[0.10.3b] What's cooler than being cool? Ice Cold Templar
" The OP is still the template for the final build, yes. The interest hasn't shifted at all during the time spent ingame at it; I was just drawn more towards the build as it was originally planned. It proved to be very effective for me. Static blows and chance to shock are not really needed... You have enough damage as it is. I would leave Static Blows to some other builds which actually utilize the Shock stacks better due to their low initial damage output. Of course, that's just me and my preferences at the moment. Life is tough... but it is tougher if you're stupid.

Currently running this build as I was running Kripps Wand Templar but decided that the gear needed was too high. I also really like running with Freeze Pulse! I decided to go with FriarJohns build though as I felt that a little more to my liking! Question though, what is better to go with? Wand or Mace or Dagger? I'm going with Wand for the time being and then switching to Dagger. Is anyone running dual wield or is it ok to run Mace/Wand and Armor/ES Shield! Is it ok to do it like that? Also what flasks are you guys going with? And how do I craft those particular flasks? Is is just getting quality to 20% and then using chaos orbs on them? Sorry, still new to the crafting aspect of this!

Since I started to follow up and play this build also , so I would like to post my progression if is ok for Venator :)
Main skills : freezing pulse/ice spear and ice nova sometimes Totem : Ice spear Gear .....still too crap to post it , but I use mainly wand/shield level48 ...actual passive tree http://www.pathofexile.com/passive-skill-tree/AAAAAgUABAcFWxBpEVAUTRdUGmwfAiKBLR8wlzbFOYo74UbXTLNWSl3GYG1mT20ZfVN_xoFJgpuDOIt6i4yOPI5kj0aVBJ2Ana6eoaIAoqOnCKcrr5uyOLUEtoa2-rvWwfPYJN0F3fPhc-L35CLtIPem At this stage the only little problem I have is mana reg/pool and due to crap gear ...low defence (armor) , but so far I only died 3 times and that totem with ice spear is quite OP. I'm thinking now to grab some mana nodes at the witch starting point , than grab nodes for the ES and before go to CI increase spell power and armor. Hey, I'm using a modified version of this build relying on a lot of crits and I was wondering which setup would be best between those 2 :
- Use frostbite on ennemies, support skills with enhanced crit chance and damage. - Use critical weakness on ennemies, support skills with cold penetration. The goal is basically the same but the first option takes an additional gem slot. Any thoughts on the matter ? |

Is this build as viable when starting as a witch class?
also i am new to ES builds, how does this build survive without leeching? and how do you survive early game with no life or es nodes for a while? Last edited by F1aws#5476 on Feb 16, 2013, 5:08:20 PM

Guys, have you a mana problems using this build?

" Im only able to run 2 aura's at the moment and still barely have enough for freezing pulse! I'm at level 42 in Act 1 in cruel atm. But I'm confident once I get some decent gear I'll be able to run 3 or 4. I'm having a lot of fun with this class and build though. |

