How does the +1 and -1 on Skillgems really work?

If you get +1 on a Lv1/q20 Gem will it become Lv2/q20 and be able to reach 21/20?

I dont see why people have Lv20/q0 corrupted gems, this does not make sense imo.

Its definitly the best option to vaal a Lv1/q20 gem unless my assumption is wrong.

If people vaal 20/20 gems this seems also like a waste imo, because you are basically using 2x Lv1/q20 for the upgrade process.

Nope. It only adds +1 level, it does not increase the cap. It needs to be 20 if you want a 21 gem.

Many gems barely benefit from 20 quality such as auras if you mean those.

Not following your thought process on this.

Vaaling levels on to gems doesn't technically raise the cap, it simply adds a level, so the only way to get a level 21 base gem is by corrupting it at 20.

If it weren't like this people would just corrupt 1/20 gems until they get what they want and getting an overcapped gem would be pretty trivial.

I was assuming it IS possible to lv a +1 Lv1/q20 gem to Lv21/q20, but as its not doable it makes no sense to vaal a <Lv20 gem.

(i wish i had 21/20 added lightning to complete the set, and the 21/20 GMP i bought so i havent included it in my success list)

Did 10 more lvl20s with vaal orbs just now - missed on every single one. 1 -quality, 3 -1 level and 6 no change. (both the +1 level gems I added were bought from other players.)

Frustrating, but the war will carry on.
