Because any item that isn't a build-enabling-low/mid-level (wtf is this about anyway? You can make up any build and faceroll low and mid content) item could only be a BiS item, amarite?

I only recently found out that my unique mod had to be downgraded by many orders of magnitude, because it was too "disruptive". When its initial concept was approved it was "10% less global attribute and level requirements for equipment and gems". It would have been level 25 (22) and a level 20 (68) gem would have become level 61, or level 100 equipment could be used by level 90 characters.

Although it is not as I had initially conceived it, I am none-the-less pleased with it. I was assured that it was "universally powerful" (i.e. could be used throughout the game), so if you think it is too weak, prove it and Qarl promised he would address it.

This is a much smaller version of the 16 MB version that GGG made for me, which is included in the mis-numbered 10th Diamond Newsletter. There is a tremendous amount of detail, so the other Diamond Supporters can expect much the same treatment from GGG.

83 Shadow /played 10 days 3 hours 29 mins.


Now I know why I don't play high content anymore.

My level 84 hc Templar had in cb had less playtime and maps only went to level 69.

It's obvious whoever dev that's making the uniques has a thing for bows, i remember when there was like 6 unique items, and everytime there was a patch that added uniques it had a new bow. I think at some point it felt like half of the unique items were in fact bows.

Seriously, out of all the things you could potentially make stop making more bows.

That Bow is a Laz unique. Those have genrally bad design.

Expect Moonbenders and The Soverreigns Decree released in further patches to suck too.

2. Diablo 2 was so popular because of so many good and expensive high end uniques, runewords and sets.

Oh come on 1.10 broke D2. Most runewords could never have been build even you did 300 HFQs in hell and traded at the beginning of the ladder like a lunatic.
1.09 had only 4 good runewords and one of them was almost impossible to create due Jah being needed.

D2 doesn't have any exceptional uniques/sets either!
And 1.09 had only good class sets(but aldurs),bk set, orphans call and the disciple as useable sets.
High End uniques aka elite uniques:
Harlekins Crest, Veil of Steel, Hellslayer, Messerschmidts Reaver, Lightsabre,Doombringer, GF, WF, Eagle, Wizzardspike, Nospheratus Coil, Arcaines, Gladiators Bane, Stormshield, Blackoakshield, Baranars, Shaefers Hammer, Cranium Basher, Stormspire.

Even in 1.09 times only half of them made it to builds.
Veil of Steel, Gladiators Bane and Blackoakshield were well designed uniques but they were underrated because they didn't have the stats others had or had too high requirements.

Most of the 1.10 uniques were useless or got outclassed by those highrunewords.

I remember a time Collossos Blades needed 225 Str and 110 Dex aka around 50 points more than after 1.09.
Others were considered too slow. Guess while Thicket bows are popular but Harbringer and Citadel aren't.

3. Just have a look in the market. I cannot even sell one of my "The magnate" belts and this is one of the better uniques, you actually can wear in lategame...

The magnate got nerfed after OB it doesn't change charactersize anymore :(



It's not like all uniques are bad. 2 Midnights Bargains dualwield+ low life build would be a nice creation if summons simply wouldn't suck so hard against elemental damage.

The bow is just poor design by Laz.

Hey let's create another low level form of LA with around 50 dps each hit. Instead of converting phys dmg lets create ele dmg and add some speed.
Now players can use RoA and Split arrow just like LA.-->Stormcloud is finished.

The bow enables nothing it's just have another way to do the same with other skill gems.
Also having a min damage of 1is a BIG drawback. IRC Shock nova already starts as 1-52 and nobody uses it.


In CB I would have said like 50% of all uniques got a use now I would reduce it to 40% and remove some of CB uniques too.
For example Chin Sol, Dark Scorn and infactem are far too weak to be useable anymore in OB.

Same with Rigalds and Terminus Est.
Especially latter one would be really useable if it had gotten a buff.

I can't complain about shields. The shields lack some stats but are genrally well designed.

Helmets on the other side meh.

Or other uniques would be so much better if they had certain stat like bramble jack offering 30% physical reduce as basis not depending on level.

Another weakness is that "Gem is supported by level x" is a major drawback because it's not by "x based on charater level"
Such tiny changes would make many uniques useable over many levels.

But most uniques are just "Use it 5 levels and throw it away"

Here is a Laz Quote which is hilarious:

"Awesome low level uniques may include Johnny uniques like Springleaf in PoE and Thinking Cap in D1."
He compared Spring leaf with Thinking Cap!
First off Spring leaf is only useable on Low Life builds because it got only 2 useable mods and(1 implicit mod). 50% Freeze Duration is useless because of flasks unfreezing.

Now what do we have with thinking cap:
2 Skill levels->Awesome remember D1 Skilllevels came from reading books.
20 Reists->Yay
some mana->Good at low levels.

Goldrim is the closest thing to be comparable with Thinking cap and it's still far inferior.

You know whats funny? In CB level 20 Gems needed level 60........