First of all I would like to thank the OP this was my first character and first build that made it possible to move to what I am using now. However using the build moving into merc seemed a bit gimped to me (maybe its my play style, who knows). I liked the survivability of the first build early in the game because for the most part nothing could get through the energy shield and your fairly untouchable. However as I moved into the later acts and difficulties I ran into chaos, puncture, and poison mobs. All of which have dmg that by-passes the energy shield all together. With this happening the 2500 ES I had became rather worthless. Therefor I tweaked the build and came up with a high life, fairly high ES build with constant dmg instead of a crit build.
Instead of taking all of the armor and energy shield nodes I switched to the life nodes, which effectively raised my Health pool by about 1000-1200. You may ask how the h**l is the health so low. Well in the original build there are no health nodes used which means most the health that is obtained is done through items and "level stat increase". Those two do not equate to that much of a health pool which is a deadly mistake in merciless. The dmg nodes taken in the first build are straight cold damage, and crit with some mana nodes in there as well for the regen and pool. I liked this for the most part however I dont like using a crit build so I moved to a more straight forward constant dmg build which includes a ton of mana regen and a decent mana pool. Instead of taking the crit nodes I took cold damage, cast speed and put the extra points into defensive nodes (life, resist etc.) To give you an idea of my build here is my skill tree: http://www.pathofexile.com/passive-skill-tree/AAAAAgUAAuMEswVbB6UQaRFQFE0VUBbzF1QZhRo4Gmwc3B8CIoEkPCSqJjwpTyycLUcvnTCXMYg2xTbpOYo74UbXSVFJsk1BUEJVxlZKWmtdxmBtZp5r220Zc1Nzs3kDfVN-WX_GghCCm4M4i4yMNo48j0aQVZUEnYCdrp6hogCio6cIpyunXKeEr5u1BLvWvHnAVMHFwfPDbc9l0NDYJNrd3fPfsOFz4vfjauQi7BjsOO0g8B_60g== When you look at this tree there are a few spots that some people will be thinking wtf are you thinking using that skill or using that node. I will explain all of this. First of all some of the nodes that I have that aren't "completed" are done so on purpose. With the skill tree being so big there is no reason to spend meaningless points in spots where they can be spent in something much much more valuable. An example would be taking the 7% mana reduction of spell costs, but not the 3%. The 3% that is taken can be applied to help reach a tree that includes mana regen and + max mana. Small things like this can make the biggest difference in your build and the amount of high quality nodes you can touch. The same thing goes for the life node at the top where I stopped after the 18% life and didn't take the 8%. The reasoning behind this is why not use that one point to move farther down the tree to a spot that has more life nodes closer together, or directly into cold dmg or cast speed. The last and final spot on the tree I will explain is the "Lord of the dead" this node at first seems completely ridiculous to take however the nodes that I would of taken to get across the map are 3 of the +10 intellect. Now directly to the right of Lord of the Dead are maximum mana and mana regen. I would rather spend the 1 point in this pointless node and add the 2 left over points into nodes that scale with level and gear. I havent filled out that area but I plan on it later in game. At this point I have no issues with mana I have done the basic test of this build and it allows me to cast Freezing Pulse 66 times before I am below *half* mana with faster projectile and Lesser Multiple Projectile attached to it. It also allows me to cast Ice Spear 51 times before I am completely out of mana. This by the way is casting without a break its completely constant. The final subject area of this post will be skill gems and how I am using them. -The first gem I use which I think everyone does is Freezing Pulse, Quality 0%. •1278.3 dps •.45 sec cast time. •2.22 casts per second. •54% projectile speed. -Second I use Ice spear which is another massively used skill for frost, Quality 10%. •801.4 dps •.59 sec cast time. •1.69 casts per second. •84% projectile speed. -I also use Coldsnap which I don't see a lot of people using. This move with Elemental proliferation is one of the most Over-Powered moves in the game imo. The move with the support gem is a minimum 2 second freeze which correctly timed can give 2 freezing pulses off for the kill shot. •1399.4 dps •.61 sec cast time. (this does have a cooldown on it) -The biggest contributing factor to this build is my last gem; Clarity (mana regeneration). I have attached to this gem a reduced mana gem which reduces the amount of mana reserved. •189 mana reserved (Reduced mana level 12) •10.7 mana per second I hope this has helped you out in regards of how to spend your points inside the passive tree, and given you some ideas on how to continue your adventure in Path of Exile. |

Cheers for the build OP, have been following it all the way.
Currently sat in Act 3 Merc with the following: " True to the original build and alot of fun to play with. For those wanting to follow a similar sort of progression, I have only just taken CI with 2k sheild and roughly 55% in all resistances. I am however, using reduced mana with my auras and freezing pulse. I could probably take the reduced mana off the freezing pulse but I'm quite happy with the way my mana is working at the moment, of course with the combination of using spell totem and frostbite, and I had a red socket available. DPS on Freezing pulse is currently around 900 (currently leveling a quality FP) and is pretty much destroying the majority of the mobs as it stands. When used in conjuction with an ice speared spell totem, white mobs don't even get near me, blue mobs drop fairly quickly, as do yellow mobs. My only frustration is frost mobs, which cripple this build somewhat. Especially in Merc, since they will destroy your totem within seconds. So you need to use your spell totem and freezing pulse quite wisely to take them down. Other than that you will destroy mobs. This build is amazing, so cheers again to the OP. Best build I've played yet! |
