A Cold Crit Witch Guide 2.0 (RE-DONE!) Check it out!
" I'm here :P Onto the build: DROP ELEMENTAL EQUILIBRIUM! I don't know why GGG decided to do it, but they made it EXTREMELY hard to read. What it says is: Enemies hit by an element get +25% resis to those elements. Second, you have a wasted int node near start of tree Third, don't try to get power charge passives. The ONLY way to actually get powerchargers is with power siphon, which you WILL NOT use. Fourth, blast radius doesn't actually help with FP or Ice spear Fifth, the points near the bottom of the tree are a waste, better used elsewhere, for for ES/Health/Crit chance. The last thing (this is my opinion): pain attunement is a risky spell to run, atleast on a witch. I haven't played a hybrid, so don't take this last tip too seriously, maybe someone else can help you out with this one. OH, you can also take a more "useful" path to nullification, taking +30 dex node and the movement speed node nearby instead. IGN-Shibloble

Thanks for that.
In regards to the wasted INT node, i was mimicking the build i have currently done in-game and i put a point there so i could branch off to something else at the start but opted for a different route. I kept it there to keep track and haven't bothered to reset it yet :P Thanks for the Elemental Equilibrium tip. Question about the blast radius passives, i'm guessing it works on spells like Firestorm and not fireball and icespear where they have an explode AOE? Those ~10 points at the bottom do look out of place and random, what i had in mind at the start was just Damage and i just figured they would help with my output. I will take note and maybe Prioritize some more Energy Shield Passives. The left and right side branches seemed to have 'better' energy shield passives so i kind of leaned that way a bit more rather than the ones near the start of the tree. Thanks for the overall tips, as i said i didn't know the effects of some spells and just made the build as a general mindset. Thanks for taking the time to look at it. As far as distribution order, should i go Cold Passives next or Critical Passives? I had Critical in mind after Cold's but i am also going to get Unnatural Calm before both of them. (Assume for arguments sake i focus one 1 Cold/Critical Circle at a time) |

" Have you tried using Cold Snap + Proliferation for your freezing needs? Very very reliable (moreso than FP, for me at least) and things do not need to be close to you before they freeze. Also, what do you think about the +15% frozen time passive nodes, up near Exploding Minions? Yes or no? Did you know level 91 is the halfway point to level 100? This means that a softcore character dying ONCE at level 85+ can lose many days of progress. Last edited by GhostlightX#1022 on Feb 20, 2013, 9:16:49 AM

" I did try that, but didn't like it for 2 reasons... first, it relies on the fact that i have it linked with elemental proliferation, otherwise it's more or less useless... It happens that i remove elemental proliferation and replace it with an additional cold pene, added chaos, added lightning etc to cater the needs of different situations...and stuff still gets very well frozen in place due to the GMP that it's linked to..and cold snap can't really cope with that. And secondly, the crit..600% increase, is 600% increase..cold snap will never match that. Too far to go for such a small bonus, and with 2. something casts/ secs on the totem, they're pretty much permafrozen anyway so for ME that's a no. OK but seems a lot of effort since you stated you need 5 Frenzy charges...I need none for the same effect (whole room frozen for as long as I need it).
In reaction to your paragraph: "I want FAST cast speed, no less than 3 FP/S, why? cause frozen monsters won't hit me..and the faster i cast, the higher chance of me freezing them before they kill me..that's why i also went for 5 frenzy charges (one from kraytin and one in the shadow area)." My equivalent would be "I dont need fast cast spped; why? frozen monsters won't hit me..and one cast of Proliferated Cold Snap every 4 seconds keeps everything frozen for as long as I wish, leaving me to do what i want." But I agree that without Proliferation it is not great. However with Concentrated Effect, it's damage is through the roof (about 4 x the DPS of Ice Spear). " Fire ball is affected by all AoE passives/abilities. Icespear is not an AoE spell at all, it's a single target spell. Crit chance is > spell damage, until you get around 30%+ crit chance on the spell, then it's up to you. IGN-Shibloble

" But for Spear, and particularly, FP, I hear all over this thread that cast speed is very beneficial just because it gets you more chances to crit, even though you might get slightly less DPS. Is this generally accepted? Or do some prefer to focus on damage and defense, and not to put points into speed? Invited to Beta 2012-03-18 / Supporter since 2012-04-08

How is faster cast speed = less dps?
The faster you cast, the more dps and crit chances. People only go no cast speed if they are noobs and run out of mana. The rest of the 'end-game' content will be available along with a heap of new stuff when the game launches in a few months time. From what I've seen it's going to be awesome. - Michael_GGG

" In order to capitalize on castspeed, you need to "channel" your spells. In most cases while playing solo this isn't easy accomplished. Cast speed inflates dps, so you can't rely on the dps number as a reliable source of information. Who cares if you cast 3 times a second if you can only cast once, then need to run. People go no cast speed if they plan on playing a kite based character. IGN-Shibloble
