The forums aren't fun anymore

...and... werent you a moderator? or am I confusing you with someone else?

I was one of the original cadre of player Moderators recruited during CB, before GGG set up an in-house moderation team, and we were retired from active duty. There was a long time during which we retained our Moderator tags, but it apparently caused a little too much confusion about our role on the forum, and GGG removed the tags a few weeks ago.

Would've been nice to have had a replacement tag, like "former forum mod," or some such, but no biggie. =^[.]^=

They (GGG) should definitely work on optimizing the rules and how they are applied.

We are working on optimizing both of these things. There are a few rules in the new guidelines that aren't working as intended. We'll be working on either removing or rewording the ones that aren't doing what they should. - Illegal Content/Non-Constructive Feedback are the first two that I'll look at.

You should never be probated without being told why.

I agree. In our internal guidelines there's a big emphasis on making sure that when a player receives moderation action they also receive adequate information about the removal to be able to understand why it was removed and how they can avoid it next time.

I have an example where GGG ban person using this part of TOS, if you ask support why - you get answer like: TOS was breached. You may ask "which exact part of TOS?", answer was - "we could not tell you since this way ppl may avoid ban next time". Sounds pretty silly, but this is exactly what nait expressed with his puppet analogy, but GGG use it on daily basis :)

It's true that we don't do this for banned accounts as the information we provide can be used to circumvent our detection methods. However, the opposite is true in regards to forum posts. We want people to avoid being probated in future.

We should all just abandon this forum together as a stand against the oppression. There is clearly no difference for GGG between censorship and freedom of speech. This is forum moderation gone wrong.

If you find that this system is breaking down, I'm keen to hear from you with specific examples. Speculation can be good for knowing the general concerns and worries of the community, but in order to push for actual change, being linked to examples and specific cases is more valuable.

We are listening, and we're keen to get these Forum Guidelines to set in a good and comfortable place for the community as a whole. They're not quite there yet, but I'm finding the general "The sky is falling!" posts without any link to an actual event unhelpful in getting to the cause of the issue and being able to make the appropriate changes.

Thanks Bex. I really wish you good luck!

Have you thought about a round table between users and the moderation team? Or something comparable? I have the feeling that right now you only get (very direct^^) user-feedback when the things are already ... complicated. Btw.: It would be nice if people on probation could still use the PM-function only to contact support.

And yeah, the sky is not falling. But i have to say that it would have been really good if you would have FIRST thrown light on the Gauls BEFORE hitting the big fat drum (that was a little bit untuned also).
The Sirus fight is a disgrace.

How can we link to anything if all we get is "post removed" in a PM and no way of linking the original supposedly offensive or nonconforming post?
?
I've heard you abandoned these forums, haven't you? :V

My last probation was a 24h one, without any posts being removed, or reason why (or what for) I got probated. This is the worst.
Real knowledge is to know the extent of one's ignorance.
Ignorance more frequently begets confidence than does knowledge.

I'd imagine it feels similar to operating a daycare business.

Protip: that's Dirk.
GGG banning all political discussion shortly after getting acquired by China is a weird coincidence.
