Item Development - Information

You know for once I'm not excited about an upcoming unique, for the sole reason that they are introducing an exclusive skill tied to a unique item.

The icon on middle mouse is chaos golem right ?
Maker of ZeeL's Amplifier.
Wow, surprised at some of the backlash here. To me this just opens a new branch of potentially great itemization. And if it fails for some reason? Big deal, won't be the first unique item that ended up as vendor food or got nerfed till it was vendor food.

ensuring players have the right amount of information

good. now what about adding "TO ATTACKS" to the "Adds x-y dmg" item mod? imho it is one of the most confusing and incomplete piece of info for new players out there. never figured out the reasoning for not making it clear.

Listen to this guy.

Most of my friends I introduced to the game and got an item with +damage on it (mostly rings or amulets) thought it applies to spells and were very disappointed when I told them it doesn't. If it said "Adds x+y physical damage to (melee) attacks" this wouldn't be a problem. Simple as that. This is also true for Iron Rings. A NEW player could assume it works with EK since that's a physical spell ...

Is that really needed? Do you know any ARPG where you don't have to check forums and/or wikis if you really want to min-max? The difference between INCREASED and MORE alone forces anyone to read the wiki, so why even bother decreasing the amount you have to look up?

What's your experience in your group of friends? Among me and my friends I am the only that actually wants to min-max, and everyone justs asks me to have a look at their tree, or how specific mechanics work.

In my oppinion it's not worth it to try to make PoE self-explanatory as it is already way to complex and somewhat hidden.
Perception is reality.
Next thing we will see added are support skills only available on unique items... Just imagine, spell echo only being available on that staff.
GGG listens to its fans!!! Thank you!
Why does it have to reference the skill level? I think that's the part that's really going to throw people assuming it's weak.

When I first read the item's properties before reading the discussion points, I just assumed there's so many skills in POE there must have been an Ice Storm skill in there somewhere that I just couldn't remember. I wasn't even clued in that this was a unique skill to the staff. I think the level number was the part that made me comfortable with my initial assessment, like there's nothing more to know about it because I know what level 1 skills are like, and I don't recognize that one so it's probably one of the numerous ones that aren't any good in the first place (like Shock Nova), and that's why I didn't recognize it.

I think a better tooltip would be something like
"Grants the unique skill Ice Storm"
Dam, Charan on fire tonight, laying the smack down.

Dark_Chicken - lvl 100 Marauder
Divine_Chicken - lvl 100 Duelist
I think it's really cool. There are always going to be new skills added. There's no reason to get upset that one skill was added as a special item only spell.

It may make people actually want to use different unique items if they have cool skills attached, and they can make these complement other items (such as astramentis with this staff) as it is much easier to balance.

I'm not sure how you can say I'm conservative and not embracing change when the change is a conservative, unadventurous one. Also, I introduced some pretty radical elements to the game via two uniques, and come act 4, I'm introducing even more with my third unique.

So please don't presume to lecture me on what uniques are meant to do.

Yea I saw your uniques, maybe your third will finally be useful! :)
