Charan, do you have any pics that you can link of your character? I'd love to see how he looks.

Which one? The Assassin? I'm working on it. The trick is it takes at least two angles to show off how he turned out. I'll get to it today. :)

Also, while I have your attention Charan, 1 quick question. I got really excited when this last round of uniques debuted, as I saw a unique spiked shield!! Alas, I quickly realized it was not designed by you.... Did you scrap your idea? (No offense meant towards the designer of the Jaws of Agongy, that thing rocks and I can't wait to get my hands on one!).

Nope, not scrapped, but all my Rory-time is devoted to getting Goddess Unleashed to a state where I'm happy and he's not tearing his hair out at my crazy ideas. The spiked bundle is still going to happen, and it will be my last unique. It'll also be my 'mark' on the game, in that the title will have my name in it. I'm really excited about it, actually -- I can't wait to make a common unique instead of what is fast turning into a prolonged game of make-a-collector's-item-for-the-hell-of-it. I designed the swords with Standard in mind, way back when I had no idea how much of a shitty reputation Standard would get. I want to make a unique that you can drop in a shorter league and use extensively. That'd be nice.

Since my Rinzler themed character just hit lvl 80, I'll probably be starting a new character soon. I like to get to lvl 80, then start fresh. It also gives me a nice pool of leveled characters with different themes and playstyles, so I can pick and chose depending on my mood.

That seems a sane threshold, given where game content actually ends. I still get occasional PMs mocking me for my 'all low level' roster (I never respond; they don't get what I'm doing, and never will), but in all seriousness, I'd say 70 is my personal threshold. Past that you're pushing into a realm where the game is tuned to challenge min/max builds. That's obviously not my playground.

Regarding Rinzler, did you see the Seraph throw mtx and think: 'Tron!', or was it serendipitous?

I've had the desire lately to try to recreate one of my favorite characters from my D2 days, an ice bowazon. I don't think I've EVER seen an cold/bow character in the 2+ years I've played POE...

I've been hoarding a few nice corrupted items for her, but still haven't fleshed out the complete build yet.

So far, got these items to work with:

I think there is some cool interaction possible between the gloves and the quiver (curse proliferation). Between the gloves, quiver, and ice shot gem, I'll have 85% cold conversion. Probably Rime Gaze for the helm and then try to find a good phys bow.

I keep meaning to do this, but I've fallen too much in love with the raw damage output of well-supported puncture when it comes to archery. I had another character, a while ago, a witch who combined rain of arrows with cold snap. It seemed a logical combo to me: cold snap a group in place, rain death from above. I haven't revisited her in a while and there have been plenty of chances since (including Vaal RoA), so she's not entirely off the table yet.

While I'm on the subject, does anyone know how the curse corruption on those gloves work? As in, is it 100% guaranteed to curse enemies on hit, or is it a % like the curse cast on hit support gem?

There's no percentage given. I'd assume it's 100% every time you hit. Interesting how it bumped up the requisite level. That'd almost annoy me, if it weren't a very common unique.

Huh. My mace dude is now an actual cultist of Chayula. That's kinda wild.

I think I've just found my next build ;) With the green RoA MTX I feel like I'm Ironpoint the Forsaken's spawn.

Her name was LadyShatterly. And I've just gotten a sudden urge to return to her. I've been bored with all my others lately -- they seem like variations on a theme: hard-hitting single-target melee.

Speaking of, here's another I've got going.

MollyHayes: level 40 something 'punching' witch.

(Molly Hayes is a young girl from a Marvel series called 'Runaways' [which I heartily recommend to any Whedon fans, since it pretty much out-Whedons Whedon with the writing]. Her mutant ability is super strength/nigh invulnerability but she gets sleepy after using it. She doesn't have fancy attacks or martial arts ability. She just punches really friggin' hard.)

Something I observed with punching is that the Witch has a better 'straight punch' animation with claws than with unarmed. So my initial intention to make a Facebreaker witch quickly gave way to a single claw witch. True to form, she hits stupendously hard. She's also my first dabbling with Cast When Damage Taken, since I figure if the comic book Molly were to get hit, she'd subconsciously bolster her defences (represented by cwdt enfeeble, EC, IC). She has two attacks: puncture+damage supports, and flicker strike+culling.

You can see how she's sort of similar to the Assassin, in that they both use these two attacks, but in different ways. Where the assassin tries to dispatch the first target with flicker strike, tag the rest with puncture and then smoke mine away, Molly dispatches the first target and then just methodically punches anything else around to death. She's a bit slow for now but that's okay. That, to me, represents some of her drowsiness.

Her mtxes are anything purple. That's what Molly wears. And lavender claw, since when she punches, there's a pink aura around her fists.

She's fun, but a bit monotonous.

That's cool. I love themed chrs like that. I used to do the same back in my D2 days. I still make themes but they are less strict lately, kudos on staying true to form like that, the end results are always more interesting that way.

When I play this game and design a build, I do it on my own, and develop my own theories.
Obviously, I've gotten much better with time. My first character was a templar, and I liked using claws early on. I eventually learned that those wouldn't work so well and I eventually quit him and made a dual claw shadow, who also ended up being CI. He's probably my most played character even though I've made a lot since, and his build is actually really good.

