[3.1] GLADIATOR 1H+Shield Max Block&Spell Block Tank + a BoR version
" Completely viable, possibly even better. We'll have to see in-game, ofc, but from what I've seen in alpha, Sunder seems very strong. 1H+Shield High Block&Spell Block Tank: http://www.pathofexile.com/forum/view-thread/868995

" Best in slot is probably now The Anvil: http://pathofexile.gamepedia.com/The_Anvil since it allows us to reach 78% block/78% spell block 1H+Shield High Block&Spell Block Tank: http://www.pathofexile.com/forum/view-thread/868995

I've been playing a caster for the past several leagues and now I'm looking to build a juggernaut (without going Juggernaut) that can face tank but I'm having a really hard time trying to decide whether I want to play this or the EQ Champion build put together by LiftingBro.
Both have their strengths and weaknesses while giving the impression that they're equal when the entire package is taken in to consideration. Gladiator relies on defense which in turn buffs their offense whereas Champion gives you a buffed version of Fortify which opens the door to two-handers. Do you think the damage potential of Glad can match (or exceed) Champ? Do you think buffed Fortify is better or worse than max block/spell block? That could help me decide. |
|
This is almost exactly the kind of build I had been looking for to start out with in Ascendancy, except that I had originally planned to use Champion subclass instead. After reading some of the discussion on it though, I think I agree that Gladiator might be the better option after all.
Still waiting on the recommended support gems for Sunder though ;) Do you think multistrike is good with this setup? | |
I disagree with taking violent retaliation. Most of the time you will not benefit from it anyway. I rather you spend your last Ascendancy point on one of the bonus one handed damage.

" 1h+shield Gladiator can hardly match the DPS of a 2-handed Champion, just as a buffed-Fortify Champion's tankiness can hardly match the tankiness of 78/78 block/spell block chance of Gladiator. Not sure how much that helped :D 1H+Shield High Block&Spell Block Tank: http://www.pathofexile.com/forum/view-thread/868995

" What do you mean most of the time you won't benefit from it? With 78 block chance, you WILL benefit from it most of the time :D But sure, you can go for Outmatch and Outlast or Gratuitous Violence, it's a completely viable choice. 1H+Shield High Block&Spell Block Tank: http://www.pathofexile.com/forum/view-thread/868995 Ice Crash Crit Staff AKA "The Shaterring Karui": https://www.pathofexile.com/forum/view-thread/1289037 Tanky Block+AR+EV Ranger Crit Reave Dagger/Claw: https://www.pathofexile.com/forum/view-thread/1301888 Last edited by ComradeSerge on Mar 3, 2016, 1:14:12 PM

" We have 6 Ascendancy skill points in total. It therefore might seem reasonable to reach all the larger nodes as they exactly use up all 6 points. What I mean is to spend 5 points to grab all the block nodes but spend the last one on one handed damage rather than Violent Retaliation. Take note that violent retaliation requires quite a number of hits blocked to overtake one handed damage's bonus, depending on map situation this may or may not be better. |
