, I cant find a single malachai fight on youtube that is fast.

And yeah I have an srs which usually destroy bosses and she still takes a little more time to kill him than while doing atziri. He is in the middle of the road between Normal and Über, the difference is the fun while doing it. (Atziri = Fun)

And you can do atziri deathless (or should I say "Could", I guess?), with A LOT of different builds. I bet there are like, maximum a handful of builds that can do easily deathless merc. malachai right now.