I've always enjoyed doing unique and new things, and when I make a build, I want to do something that no one else in the parties I may join use. That way, they'll be like 'whoa, what is that, that looks neat' and I can explain it to them and maybe get them to try it.

Boem posted earlier about cast on melee kill + end on melee stun + discharge. Man, I thought of doing that on my own and haven't gotten to trying it yet. But I guess great minds think alike, right?

Anyway, the most unorthodox build I've done is definitely my movespeed shadow. The entire goal of the character was to run as fast as possible. Then I'd go and join groups, say farming fellshrine, and run around. I'm faster without a flask then everyone is with one by far. Also, the character can outrun most projectiles enemies fire, so you can just run past everything.

I also trolled a few parties with this character, and I kinda regret it a little now (though it was great fun at the time). I'd join a party doing the quest to get the baleful gem and run ahead of them to the last zone. If I could kill the boss before anyone else entered, they wouldn't get the quest reward. If I had time I'd also open all the chests and hide all of the loot dropped in the map in some obscure corner. I wouldn't kill any monsters to make them think all was well, then they get to the boss and they get nothing and have to do the quest again.

Was great fun, and I'll continue to make characters to follow my random ideas (thought they tend to be more late game oriented now)

I'm not entirely a Johnny anymore, but I'm not entirely Spike yet either.

@ Charan, try using reave with a claw, if your going for that "straight punch" animation, reave is really cool. With multistrike + reave , witch becomes a boxer.

Well that goes without saying. Now if you don't have an actual build or playstyle to discuss, please don't post here. Plenty of other threads for you to be terse and facetious in. Cheers.

I play a Lightning Strike Witch with Hyaon's Fury (no Frenzy charges, no drawback) atm.

I try to do as much Lightning damage as possible (%WED on gear, added lightning and wrath gems), while doing no other damage at all (except for the little bit of physical you have to use).

Gems:

Lightning Strike + multi + added lightning + life leech + lightning penetration + WED

Lightning Warp + Faster Casting + Reduced Duration

Reduced Mana + Wrath, Tempest Shield, Determination
Reduced Mana + Blood Magic + Clarity (to dodge the missing mana leech)

Cast on damage taken +xyz (I change this a lot)

Tree:
Level 80

Gear:
Spoiler

Saving up for a Doryani Lightning Belt atm, also want jewelry with WED+Lightning damage.

DpS is at ~9000 atm, with huge improvements to be made (divine the swords super low roll, level the gems to 20, get more flat lightning damage).
35% chance to shock is also pretty sweet.

Before, I played with 6 frenzy charges, but it's just not worth it. They gave me +72% lightning damage, which I was easily able to grab from the tree once I specced out of the frenzy charges. So I ate like 60 regrets and took the templar zone instead of the "frenzy charges" area...

She looks nice!

I love to play low life but I dont give a fuck to dream about a shav (crappy stats trading for chaos barrier...yes maybe you could fit tempest shield or a purity aura with it but that s all) I like saintly!!

So... what about using a witch to build a low life melee char?
Using blood rage would be cool..but will force to use the blood dance or immortal flesh (still looking to overcome that)
Im also planning to use... Blood Magic gem when I hit lv 68

So far outrageously fun and easy leveling I used the lk's idea and asked
him for his skill tree (he said please dont post until I finish the build)

I differ from his build as he will never change weapons and plan to do endgame content with themand CoC

As a witch im in duty to curse. .even if this is a waste of time and skill point so hex master and whisper of doom are just mandatory ([..]"and you4 grand children will scream")

A witch sbould also have some minions..so dominating blow is also mandatory.

As witches fly on their giant dildo I found flicker strike would be te closest way to do the same.

The originality of the build:
Low life
No shav
Melee witch
Blood rage and blood magic (skill gem)

Benefit? A hudge attack speed, im still uping my empower and both enhance

For noe dual red hatched is cool to watch updated vendor..but will switch iit for another dual claw switch ;)

So thats not really new.. except I also use doedre damning. ( double malus: es and life downside for a low life build without a shav)
Currently using Cassock until I goto merciless where I will be able to wear real chest and ring..by the way you ll get surprise how often you block as dual wield.

I cannot get tired to get to perpetus and pop vaal reave (multistrike melee phys conc effect)

N.B I got tired a trying to explain to my cell that I am no god...nevertheless he always caps me when I speak at the first person

Wasn't sure if he's changed since you posted. He definitely looks the part!

As soon as I saw the Sereph throw mtx I knew I had to do something around Tron...even though I loathed the spectral throw skill. I actually re-watched it over the weekend. There's a couple of scenes in the beginning where the "programs" shatter when struck with a disc. Looks like I need to replace faster projectiles support with added cold damage support for that freeze/shatter chance :).

That's actually a really good idea...I might just try that! Would be really good to stack AoE nodes, since cold snap is an AoE spell and RoA is one of the few archery skills that benefits from AoE as well. Good synergy there.
