[ LLD ] Swords are way too good compared to other melee bases
" Naw, only sharp pointy ones like a rapier, which has been shown in a practical fencing match not some Hollywood bullshit, that it is effective vs shields due to its attack motion(thrusting instead of slashing). I just don't get why this suggested nerf is necessary, doesn't seem like 1h swords are broken at all in hld, compared to 1button flicker dagger in the past. If it is indeed unbalanced then I'm all ears for it, not if it's an excuse to bump 2h builds up a notch based on personal playstyle/bias/budget*. IGN: KevShienZ

Anyways, I didn't make the thread. I never make bias threads looking for gains to my own build if anything I accept any and all nerfs and still wont change. Point was since in lld swords have a glaring advantage over other 1h weapons they will likely get nerfed to some extent. Their aps,damage and utility is imo perfectly fine. Fact they have all of this + bcr + more range then all other 1h weapons is an issue. So you either buff range of the other 1h types or ruin sword. Losing bcr doesn't ruin sword, its like "here, just take it and leave everything else alone". Id rather see it lose bcr passives then see it get raped in the ass entirely. If you read all of my posts I keep pointing this out. Paired with the obvious fact if bcr is to stay...it should go to 2h. You may not know this Kev but lld is the complete opposite of hld. In lld casters don't freely out tank,out dps melee. Melee is actually good in lld while casters are pretty realistic. I know sword nor any form of melee is strong/broken in high level. I don't want to see melee get tweaked either but it'll happen because of lld and those changes then affect hld. Making melee that much weaker in hld then it already is. As casters get better in lld, they'll get better in hld likely as well. As bows/melee get nerfed in lld, they are nerfed in hld. Dagger is the same. seriously? Stop drawing parallels between historical weapon use and in game weapon equivalents.
posting larp videos as an argument? You realise that larp has nothing to do with realistic weapon use right? You all should avoid embarrassing yourself by making arguments about how "real" swords and other weapons types work if you are going to support them by quoting movies like braveheart/vikings series etc. ps. And just to completely ignore my advice from above, ill remind you of half-swording. Its a series of techniques described in length at various manuscripts where you use a 2h sword to fight armoured opponents and exploit weaknesses in their armour(aka your block chance reduction equivalent in relation to swords). " so what in this post am I solidifying? you are using the terms 1h and 2h in relation to attack speed and way of use as if those 2 distinctions are the only differences. Weight of a person has little to do with the strength of an attack. 2h does not mean slow attacks necessarily Heavier weapons don't necessarily mean that you will get staggered. In fact you can use the strength of an incoming blow to speed up your repost. Not all shields are like the viking shields and break after a few attacks. Some can take an astonishing amount of abuse. etc etc. Whatever your (not you exclusively) suggestions for balance changes are don't try to back them up with examples from movies. Out of all the 1-handed weapon types, swords should have the lowest DPS potential IMO.
The hierarchy from highest to lowest damage potential (and the special strength of each weapon type) should be: Daggers (crit dmg) Axes (non-crit, reliable dmg) Maces (stun) Claws (leech, lol - probably should give a dual wield block bonus but I digress) Swords (block pen, attack speed, range, skill versatility... basically everything except damage!) If GGG could accomplish the above, all weapon types could be relevant in PvP! Hooray! claws have one thing going for them, its now the only way imo to make a viable pure whirling blades build reminiscent of the 1.2 days
