The main game is meant to be played like this:

1.) Play the new league, acquire wealth and fun, see how far you can go, push yourself.
2.) Wait around in dumpster league for another new league, trying weird combos and fun.
3.) Repeat. Push yourself harder next time, much fun.

Balancing the game for standard dumpster? Not going to happen.

I like the new leagues and I am excited for the changes~ Crit Multi needed a nerf, same with block, quit your crying ya babies.

What he said. Crit was over used, because crit-multi scaling was too good. Lightning Coil and Cloak of Defiance where way over used also, as was high/max block. All these things led people to bitching about Armor and Evasion.

Never be surpised when one of the top 3 used items in hardcore get nerfed... If everyone is using it, it's just too popular... GGG wants a balanced and diverse game. Sometimes they will even over-nerf, and then gradually buff back till they find the right balance.

There are only 2 constants.
1.) Change
2.) People bitching about it

buff/rework shocknova

When you hit with shock nova, Pink Frosted Donut particles should splash and hit surrounding monsters.

So much hate for this patch, hope it changes once they play it.

Ziggy made a good point that there wasnt anything really "positive" in the patch notes like a small buff to a less used skill or something to get people excited about a new build.

This is the danger with describing the key content in advance - that the 8 new gems, 26 new uniques and such are already old news when considering the balance changes. There are plenty of awesome new builds, especially now that there's more parity between them. I'm personally excited to make a level 28 Raging Spirits PvP character and a Static Strike Templar as my regular character. Seems like it'll be two Templars for me this league :P

Im just gonna copy-paste this, here:

Well, balance gated behind uniques is a bad idea. You first have to find those uniques in order for the game to be balanced? Makes no sense.
Also, your game doesnt have the reputation of being one with rewarding unique drop rates...

Secondly, we saw those counterattack gems, nothing great in terms of balancing melee as far as i can tell.
Why would i want to get hit in order to deal a little more dmg when i can deal that amount from range without ever getting hit?

Plus, how many counterattacks can i actually land, considering that most late game enemies 1-2 shot you?

So, no, we shouldn't really consider those 8 gems nor those uniques when speaking about balance.

Btw, Why you guys wont simply post the new gems/uniques along the patchnotes so we can actually plan something based on new content? I know that it would spoil the magic of finding (buying) those new uniques on your own but still, maybe its a good idea.

Awesome sauce GGG. I really like the patch as a whole. The build I'm going for in the new league got buffed due to better skill tree pathing so I'm really excited.

I think people get way too worried about the "nerfs". The balance changes weren't too drastic. Block is still very viable as an extra defensive layer. Too bad you won't be able to be nearly brain dead to pull it off now :D

Thanks for the great effort GGG. Keep them coming :)
This is funny really...same old same old. I'm reading these replies and many of them are carbon copies of all the other recent patches "I'm done after 1.5 years...". Weird how more and more people are playing PoE than ever before isn't it? No buffs only nerfs? What about the new skill gems and unique items? Some of the critique is understandable, most is just whining.

I'd LOVE to see a patch come out with no patch notes! Mystery patch!

80% less damage for CoC ... going to have to play it to see the actual impact but if 80% less damage is a small adjustment I would hate to see what a large one looks like.

CoC was one of the highest damage builds ever. This nerf is good, in endgame you will still clear with very good speed at "20%", but for casuals this is really a small adjustment as they don't have that high crit or attackspeed...
I am disappointed. There are still several skills that need some love and they have gone neglected again. The block nerf seems weird because reaching max block already requires a fairly heavy investment in the passive tree and unique items with the "% of block chance applied to spells" mods are the primary reason blocking is "too good". Why not just nerf the "% of block chance applied" stat to spells on items like Rath Pith globe?
I be that potion mixin', spell castin', dragon ridin' wizard. Got a 3 foot hat with a 6 foot beard, and it's only gettin' bigger. Put a staff up in my hand, and I'll shrink you down to size. All I need is a tail of a newt and some platypus eyes.
