Pay much? I guess, itemization and respeccing is what you are aiming at. Respeccing you can count on having to use all 18 free respec points, and if you're playing HC, some Regret orbs as well. Itemization wise, just like any other build, good gear will make the build shine, bad gear will make the player whine. There is no such thing like an item independent build, really. Even spork-totemancer needs good gear to truly shine.

I've been using this build for a while now (the old ice cold templar build, and now this one, that is), and I have a few questions.

What is your opinion about using Rime Gaze?
And to be more specific, the 50% reduce ES recovery from it.

Is increased energy shield recovery that needed with ghost reaver?


And could you tell me something about your current stats as a templar? (ES/dmg/mana etc..)

I would only take Rime Gaze in case I dropped it, and I would only use it for a while until a better rare helm is acquired.

My current stats can not be told since I am not currently playing this character! I am currently developing and playing a pretty unique ranger build. A friend of mine is playing with this build though, he is currently level 73 in HC, and says he's doing well. I don't know his stats though.

Hey I am following this build and was wondering about the +cold damage passives. It seems counter intuitive to not add into those nodes. Are they not as good for damage as they seem? Thanks!

They are not as good because you need to invest too many points to get them, and they are mostly simply less efficient than other nodes. Taking any cold damage % nodes means having to sacrifice something else. Would you sacrifice your survivability or crit chance for extra cold damage? The trade is not worth it, in my opinion. You get all the damage you need from items.

My build has a few similarities... I opted not to go for CI, but if I stack up enough respec points to grab it AND all the shield points, I might. I try to get out of the fight if my shield goes down anyway, so it won't be much different...

One thing I did notice that's very different from mine is that this build misses a lot of extra cold damage - about 48%. To the top left of the witch starting point, you see Frost Walker and the cold node above that. I took those, as well as following along to the right, above Deep Wisdom, I took the two cold damage nodes and then Heart of Ice.

I have more cold damage% bonuses, but not as many +crit nodes.

I might try to swap for a few crit nodes and see how it works out.
