this build is just so much more fun than my GS marauder. just as tanky and 3x the dps as well. made some changes to the original since i wanted EB and inner force, but it's close. 12.5k dps, 3.8k life, 8k armor, capped resists at level 75 - now i just need to find better gear since mine is still pretty crap. been using the same gloves, boots, and ammy since level 30-ish.

I see you have some extra mana, but how are you still supporting cleave without Mana Leech? Your Mana regen that good?

The build might even be stronger, and perhaps even better for Rangers, assuming we can go through Duelist area effectively.

Btw, nugiyen has been playing ele cleave templar in the 1 week race, and Kripp finally give it a go yesterday starts practicing at around 1h30, apparently he placed 2nd:

Ice Spear didn't work at all for me. I spent 65 levels levelling these gems with spell totem and stuff and the damage is pityful on a 4 link. It's next to useless. That thing is probably meant to be used by builds that focus 100% on their totems with lots of crit damage.

Not to mention that you have to find spare sockets on alternate set to level up all these gems when you could be levelling other useful gems. I levelled Spell Totem thinking that if Ice Spear doesn't work I could also do the Summon Skeleton trick, but found out that Brutus in Merciless is dead easy with the Rejuvenation Totem (solo with just 3K HP). You have plenty of time to smack his shoulder plates while he beat on the totem, cast the totem from behind a pillar. I'm guessing the Totem doesn't die too quickly because it heals itself up.

If anything for variety I would look at levelling Bear Trap or Viper Strike, both are quite potent to finish of rare monsters. You can switch your linked Dual Strike for Viper Strike for boss fights, in which case it does both really good DPS (dual wield) and you can stack 4 charges very fast. Bear Trap can be very strong with Added Fire (scales off physical). Anything but waste your time doing a poor impression of a Witch.

For something really creative I'd try to make a totem that can distract enemies or spread conditions. Heck, I wonder if Shock Nova Spell Totem wouldn't be a better option with Static Blows than Ice Spear.

Alrighty i filmed myself doing a 67 map with the dps gear and another 67 with the more tanky gear, unfortunately the videos are 9GB and 7Gb so it will take quite a while for them to get uploaded on youtube it seems.. ill be posting them here when they're uploaded

Victor do you know how he got 1300+ mana on his ele cleave Templar? That's quite a huge difference with my Ranger... I think he said he'd use the mana eventually to use Determination and Inner Force and reach 10K armor or so... what do you think he gave up compared to your build? Or did he build it like your shadow? (haven't been able to see his passive tree atm)

i regen 69.5 mana per second, and my cleave costs around 82 mana per second. it takes 9 seconds for me to run out of mana, and only 1.5 seconds for it to go back up to "full". 105 mana unreserved.

he did the same basic thing but the difference is that he also took eldricht battery, so he went through the shadow area to IR. I have given taking EB some thought when i started this build but im still not sure that it will do better than this setup, it would mean sacrificing quite a lot of armor, life regen, and life nodes for auras and an extra link on cleave since you dont need to use mana leech.

There have been some discussions in this thread a while ago about taking EB or not, we didnt really arrive to any conclusion to see which is better, EB or not EB.

Taking EB would mean that you need to skip the middle life, elemental damage, regen and resistance nodes from there, it would also mean sacrifcing the second body and soul node for more points, thus losing more resistance and armor. I dont think these points can be rebalanced by having more auras and an extra link by taking EB.

I'm at 82 and enjoying the build a lot granted my gear is pretty good. A few changes I made supported by gear are that I actually run 5 Aura's with two on Blood Magic by swapping reduced mana around and I run Windscream for a second curse. I find that on tough maps the enfeeble is amazing and then also being able to stack conductivity on top increases my dps way more than wakes could ever do. I also have the option of casting ele weakness and conductivity on a stack of annoying golems to down them quickly as well. The Aura's I run change depending on the map so I have a lot in sockets.

The dual curses make me wonder if I should try running Added Lightning Damage though. Not sure.



PS: Nice chatting with you briefly on Nugi's stream Victor. I actually have an 82 shadow that was the CI cleave build you ran in CB. Was my first char ever and had no idea how bad CI was now, can't wait to respec him with the patch.

Well added would be better than penetration with double curses only if you also manage to get a 20% added light because thats what tops it off, the chance to shock.

Im on nugis stream now again since uploading the videos on youtube, cant risk a lag death in game.. should be quite a few hours until they are done.. compressed them to shittier quality so they go a bit faster
