ReverendBizzarre: ele cleave templar [6k life, 45k+ dps]

Yeah, that sound familiar. :)

A few items with extra elemental damage make such a big difference.

This build was super fun, right until I beat piety, now it has just become frustrating. With concentrated effect, combined with the slightest desync, 40% of my time in game I'm swinging at nothing, losing mana and dying to ranged enemies. I still do good damage, think my DPS is 7000 right no at level 64, it's just the fact that ranged is still so much better. Anyone have any tips or does the build get significantly better in the 70's? Looking at the tree I don't really see much improvement.

Thought I found a melee character I really enjoyed, but I think it's just a waste of time when ranged is still so good.
Stop using Concentrated effect? Link Increased AoE? You know, if you are lacking range, then Concentrated isn't doing do a favor...

Your problem is pretty simple. You don't have anger or wrath. Huge mistake. When you have bad gear, as all newbies inevitably do, anger and wrath contribute the majority of your damage.

Also your foil is too slow. Swapping it for a 1.6+ speed weapon, even a white one, will increase your damage (once you start running anger and wrath).

You may need to get some extra strength or int from an amulet in order to run one or the other, depending on what direction you've gone first in the build.

Also don't forget granite flasks! If you run into a big pack of nasties popping a granite flask will make you very tanky. I used 2x granites the whole way leveling up, and still do. I spam them any time I get into the soup.

Finally, you have a 3 link, but you have cleave in a 2 link? Move it to your chest, add life on hit to it.

And this is why I run increased AoE, not concentrated effect. Even without conc effect I have 9k dps on cleave, so screw it. I hit lots of guys at once with my cleave, and kill faster than with conc effect (except bosses of course, but they still die plenty fast).

With a reasonably well rounded character with; high resists, 3k-ish life, granite and seething flasks you should be able to survive a few swings with no life leech. Just spam flasks whenever you detect desync. I experience desync regularly but just spamming flasks saves my behind in allmost every case.

Each level of Anger/Wrath is a multi-hundred DPS boost.

Enjoyment is never a waste of time! But yes if killspeed is your only priority then LA/IR ranger is the build you should be playing.

This build however neither require the broken LA-chaining mechanics, Iron Reflexes or 6L Blood Magic skills to function; one or more of these mechanics which I expect will get the nerf-stick very soon.

I wouldn't be at all surprised if they nerfed cleave by applying the dual wield damage penalty to elemental damage as well, some time in the not too distant future. Or possibly less directly by nerfing the weapon elemental damage support, because that thing is pretty crazy.

Yeah I'm going to not give up just yet. Going to level him to 69 so I can use my level 20 auras and increase aoe area and see how it goes.

WED definitely needs a nerf but this will nerf all elemental builds, so not a direct nerf to the EC build.
That WED is way stronger than added Physical support AND it is way easier to stack flat ele dmg is just plain stupid imho.

The dual wield penalty to cleave is a little weird but I don't think it will get a straight nerf. Even a straight nerf like "15% Less Dmg while d/w" instead of the "40% Reduced Wep Dmg while d/w" will not invalidate the EC build.
This change/nerf will actually make a lot of sense as it will boost on-weapon dmg vs. off-weapon which also indirectly will boost physical vs. elemental.
