Is 95% crit chance too much? I'm weak right now using tab and not having a lot of life, but I do have full res with purity and i'm running evasion. Starting to map, and everything just keels over even with my unleveled gems.

I'm running this build right now with a few modifications for the purpose of being tankier. My tree looks very similiar except that I dont spec into Acrobatics and instead go for armor. I believe that everyone is making the mistake of being squishy with this build. No matter what, your damage is going to be insane. Your damage will scale like crazyyy off of high crit chance and high level gems.
1) Instead of running Kris' I run dual Ungil's Gauche + stone of lazwhar. With the nodes you get, my block chance is at 70% and my spell block is at 35%. BLOCK CHANCE WORKS ON REFLECT!! Probably the biggest problem with this build is hugely mitigated by this. I found this worked a lot better than just getting more lifeleech. By being careful and having high block, reflect packs are only a small inconvenience. 2) In my 6-link (tabula) I use Fireball + Arctic Breath + Concentrated Effect. Keep in mind that CoC builds destroy packs and struggle on solo targets. This build focuses on covering our weak spots and not just further increasing our strong areas. When running GMP,enemies are usually hit by 3 of EACH fireball and Arctic Breath. Both of them are also AOE meaning that multiple enemies will be hit by each bolt. This damage gets an extra 68% damage from Conc Effect. After testing and running numbers I've decided that Ice Spear is pretty awful for this build. Ice Spear is low damage, high crit, pierces and only 1 shot hits each target. With its lower damage but higher crit, Ice Spear's single bolt damage turn out to be similar to AB. The problem is that Arctic breath has AT LEAST 3 bolts hitting at a time. This means at least triple the dps on single target. Ice Spears ability to hit multiple targets doesnt concern us because with lots of crit chance and tons of enemies, any skill we use in there will insta-gib the pack. Ice Spear doesnt stand up in damage vs single targets and bosses. With similar damage + GMP shotgunning, AB is dealing up to 5x the damage of Ice Spear. All of this still doesnt consider the fact that Conc Effect still increases your Fireballs Dps by 68% also!! Success: I was solo clearing 74 maps easily when I was level 66. Ive since moved on to top-tier maps and have been having very little problems. I manage to cap resists from only my gloves, rings, belt and boots without using Purity of Elements. For a lot of the upper bosses I switch in a ruby/topaz flask and purity of X. If the map mod reduces my resists I just turn back on purity of elements. " Sure I can.
Gear
My unset ring + gloves can be upgraded pretty easily. Hitting that attack speed roll on gloves and having a crit ring would be pretty huge.

I also take a node for +1. Having that crit is damn nice. Tbh I only really use it on boss rooms because everything else dies to fast anyways. Clarity is good but to mana heavy so we run BM. Reason for the low level lightning warp is boxes. You are able to click away with your lightning warp, tap the box and than it TPs you away.

Whats changed
It cost him 10 points to spec into Acro. Here's what I did instead and why. It ended up costing me a few extra points total but I think its worth it. 1. Theres one 5% reduced mana by the top of the tree I took. Its right on the highway so why the fuck not. 2-5 When you go right and up of the starting area you'll notice I changed up a bit of stuff there (by freeze and assassination). I wanted to grab that Power charge so instead of cutting over the circle I went through the middle. It cost me 2 extra points but I got an extra 32% cold damage 5% freeze and 20% crit strike chance. Id rather have that than +20 int. 2 more nodes for the power charge. Im not really sure if this was 100% worth it or not. You may want to do this after level 80 when there isnt much else around. 6-7 Right of the starting area I took blinding speed because CoC scales like mad with it. Cost me 2 nodes. 6% attack speed per node would be worth taking... the 2 extra block is just a freebie 8-10 As I go down I grab an extra mana gyeser to the left. Once you start getting IAS this build gets pretty mana hungry with no leech. You can honestly skip this but im lazy as fuck. Id rather run an extra quicksilver or granite than try to keep up mana pots. I also skipped his ele resist node here. Its nothing special. 11 Took Iron Reflexes because being halfway between armor and evasion with shitty mitigation sucks. (12-13) Take Leather and Steel if you arent using a tabula! It should give at least 300 armor + the movespeed bonus is pretty noticeable if your wearing a real chest. 12 Another 6% attack speed node. These are to awesome to pass up on. 13 WHYYYY. Life regen nodes are the best. I'd kill for a few extra of these. Im hoping he takes it next level in his build. If I find any time I might make a full guide. Id fear it would be to similar to this one though :p | |
" So you want to be tankier and abandon acro and spell acro? Rly? It's worse decision you can make. You cannot go armor with this build, or it's not worth it. We have tabula and tons of specialized gear, you could never build up decent quantity. But even with 6L Armor chest - armor is better suited for melee anyway. " You barely even remedied acro /spell acro loss with stone and you've lost 30% of chc and dps pure amu. Not worth it. Armor, 70% block and 35% spell block is much worse then 19% evasion, 29% block, 40% dodge and 30% spell dodge. And you've crippled dps output and especially single target output. " So does acro. " Actually, changes you've made make you struggle on single targets. FP is better then AB + conc effect in practice. Less clutter, more freezing, more life leeching (OK, with Berek's) more AoE. " After testing and running numbers I have decided exactly the opposite. IS does not look that great on first sight but guaranteed pierce on close and crit on far more then makes up for it. " They are both projectiles and act in same way (- aoe on IS) " Wrong again. IS has ability to shoot behind enemies and kill tough enemies at back like totems or necros. Tested in practice, you're theorizing too much. It's commendable that you're trying to improve build but really, this build is already field tested and polished really well. Your changes are not good, to put things simply. IGN STD Ajax_Deadeye| Nathaniel_Corwin| Itane_Shira| Tetra_Mayani| Arkanis_Gath

