[1.0.2] One-Hand/Shield Lightning Strike Templar
" Reduced mana reservation nodes do work with Tempest Shield - I tried it personally yesterday. But yeah, you might not have enough room for it. Aura builds are always loved by all :P xeroslash - One-Hand/Shield Lightning Strike Templar

I only began playing recently and I'm having trouble deciding what my first character should be. This build (and Templar in general) seems pretty neat, is it beginner friendly?
" This guide is the result of my first character - I started writing this when open beta started. Looking back, there are other newbie-friendly builds that are probably easier to get going, such as Ground Slam Marauder or Freezing Pulse Witch/Shadow. But I did learn a hell of a lot from all of the tweaking I did, and it forced me to learn the mechanics and everything that came with character building (and no, there is still more work to do with this build... and this is just a cookie-cutter build in my eyes!). Although I do have some trees on the first page, be aware that you do have to make some crucial decisions on your own along the way and sometimes, it really comes down to how good your RNG is. But it's okay even if you fail, as long as you realized the reasons, so that you can learn to readjust and do better next time. Well it's either this or that Newbie Friendly Marauder build lol. I'm not really worried about making mistakes though, I learn things pretty fast in these sorts of games.

Just started this build. Level 38 now, act I cruel. Its very easy going and not gear intensive. I like it so far.

" As long as you're willing to learn, I would say that this is a good starting point. Ground Slam marauder is very easy to set up, but it doesn't dive as deep into the mechanics of PoE as other builds do. While this build is pretty cookie-cutter in itself, hopefully throughout your journey with it, learning how Lightning Strike works in detail will definitely open your mind and allow to apply that kind of knowledge to future builds of your own. LS is definitely a good base to learn general skill mechanics from, since it's affected by many factors and variables that aren't immediately apparent. " About halfway through Cruel and beyond, you might have to start keeping tabs on how good your weapon is. Ideally, by Act 3 of Merciless, you would have yourself a weapon with ~250 physical DPS to have a decent amount of damage. This is calculated by (min damage + max damage)/2) * attack speed. xeroslash - One-Hand/Shield Lightning Strike Templar

Should i take iron grip in the way to duelist tree? or more later?
" You can save Iron Grip for later; I would get it after breaking ~400 strength, give or take. xeroslash - One-Hand/Shield Lightning Strike Templar
