I leveled with Vis Mortis from 94-95 in 1.1.5. The basic point is that only the skull that gets the kill gets unholy might for the rest of its lifetime. Thus, it doesn't really add much to your overall DPS at all. You lose too much EHP compared to a rare armor.

+1 Gems is a prefix, as is +2 Fire. A magic item can have only 1 prefix and 1 suffix, whereas a rare item can have 3 prefixes and 3 suffixes.

Mana reg is a suffix, +1 and +2 are prefixes. You should trans/alt +1 and regal +2. Unless you're going for a perfect craft don't try to get +1 and a good suffix.

I wondered if anyone could help.

So im trying to cast a staff. ATM it is +2 fire/18% haste/39 int. Its got 2 prefixs and one suffix open. Should i bother trying to eternal/exalt it? Whats the chances of getting a +1 gems on it?

I know there are 17 prefixes on a staff. So is it a 1/16 chance to get it given it rolls a prefix? Or does the game use a different distribution?

Since the affixes don't have equal probability, getting +1 gems is much worse than 1/16. I believe the only time you want to et/ex a 2-affix staff is if you hit double +1 gems and a T1 suffix like mana regen, chaos res, or faster cast. I had a 2 free suffix staff and didn't hit mana regen, or cast speed in like 15 et/ex.

It's more like 1/200 or 1/250 for +1. So totally a bad idea to try to get it with exalts.


I got a question about map bosses.
I can totally clear all maps up to 75ish with ease, kinda fast and with almost 0 chances of dying now that i added the immortal call combo.
However, i can't manage to pull off most of the closed room bosses.
I mean brutus, merveil, dominus, shock and horror, didn't try the jungle valley one lately but i feel it will be the same shit. Only one i pulled off was sallazang.
Vaal skeletons is not enough to distract them if they have aoe, my level 19 zombies get shred very fast and i don't think it will be very different with level 20 even if i get +2 helm.
So i end up needing to run around trying to still cast a few raging spirit while dodging shit. And most of the time the few raging spirits i manage to cast are distracted by the mobs popping, the flying swords or whatever.
Vaal haste helps but not enough.

Should i really skip all thoses bosses?
Is it really a gear check and the solution is to take them down in 3s or is there some mechanics i'm doing wrong?

Got my hands on a +3 staff, but after 200 fus, still not 5l, so i'm still playing with a 5l +1.

I was having a hell of a time with brutus/merveil for a while. Once i got to a certain damage point i was able to do merveil with Vhaste up, you really gotta make sure you have good cold res too vs her.

The trick i figured out on brutus is: In his room there are small cells on each side, just go into one of the cells and then pop your vhaste and start spamming skulls as he trys to come in. Should be able to take him down like that, least it worked good for me.

Haven't tried shock and horror or dominus solo yet so can't offer any advice there.
@squirrels: Not sure what you're talking about. First of all you're running zombies, so you're missing an aura or a curse or even more. Second, only the 76+ bosses really matter. Academy is easy with curse removal. Crematorium and Precinct you need to be careful with res flask and curse removal. Shipyard is easy. Shrine you need a sapphire flask for ice form and shock removal. Courtyard is nothing special, and palace you need to hide behind the wall and have a topaz in case you desync and get hit by light scarabs.
