Rhox's basic hardcore 2h marauder build

Thanks for sharing
Thanks a lot for the guide, and the summary! I'm loving marauder so far :D

One question though, are there quests where I should pick a certain reward over the others? Besides the obvious skill gems.
For instance, the 3 bandit quest, I chose the +40 hp reward, are there any others like this? We're starting on act 3.

Thanks in advance!

There is a bandit quest in each difficulty (same quest, different difficulty). If you are using this build, help Oak all three times.

Otherwise, the only thing you have to choose wisely with is quest rewards. This list may help with the choices.
Thanks!

About the skill gems, are there several versions of each, or should I stick with the first one I get so it's as high level as possible?

What do you mean? Several variations of gem choice (ie heavy strike over glacial)? Absolutely, and way too many to list here. If you are wondering about quality, unless you can afford to buy them from the start, just level the first gem you get. Only stop leveling a gem when you either:

a) can't afford the mana cost anymore (shouldn't be a problem when running blood magic)

b) won't be able to use the gem without a piece of gear you are currently wearing. You can ignore this point if you KNOW you will always have those points, but be wary when leveling if you have +stat gear, as it can make you dependent on that piece (even when a clear upgrade is available to you).
I'm lvl 30 and not happy with Glacial Hammer.
It does a lot less dps than Heavy Strike and costs about double mana.
Even if you use the +50% elemental damage from the 3 passives + a elemental damage gem you will still do a lot less dmg to monsters that are cold resistant.
I don't mind knocking back monsters and I haven't seen any loot get stuck in walls yet (possibly a bug that's been fixed) so has anyone tried replacing Glacial Hammer with Heavy Strike?

leather and steal only gives one of the 24%'s if you go iron reflexes, so steel skin is 6% more armor.

Aa, so you mean that IF converts all evasion to armor so Leather and steel would have 0 evasion to increase by 24%?

Seems bit odd and misleading.

This is a kinda old post, but I have yet to see anything newer:

http://www.pathofexile.com/forum/view-thread/46129/page/1

Seems to say that (forgive these calculations, they were from figures in closed beta) evasion is increased by both evasion and armor multipliers, armor is increased by armor multipliers, then both those figures are added together with IR (in essence evasion double dips).

The way I understand that is Leather and Steel will grant you 6% less armor from your armor (pre-evasion conversion), but 48% more armor from your evasion. If this is wrong or outdated, please correct me.

That's how I read it too. So with figurative amounts of
5000 armor
1000 evasion

Steelskin:
5000 * 1.3 + 1000 * 1.3 = 7800

Leather and steel
5000 * 1.24 + 1000 * 1.24 * 1.24 = 7737,6

Let A be armor and E be evasion
1.3A + 1.3E = 1.24A + (1.24*1.24)E | -1.3E -1.24A
1.3A - 1.24A = 1.54E - 1.3E
0.06A = 0.3E | /0.3
0.2A = 1E

1A = 5E
So if you have 5 times more armor than evasion, steel skin is better. I don't know the values of high end build, so someone else can fill in those. (actually 4960 armor per 1000 evasion to be more specific)

Those calculation are wrong, they took away the double dipping for evasion in a patch quite a while ago.

Now it works in a very simple manner.

Armor nodes increase your total armor after the evasion to armor conversion, increasing the total amount of armor you have.

L&S nodes works in the same way, increasing the armor you have after the conversion, not doubling the bonus to evasion.

Simply put, 30% armor increase increases the total amount by 6 percentage units more than a 24% L&S node, making the L&S points wasted incase there is an option to put it in an armor node instead.

As you said, that was the case in open beta but it changed.

One should note however that the +% evasion from having dexterity increases the evasion rating before converting it to armor, so having 100 evasion on a pieces of gear with say 100 dex total, means you have 120 evasion giving 100 armor.

Hence, e.g. 100 evasion>100 armor when found on gear.