Well,
thx for the very detailed answer KBdark :) and also thx TK for his answer, although a bit too "responsive". :) Btw, Im rly rly noob to this game :) I am just asking, not posing any truths that I stand behind or anything. :D Firstly, allow me to bring to your attetion the following guide which is sort of a middle ground between the two approaches http://www.pathofexile.com/forum/view-thread/821284/page/1. Now, I actually am very curious about the "math" you are both invoking about ice spear setup versus conc eff setup. What is your argument against or for GMP? It seems to my noobish eyes as being a strick upgrade for this build. And we could swap gems for boss fights or use EE as the other guide does. And looking at the posted guide one has to wonder whether the dps in the TKs build could not be reduced in favor of not blowing ourselfs to high heavens with every other random trigger at reflects. Which were my experience playing the build from original post. Why not keep the block item setup and the evasion basis? Would there be a problem with single targets? If we were using the conc effect with EE, maybe singles would not be a problem and we would still be way more protected against ourselfs. Also, where would you stand on taking EE vs the 3 aura setup and why? Also, as per my theory calculations there could be made some changes so that we take both EE and auras. I could post it, but not today. I am going to bed. :) Thanks for answers in advance. Have a nice day. |

i agree with most of what you say, except about arctic breath. i think you're greatly underestimating it.
with the recent changes, its damage is simply insane. insane like in "even higher than fireball". over 2.5 times freezing pulse' damage. FP may offer better AoE due to piercing, but at the very least, fireball will have to be replaced. and btw, with the new artic breath you can easily go for a full cold setup while retaining high damage, and use cold pen instead of the third spell on a 6L to tackle resistances. that also allow you to minimise reflect further by using purity of ice instead of the general purity, provided that you can cap fire/lightning res without it. finally, his reflection on block isn't that bad, he just doesn't go about it in an efficient way : instead of dual ungil, you need to go 1h+shield, and cap your block chance. then, with lazwhar + rainbowstride you also get >50% spell block chance, and using aegis aurora will provide you with even higher max cold res, and a replenishing ES buffer. on top of that, tempest shield + PCoC will passively generate power charges, for free. that's basically what i'm using (i'm currently still using EK over cold pen, i need to reroll my armor colors), and i can go full retard on any reflect combination without any care in the world. Alright.
Guys, first you must understand that most of things you talk about I already have answered, tested or mentioned sometimes even on multiple occasions in this very thread so it can become cumbersome after some time. About dual gauche build someone's mentioned, I've already given my opinion at page 16;
Spoiler
I've checked up that scion. Double ungil's gauche... his chc must be around 60%. When you attack large group it's not that much noticeable because ST proccs like crazy but on few targets ... I've saw suspiciously long "non crit" series on that videos. So you sacrifice crit, OK, but block isn't that great - you don't maxblock (55%) - we have 29. Nothing drastic and sacrificed much.
Further more with 55% block you can have only 27% spellblock which is nothing spectacular and you give away more chc (stone of lahzwar) Further more I really don't know why he didn't take spell acro - oh wait I do, we can barely afford it and we start way closer. Next thing, he does not have life leech. Ouch. Only true advantage I see is EE, which is too far for us to grab. So he should have more dps, in theory, ofc he critts 30% less then we do, in practice. Overall slightly different approach, imo perhaps not much worse but not better either. Mind you, keeping dual gauches on offhand and stone of lazhwar in inv. to swap out on some bosses might be totally viable tactic but do not, I repeat DO NOT sacrifice acro/spell acro. But then this is not build choice but gear choice. Using them on normal mapping is just slow and unnecessary IMO. Ofc you must not skimp on your defenses. If you have resi capped and nearly 4K of HP, you'll be fine. If you payed your gear 1 c each or you play self found, ofc you will have to re-invent build to make it workable. About IS math - spears first pierces if enemies are close, has high crit chance and high freeze chance, and when it goes slightly more far, it "arms" itself and crits in nearly 90% of chance. I've did calculations but I don't have them any more but it's obvious that it's good spell. Second thing that I must mention is that I don't play PoE anymore. If something has really happened to AB in last month or so, like some crazy buff - then use it by all means. I was never impressed by that spell - too much clutter, it seriously harms FPS, especially in parties, and it damage seems lacking even with conc. effect - not mathematically speaking but in clear speed difference. I wrote about GMP many times. Marginally better DPS, much bigger clutter, parties will hate you. Same single or few target dps - only big difference on big mob groups - when you need it least. If only one missile misses, LMP does more damage. Bigger mana cost. Imo not worth it but if you like it /use it - it's not big difference. Btw Shields are bad solution, were loosing whooping 250+ chc chance for tree - ungil is our shield if we need one, simple as that. EE is simply too far away - whatever you sacrifice from this build - you've lost too much. Auras are not that important to this build - they merely patch our weak spots. About danger to ourselves - whit build as volatile as this it's unrealistic to expect to nullify mentioned problems. Lightning thorns are rare and they last just 2-3 secs, wait it out. Kill reflect one by one mob. It's manageable, just open your eyes and play carefully. We're not tanks. We cannot afford to play recklessly.
