No names available

As others have mentioned, it's not really hard. I made a couple five and six letter names this morning. They are all name-y names, too. I usually start with going to http://www.rinkworks.com/namegen/ (I'm using this since the UO days) and refresh until something catches my creativity. Then I tweak the name a little. If that failed, I'd add a surname, but I generally prefer one-word names and that has not been a problem for me.

I understand getting attached to a name or the idea for a name, but being forced to think outside the box isn't a bad idea. GGG will also change names, so if you think of something better later, you can email them and ask for a name swap.

You do know character limit is referring to your actual characters where you are only allowed 24 right? It is telling you you can't make anymore characters because you will be over that limit.

Speak for yourself; I can find names all the time when referencing other games (usually get a name first try) and being able to use different character casing makes it even better imo.

Not everyone likes stupid names like "LOL_I_R_WITCH", "StabsUrAnus", etc.

This issue has been brought up since closed beta and wouldn't keep being discussed if finding a decent name was as easy as everyone claims.

There is no need to get one of those names. I'd not name my characters like that, either.

But anyway, what's the solution? Inactive characters being deleted after 90 days? I think that is how it was in D2. That eventually killed my interest in the game. And if my CB names had been deleted, I'd not have started PoE again for release, and would not have bought the packs. When I played WoW for eight years, I took half year breaks a few times. If my characters had been deleted, I would also not have returned.

That leaves the D3 approach of having an account name and non-unique names. Then you'll still have people who don't like their account name and the one they want is taken. It would work, but makes characters feel less unique, in a way, and you'd have to show the account name in the game to avoid confusion.
