Thats a pretty poor response, comparing an orb you know re-rolls mods only to an orb that is totally unpredictable. Not only can it reroll the mods, it rolls all the sockets and links too...and then locks it from further modification.

Comparing an orb that rerolls mods to an orb that rerolls mods and sockets? It's a fair comparison, and the point is exactly the same; if you have a good item, you have to take a risk if you want to make it better. When eternals were added to the game it kind of ruined that aspect a bit, and this seems like a way of bringing it back. None the less, the idea of an orb being able to make an item better or worse isn't new, most other orbs can also do it, I don't understand why some people are getting so upset about this one.

It's not that it's making them worse. It's the scale of which it's making them worse. It's because the possible negative outcome vastly outweigh the positive possibilities.

Not only that, you would be unlikely to use a chaos on an already good item. And an exalt, no matter how bad it's roll, will always improve the item. Not a fair comparison.

Also, need I mention that fusings no longer unfuse an item that has the maximum possible links? They can make them worse, yes. but only to a point.

Again though, you aren't being consistent, the same thing applies to other orbs. In the example I gave before, you'd have zero chance of the chaos making the chest better, it could only possibly get worse.

You seem to be basing your opinion on a bunch of people who risked BiS items without knowing the risks and possible rewards. Yes, if you gamble with a BiS item, it will probably come out worse, that shouldn't come as a huge surprise. The description on the orb is crystal clear about the results being unpredictable and permanent.

Did Nothing

Will try here next

too scared to try. I would if you could re-color after... but not being able to color is just bad.

And you're not using logic. You wouldn't USE a chaos orb on such an item. The only possible time you would is if you only had that one good roll, in which case, you'd be more likely to get better rolls on everything else, even if you lost that max life roll.

This makes me wonder if the Affix table isn't attached to the uniques or existing affixes. That's just too damn useful to have happened by mere happenchance. A guy in-game Vaal'ed a pair of those unique crit gloves, and it gave him a Cast on Crit Support implicit.

By all rights you should have gotten +3 to dex if it were pure raw chance.

While obviously +4% chaos resist is not worth the value of any 6-link... if the Supported By affix could roll on them, then it would truly be a powerful item. Insanely so. Voltaxic Rift with intrinsic lv 15ish Faster Attacks or Weapon Elemental Damage, hrm? Or even something as mild as 1% life leech from fire damage on Searing Touch?

Otherwise, just locking the colors is a worse trade off than any +5 str you might roll. The best supports of today might not always be the best supports of tomorrow.

In the meantime I'm going to stick to things that have no sockets like a good Cautious Qarl.

That's the whole point dude. If you knew an item was already almost as good as it could possibly be, you wouldn't use an orb that says it's going to change it whether it be a chaos or a vaal orb. What you are witnessing is a bunch of people do the equivalent of chaosing BiS rares and wondering why most of them come out worse than before, but instead they are doing it with vaal orbs on legacy uniques. The results shouldn't be surprising. The fact that it even has the possibility of making a BiS item even better is irrelevant to the point.
