[Guide][HC] Fite's Detonate Dead Build (Scion/Templar/Witch)

Warning, this build is very fun, powerful, cheap and whatever you want, but unfortunately not viable in HC, except if you completely avoid elemental reflect maps (which is very annoying when you start rolling 75+ maps....)

I made my way to level 84 in Invasion and i died today in my first map with elemental reflect, at the first mob pack. I just detonate a rare necromancer with only 3 or 4 mobs around, i had 5000 life, 85% fire res, MOM and AA level 20, not even double reflect...

So yes, maybe that was dumb to detonate this rare, but you can't do dozens of maps with reflect and never detonate any rare by accident, it's impossible, sooner or later you'll do it, and die instantly.

Yes, you can tell me i'm a noob and i should go softcore, but i made 3 char at level 90+ in an HC league, so i know how to survive in this game, and also, Fite himself who MADE this build and have a lot more practice than me, died to reflect too (you can see that on his stream)...

So, don't try this build in HC, it's not safe, reflect will destroy you sooner or later, just my 2 cents. :-)

Says build is not hardcore viable.

Killed self by blowing up a Rare corpse with a bajillion HP.

Maybe you should learn the mechanics behind DD? The bigger the corpse, the bigger the boom. What you SHOULD have done was blow up one of those iddy biddy small skeletons. If I don't kill myself to reflect on softcore your hardcore build should fair even better.

EDIT: Let me reword this. I have killed myself to reflect by testing out reflect to see how much this build could handle.

This sums it up:

Vaal Det. Dead in Jungle Valley Boss room with ele reflect = death.

Det. Dead a rare corpse on a pack of 20 = death.

Det. Dead a golem on a mid sized pack = holy fuck i need to heal.

Det. Dead small corpses = lol what reflect?

EDIT 2: Workarounds: Don't get a ton of AoE nodes/gear/gems. Larger the area, more likely you are to hit more monsters.

Have RotP and a few Fire flasks on hand. Pop one everytime you face a largish pack.

Don't use Flamm. I have 4 curses I cycle through depending on the map mods. If it's reflect, I generally go Enfeeble + Flamm. If it gets REALLY bad for me I switch to Temp Chains.

Also, if you're running, say, Academy where it's hard to see corpses and stuff due to lighting you can just desecrate and blow those up instead. I try not to detonate other corpses in fear of reflect.

I also run with Cloak of Defiance and have just under 700 unreserved with up to 480 regen now depending on gear (currently using a 450 setup because i've been doing ele weakness maps) so I take much less reflect damage that way.

Don't follow a build blindly. Look at it and reinvent it to suit yourself. If you blindly follow a build then things will likely go bad. Not everyone has the same playstyle so Fite's build suits his style but might not suit yours.

Thanks for the advice. Just to clarify, do you mean 600-800 mana unreserved (with auras on)? I have only about 200 unreserved out of 700 max.

600+ unreserved is what you need. There has to be a buffer, to make MoM worthwhile.

I'd say 400+ is what you wanna aim for. I was doing 75+ maps with it. I now have almost 700 and it's so helpful but I'd say you're decently off at 400. You want more though.

Yes i agree with you, with this build you have to pay attention, play smart, know the mechanic of DD, ect ect.

But my point is you can't always control what you do, believe me I knew the damage is 18% of corpse life when i right-clic on this rare by accident ; sooner or later you will missclic and detonate the wrong corpse, and the result is instant rip. With this build, you can kill yourself instantly for the slightest of mistake, that's why I said it's not safe to play it in an HC league.

Fite Himself died to reflect, with his own build and playstyle; he detonate the invasion boss with mobs around, and i'm pretty sure he know the mechanic of DD.

Well if you watched the VOD you'd realise that he himself fucked up. He didn't even know how he died until he thought about it and then realised that he messed up. If he had realised that that the boss had died and not blew that up he probably would have dropped desecrate, and DD'ed that way.

Not always which is why you build your build to mitigate those mistakes. I've made a few mistakes (boom goes the rare golem).

Level 90, almost 91 and I've only ever died to reflect when I was doing experiments (roll ele reflect map and try my damndest to kill myself). I got myself more mitgation than the current build, lost a ton of AoE, etc... Works like a charm.

But yeah, the best way to stop reflect is to back up and desecrate. That will stop you from booming the big ones.

So, yes, you can't ALWAYS control everything. That is why you have other gear at your disposal. Oh and another great tip. If I run a reflect map I bring an extra Ruby with me and pop one everytime I'm facing a big pack/rare pack/i'm uncertain. 99% fire resist does wonders.

Another big tip for people is to really cut down on those AoE. Don't use the gem, don't get the nodes/carcass jack. reflect hurts really bad with all of those.

Yeah he made a big error there. Not the build's fault at all. Player error can be mitigated but it wasn't. He didn't realize the boss was dead. It was an easy thing to play around but he did fuck up as we all do. It's not a hard fix to work around either.

All in all, this build isn't bad for hardcore at all. Every build can gib themselves accidentally but you just have to see what you did wrong and do it differently next time.

Like he said, I played like a pleb and paid the price.

To anyone saying/thinking this build isn't Hardcore viable I say this;

If you're looking for a retard proof build you should consider playing Diablo 3.
No offense or hard feelings at all but you should understand and appreciate that there is a vast number of mechanics and things that can kill you in this game, especially now on Invasion League. There simply is no 100% retard proof build - something can ALWAYS kill you and it'll usually be your own fault.
(By all means, prove me wrong!)

Also I updated some stuff and things

I love blowing up countless stuff but do u have anything to use for single target? Without having to cast desecrate under it all the time?

My build right now is Detonate Dead. I use Searing Bond totem to help distract and deal out more DPS. I mostly rely on burning damage to finish the opponents.

Single target is a pain though. I've considered just adding a 4-L Flameblast just to instigate kills / be able to aim a spell without a corpse (i levelled with FB and SB mostly) and then just blowing up the corpses after that.

Desecrate doesn't do enough to kill with chaos damage.

Is it worth having Faster Casting on Desecrate? Cus if not then I can just have a 3L Warp - Cast - Duration

and then put desecrate somewhere else.

that would free up my 4-L for Flameblast - Fire Pen - Cast - Conc Effect

Thanks
oh fudge.

level 91 but i only get 1% from 76 maps and 3% from 78s.

Guess i won't be getting Faith and Steel anytime soon. >_>

Debating if I should spec out of the 2 armor/es nodes and get life or head somewhere else...
