Discuss your unorthodox/almostuseless/crazy/shouldn'tworkbutdoes builds/play styles here!

I'm a big fan of 1+1=3 myself.

(...well, She is, but She calls the shots. She is the phoenix. I'm just the ashes.)

Huh. My mace dude is now an actual cultist of Chayula. That's kinda wild.

Hmm. I think I need to pitch that Conduit-Discharge teambuild to my guildies again.
Why am I wearing a heavy belt if I haven't got any pants?
The original post is very near to my heart.

If it means making 1000 more characters for the sake of discovery and inspiration, I will. What seems inefficient and idiotic to some is the very thing that keeps me coming back time and again.

Although I come up with ideas through experimentation and trial & error rather than trying to recreate IRL or fictional heroes, my method of play is quite similar. If I find myself enjoying the Frankenstein's monster I've assembled, I'll play it until another idea comes to mind, or until it's no longer fun, or requires up-scaled gear unavailable to me.

It's the only way to fly! (For me)

Thanks for writing my new favourite PoE forum post, Charan. I feel as less of a weirdo now. :)

I really appreciate the positive/encouraging responses, possibly unwarranted given I'm just ranting like usual.

I've changed the title to see if we can't steer this thread towards its original purpose, being...well, what the title says.

Cold Snap
PvP Scion

Second one's skill tree may be broken (and its legacy because I made this prior to the crit nerf). As you can tell, I spend more time not playing the game.

Edit: Apparently I lost the skill tree. But whatever, the proof of concept is there.

Dual Totem, Dual Curse, Fire Trap, Burning Summoner
Currently have a 5L searing touch with Fire Trap, Searing bond, Increased Burning damage, Chance to Ignite, and Elemental Proliferation.

So the playstyle is. Vulnerability -> Flammability -> Skele Totem -> searing bond -> fire trap -> run around like an idiot.
I can also stay in the back throw dual skele totem switch to sword and board and spam flesh offering.
Before the BM nerf I had them at 250% increased burning damage, I could literally, not figuratively, run to piety and kill everything along the way. My piety kills were around 2 seconds. Oh, and no snapshotting at all.

I'm using 3 flame sentinels now but I think the incinerators might be better.
Glacial Hammer

I like those "dive right in" builds where you see a pack of monsters and instead of surgically disassembling them starting with the most dangerous elements, you are better off rushing in head-first (my previous most successful character uses Dominating Blow, similar story).

Boss fights can be a little challenging as I'm not finished with the defenses, but it's a bit exciting to be facing off against a Carnage who can one-shot you, seeing when he begins his attack animation, and taking advantage of his freeze time to get in behind him where I'm safe from being hit (unless desync rears it's ugly head).

That sound way too effective, I'm sorry.

Just to be clear, this isn't about sharing your awesome builds. This is about telling others how you play this game, and how that may be different to the norm.

I'm with clive on this one, i love goofing around and having fun in the sand-box i call PoE.

But the netcode does limit your options by quite a lot, couple this with the fact i enjoy playing hardcore as well and well...things can get frustrating fast.

I am also quite head-strong if that word exist's, for example i will most likely not do atziri this league for the challenge simply because i remain with my original concept of my build.
Refusing to just take a big bad-ass AOE nuke for the healing phase while my build is a melee ehp tank.

It would feel like surrendering to the challenge if i opted for the cheesy way out. The same goes for just copying a build that is proven to down atziri, really i see no joy in this style of playing.

I also love min-maxing btw, but it happens on a "less efficient" scale since my characters are not top-notch like all the Fotm builds.

Another thing to note on this subject is that the "core game" is extremely easy to finish/play, so creating characters with lesser efficiency but a more fun play-style is actually double beneficial to me, it ups the difficulty of the game and it's usually a lot of fun.

I also love playing a character without utilizing my stash and going self-found and using dropped gems for example, this can make some very funny characters.

Like a discharge on melee kill character with endurance charge on stun :).(very effective early on, but slows-off lategame :') )

+1 for fun.

Sometimes i feel this community lacks creativity to create there own sense of fun. Comparing there fun to other players and then being disappointed when the end-result is not similar etc. I never understood people who blame sources outside themselves when it comes down to a "fun experience".

Peace,

Your tittle also suggest's listing builds that are "out of the norm" of min max efficiency. But instead employ another motivating factor, like joy.

Tittle change might be needed if you don't want people to list these builds :').
