Account-bound items vs enhanced loot drops: where is your point of indifference?
" Saying it's a trojan horse doesn't make it a trojan horse. Can you please explain, precisely, how this is a trojan horse? Thanks. Some folks seem to be avidly against account bound. I'm not sure they realise the idea I was positing is optional. Why would you uninstall if an account-bound enabling unique was an OPTION, that you could equip or unequip? P. I personally think the drop rates for playing solo are pretty bad as it is. I've tried to stay away from trading and opening a shop, since when I get into that with other games, I generally lose interest in that game within a month or so. I don't like playing virtual trading/haggling in a videogame, but it's getting to the point of being forced into it in order to get a character to level 90+.
So to answer the question, the drop rate for me to go fully account bound would have to be around 1000% quality, and 250% quantity. Last edited by jvp#2017 on Jun 6, 2014, 2:15:25 PM

I'd gladly have everything account bound if that'd mean I'd had a better chance of finding upgrades for my characters. End-game (and most of the "pre-end game" phase) is currently pure waste of time (even for a waste of time activity like gaming) if you want to have a sense of progress.
The whole idea of being forced to trade for every single piece of upgrade past level 50 or so (unless you are crazy lucky) is just plain lame. And I'm not even talking about the top-end uniques, mind you. For example, considering the evolution of how D3 loot works and how D3 is currently much better than at its release makes PoE loot system being fundamentally flawed blatantly obvious.
Spoiler
Obligatory "IMHO" before the onslaught of the forum warriors disagreeing.

Well it is a bit of a slippery slope because once soul bound is esablished there would be so much for freedom in how rarity could be managed mechanically than it is right now. Personally I'd prefer if PoE had an optional MMO like crafting system. Where you could farm certain materials from certain mobs and then combine them in certain recipes along with a crafting skill in order to make certain uniques that you want.
I think that would be way more merit based than this 100% rng stuff today. Where you can get a level 8 unique from a level 70 boss. It's just stupid. In Tera there is soulbound on pickup, soul bound on equip, and you know where to go to farm the materials you need in order to craft the end game items that you want. ATM there is a legendary or whatever rarity item that I can craft that requires me to farm loot from 10 different zones before i can build it. It won't just randomly drop for me. I have to explicity go looking for it. So once I did craft it it would feel a lot more like I earned it than just getting lucky. I'd prefer a system like that in PoE. |

You guys already know my answer... I would be all for soul bound/SFL in any form. Trading is too easy mode to be honest. After logging in to XYZ, I fully gemmed my new project out in like 2 mins with all the gems I didn't have... had I done that myself, I would have had to create a Marauder to level 65 and use all those gems.... for example. 2 mins vs like 50 hours. You tell me.
Any way they can move away from ez mode trading to hardcore SFL I would be first in line to play. |

140% yes.

500% IIR base, all Rares always drop a Unique, Currency drops normally and is still tradeable, Uniques cannot be traded or vendored (you're technically "trading" the Vendor ~.^).
Just my first thought.. :S IGN: Golem_Antsy, Harvest Last edited by Sheriff_K#3938 on Jun 6, 2014, 4:08:32 PM

Account bound items would change this game into another casual-friendly crappy game.

" 1-80 is ez-pez. Just use your orbs and vendor-recipes. Sure, you won't get upgrade every level or so, but over time they do come. And as your gear progresses - upgrades are much harder to obtain, this also happens in D3. What goes for topic - no. Higher loot would only speed up process of where you can't find any upgrades, and you're at the same place. What to do next? Up to 600iir/200iiq? "I accept Nujabes as my Savior." I don't think I quite understand enough of what you're asking to determine a point of indifference. There is simply not enough information.
Would this be something that's implemented in a separate league, or something that's in a default/4 month league? Would this mean that you could only party with those who selected this option, thus splitting the leagues? Would you only be able to play solo with this option, thus splitting the league into a regular league and some sort of de facto SFL league? Would there be some sort of "instanced loot" for only the players in a party who selected this option? Does the IIQ/IIR bonus affect the rest of the party? Can this option be turned off and on? Can only certain characters on an account use this option and can account bound items be freely used in the stash amongst other characters on the account? It seems this will take a lot of coding hours and affect everyone else to appeal to a vocal, anti IIR/IIQ group. I won't say anything bad about the idea - it's a cool concept. But I'm with the others on this one and say it just won't work. And Charan is right where the devs are going to say "no" and that's the end of it. There has to be a better trade off than account bound and skyrocketed IIR/IIQ. Hell, take away the account bound nonsense and simply make it a ring that can be destroyed or has a limited amount of time and I bet you'll get some more positive responses. (Consider the Thinking Cap Skull Cap from Diablo 1 with its 1/1 durability) I generally play solo 95% and like to trade to fill in gaps on my equipment. I spend my time mindlessly farming bosses like I did in D2. Does this affect me? Nah. But for the few times I do check the noticeboard, I would NOT want to play in a party with anyone with this hypothetical option turned on. Those guys can play in some other league and take their individual loot balance with them. ign defnob
